Trainer P Nolan stated that he and his son P A Nolan saddled the horse and were satisfied that the saddle was tight and the gear was in order. Stewards advised Mr. Nolan that the obvious reason that the girth came away from the girth strap was that the tongue of the buckle was not completely in the hole on the girth strap. Stewards reprimanded Mr. Nolan for negligence and made Mr. Nolan aware that there could have been a serious accident if the saddle had slipped. When considering the penalty Stewards took into account Mr. Nolan’s excellent record and how thorough Mr. Nolan is when saddling a horse. Time off4.57 PM.

In the early stages of the home straight Alto Lad was taken in by Valdis. When questioned about the disappointing performance of Mr. Dickens.
