STEWARDS’ REPORT
Queensland Principal Club - Downs & South West Region

TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB
18TH SEPTEMBER 1999

STEWARD IN CHARGE : J Childs
STEWARDS : A Jones, L Carvosso, L Wheeldon, D Hooper

Weather: Track: Good Rail: 3 Metres

RACE: 1. Our Gold Man (G Lynch) jumped outwards making contact with No Intention (T Hill). Near the 450 metres Aussie Morning (K Banks) was steadied when Chief Of Dreams (R Goltz) rolled in momentarily. Pedro Is Dancing (D Green) laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. No Intention returned to scale with blood in its mouth. Time off 4.38 PM.

RACE: 2. Duranch (G Whybrow) was slowly away. Trainer J Blunsdon was advised a warning was being placed on the gelding. Aunty Marg (G Lynch) jumped inward making contact with the gate. Approaching the 800 metres Real Dancer (M Gray) which shifted in was eased from the heels of O’Hayley (D Green). On the home turn Sharantan Lass (L Deguara) shifted out forcing Real Dancer and Midnight Emblem (S Shield) wide. Approaching the finish Aunty Marg was steadied when crowded for room by Golden Zena (W Clasohm) which shifted in. On returning to scale Jockey W Clasohm rider of the 5th horse lodged an objection against Duranch (G Whybrow) being declared 3rd for alleged grounds of interference near the 500 metres. After hearing evidence from Connections, Riders and viewing of the patrol film, Stewards dismissed the objection, as they were of the opinion that Jockey G Whybrow was not completely responsible for the incident. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that approaching the 500 metres Sharantan Lass (L Deguara) when being eased from the heels of Aunty Marg shifted out abruptly and onto the heels of O’Hayley. Sharantan Lass then shifted back in taking Duranch in onto Golden Zena, which struck the running rail. Stewards took no action as they were of the belief that a major portion of the incident was due to Sharantan Lass over-reacting when being eased. Time off 5.19 PM.

RACE: 3. Rocky Colours was inspected by the Vet when arriving on course and was subsequently cleared to start. At the start Rocky Colours (R Barone), Tempting Touch (M Dorrington) and Rotella (K Waller) were all hampered between Lucky Love (L Deguara) which jumped inwards and Rising Currency (A Pattillo) which shifted out shortly after the start. L’Abri (G Geran) when being steadied got it’s head up and raced ungenerously in the early stages. Near the 800 metres Always Gold (G Lynch) was steadied when momentarily crowded by L’Abri. In the early stages of the home straight Rotella (K Waller) which was attempting a tight run between Rising Currency and Rocky Colours made contact with the hindquarters of Rising Currency when both horses shifted ground. Near the 250 metres L’Abri shifted in making minor contact with Sendeve (D Green). Always Gold returned to scale with blood in it’s mouth. Time off 5.55 PM.

RACE: 4. R Goltz (Strongarm) replaced Jockey B Swanton who failed to arrive on course by the required time. B Swanton was subsequently fined the sum of $50. Straight Wilder (T Hill) was slowly away. Bay Choice (M Dorrington) and Narwong (D Green) which was inclined to lay in made contact on a number of occasions in the early stages. Strongarm was inclined to lay in in the early stages. Narwong drifted in over the concluding stages. Time off 6.35 PM.

RACE: 5. M Dorrington (Wild Girl) replaced Jockey N Day who was indisposed. At the start Love Champagne (S Katsidis) and New Goldmine (G Geran) were hampered between Miss Harvey (K Banks) which jumped outwards and Clare’s Chance (A Pattillo) which jumped inwards. Frequently (L Deguara) which jumped awkwardly raced greenly in the early stages. Approaching the 800 metres Tong’s Routine (M Gray) was eased from the heels of Sendette, which was eased from the heels of Tick Tick (G Lynch) when the pace slowed. Miss Harvey, which was racing greenly, got its head up approaching the 800 metres and brushed the running rail near the 700 metres. Near the 550 metres Fish For Tea (S Shield) was steadied when crowded for room by Sendette that was taken in marginally by Pro Paree (R Barone). Leaving the 400 metres Fish For Tea was eased when attempting a tight run to the inside of Sendette. Shortly after Fish For Tea was eased from the heels of the tiring Tick Tick. Approaching the home turn New Goldmine was held up for clear running and was eased from the heels of Tick Tick approaching the 250 metres. Tick Tick, which returned to scale with blood in both nostrils, was barred from racing for the mandatory period of 3 months. Time off 7.15 PM.

RACE: 6. At the start Legion Of Honour (S Shield) jumped outwards coming into heavy contact with the hindquarters of Send A Rocket (K Banks). Leaving the 1100 metres Brave Mac (K Waller) got it’s head up when being eased from the heels of Miss Minor (R Goltz) which was pulling hard. Approaching the home turn Bonnie Sal (S Katsidis) was steadied when Legion Of Honour shifted out. Toot Toot (A Pattillo) which shifted in, in the early stages of the home straight, shifted out and across the running of Send A Rocket approaching the 200 metres. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Miss Minor, Jockey R Goltz stated that the mare completely over-raced in the early and middle stages and once placed under pressure approaching the home turn the mare weakened badly, explanation noted. A subsequent Veterinary inspection of the mare failed to reveal any apparent abnormality. Time off 7.55 PM.

RACE: 7. Paringa Miss (B Swanton) was slowly away. Shore As All (R Barone) made the 1300 metre turn wide. Leaving the 800 metres Bold Pierre (R Goltz) shifted out making contact with Karen’s Way (C Maund). Audrey Ann (M Dorrington) shifted in and brushed the running rail near the 550 metres. Approaching the home turn Riotchee (G Geran) was steadied when disappointed for a run. In the early stages of the home straight Jet Soon (G Lynch) was held up for some distance when attempting to take a tight run to the inside of Paringa Miss. Approaching the 200 metres Audrey Ann that was taken in marginally by Chief Surgeon (D Green), made minor contact with Bold Pierre. Time off 8.35 PM.
