STEWARDS’ REPORT
Queensland Principal Club - Downs & South West Region
TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB
8TH April 2000

STEWARD IN CHARGE : J Childs
STEWARDS : W Booshand, R Doyle, L Wheeldon

Weather: Fine Track: Good Rail: 5 Metres

RACE: 1. Grand Aspect (B Appo) which reared high in the stalls was slowly away and shifted out shortly after coming into contact with Ponderosa Girl (L Karklis) which was slowly away. Tzarist (R Goltz) jumped awkwardly. Awedad (K Mahoney) and Cool Lou (A Parramore) made contact shortly after the start. Near the 850 metres Awedad made contact with the running rail when taken in by Cool Lou which was taken in by Girl’s Expense (D Green) which shifted in and away from High Spot (J Baker) when momentarily crowded for room. Tzarist, which was following, got its head up when being eased. High Spot was inclined to race ungenerously in the middle stages. Approaching the home turn Awedad was steadied from the heels of Cool Lou. Leaving the 100 metres Cool Lou shifted in and brushed Watty’s Request (K Banks). Walk In Time (L McCoy) shifted out over the concluding stages. The Surcingle on Grand Aspect broke during running. Time off 4.33 PM.

RACE: 2. Trainer D Strong was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare the rider for Photism by the required time. Stewards accepted Jockey M Privato’s explanation why he failed to arrive on course by the required time. Apprentice K Banks (Good Guy) was the replacement rider as there was no senior rider available. At the start Galaxy Defender (L Karklis) was hampered between Saw A Devil (K Mahoney) and He’s All Ours (B Appo) which jumped in. Goyahkla (S Apthorpe) which was slowly away raced greenly throughout, shifting in at the 700 metres coming into contact with the running rail. Angie’s Special (L Deguara) which was reluctant to load hung out throughout forcing Saw A Devil (K Mahoney) wide in the middle stages. Trainer H Lucas was advised a warning was being placed on the filly. Late Model Dancer and Ceres (L McCoy) both jumped awkwardly. Approaching the 800 metres Tollgate (G Lynch) shifted in and away from Photism (M Dorrington). Approaching the 800 metres Galaxy Defender was steadied from the heels of Saw A Devil, which was taken out by Angie’s Special. Solstar (A Parramore) which hung in throughout brushed the running rail near the 700 metres. Trainer A Doyle was advised that a warning was being placed on the filly. Tollgate returned to scale with blood in its mouth. Time off 5.14 PM.

RACE: 3. The Stablehand of Semi Jewel sustained a minor injury in the parade when struck in the face by Semi Jewel. Karrie Dale (D Green) jumped awkwardly. Embellish (L Karklis) which jumped in made the crossing awkwardly. Leaving the 850 metres Semi Jewel (J Baker) got its head up for some distance. On returning to scale Jockey A Pattillo rider of the third horse The Apache Kid lodged an objection against Sea Opal (A Parramore) being declared the winner for alleged grounds of interference approaching the 200 metres. After taking evidence from riders, connections and viewing of the patrol film. Stewards dismissed the protest as they were content that the incident had not cost The Apache Kid the margin that was between both at the finish. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey A Parramore was found guilty of a careless riding charge in that approaching the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Golden Vista (K Mahoney) causing that horse to be taken in and making heavy contact with the hindquarters of The Apache Kid, resulting in The Apache Kid being severely hampered and Golden Vista being severely checked and almost dislodging its rider. A Parramore was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 meetings to take effect from mid-night 8/04/00 and to expire mid-night 22/04/00. Time off 5.55 PM.

RACE: 4. Golden Blade (P Clarke) was slowly away. Red Heavy (R Goltz) was steadied approaching the finish when Paddy Dapper (K Mahoney) drifted out under pressure. Time off 6.35 PM.

RACE: 5. Our Proud Tiger (R Goltz) jumped out and across the running of Pure Trade (D Tarrant) which was slowly away. He’s A Lulu (L McCoy) and Mulkuddi (J Warrington) were slowly away. Leaving the 850 metres Binary (K Banks) over-raced for some distance. Approaching the 800 metres Blazing Alex (K Mahoney) was eased from the heels of Strong Ace (M Dorrington) which was eased from the heels of Miss Excelsior (A Parramore) when the pace slowed. Strong Ace then raced keenly for some distance. Blazing Alex after being eased got its head up and pulled fiercely for some distance giving his rider a difficult ride. Trainer M Currie was advised that a warning was being placed on the gelding. On the home turn Sophie’s Gold (G Lynch) shifted out forcing Binary, Blazing Alex, Pure Trade and Our Proud Tiger wider on the track. Binary, which returned to the parade yard with blood in both nostrils, will now be barred from racing in Australia for life, as this is the gelding’s second offence. Jockey L Francis reported that Imagica was reluctant to race on the inside of Mulkuddi in the middle stages. Time off 7.15 PM.

RACE: 6. Macaroney (G Geran), Light Of Terowie (M Privato) and Nastasi (N Tomizawa) were slowly away. Nastasi, which raced greenly throughout, shifted in near the 450 metres momentarily crowding Light Of Terowie. Shortly after Nastasi shifted out abruptly. Near the 300 metres Macaroney shifted out forcing Jon Paul (K Mahoney) and Nastasi wider on the track. Near the 200 metres Seaco (K Waller) shifted out and brushed Queen Of The Congo (L McCoy). Jockey G Geran accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 250 metres. Apprentice N Tomizawa was reprimanded for not weighing in 5th. Time off 7.55 PM.

RACE: 7. The start was delayed due to Shy On Manners pulling a plate. Approaching the 850 metres Touch Of Sanity (K Mahoney) which shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of Eagle High (M Dorrington) made contact with Make A Mark (J Baker). Approaching the home turn Shy On Manners (D Green) rolled in momentarily crowding Sharantan Lass (L Deguara). Shortly after Double Demon (D Hutchins) was eased when Shy On Manners shifted out. Touch Of Sanity, which raced greenly throughout, made the home turn wide and then laid in over the concluding stages. Time off 8.39 PM.
