RACE 1: JUST GUS (A. Parramore) fractious, slow away. PRINCE RAUTAI (J. Warrington) jumped awkwardly lost ground, laid in first 50m of the race. Approaching the 800m CORNWALL BAY (A. Gould) laid in crowding CABALISTIC (A. Lane) which in turn crowded to PRINCE RAUTAI. Rounding the home turn PRINCE RAUTAI shifted out coming into contact with CORNWALL BAY. PRINCE RAUTAI held up for run in straight. STAGE (R. Goltz) inclined to lay in down straight. Time off 4.14 p.m.
RACE 2: OCEAN BOY (J. Warrington) struck the gate on leaving the parade yard inspected by veterinary officer passed fit to take its place in the field, dismounted to load. TENTPEGGER (B. Swanton), HELEN’S HONEY (P. Wolfgram) and OCEAN BOY all fractious in the stalls. OCEAN BOY jumped awkwardly. SEA LEGEND (A. Parramore) brushed the running rail near the 800m, raced greenly thereafter. Approaching the home turn OCEAN BOY rolled out, shifted back in forcing MALLAMI (K. Yoshida) to ease from its heels. Rounding the home turn SOUTHERN DAUGHTER (S. Shield) inclined to hang out, eased from the heels of HELEN’S HONEY. Time off 5.51 p.m.
RACE 3: SHIGERU OSAMA (R. Goltz) reluctant to load, restless. TOUCH OF SANITY (B. Swanton) jumped out causing general crowding to GREAT EXPECTATIONS (A. Parramore) and CHANTAL PARK (D. Craven). Approaching the 1250m TOUCH OF SANITY shifted out resulting in GREAT EXPECTATIONS being steadied. Nearing the 900m GOLD HEART (S. Shield) was hampered when MISTER SQUEALER (J. Warrington) shifted in away from the heels of PITTERAC (P. Wolfgram). CHANTAL PARK raced keenly along the back section of the track. Leaving the 750m TOUCH OF SANITY eased from the heels of CHANTAL PARK. Time off 5.26 p.m.
Following several heavy showers of rain Steward’s downgraded the track to dead at 5.35 p.m.
RACE 4: CIRCUS BOY (R. Morris) dwelt. ZANGIEF (R. Kerwin) and FLYING TANN (R. Pittman) slow away. HELLIE MISSED (K. Yoshida) jumped in the air. ZANGIEF raced fiercely in the early stages, shifted in nearing the 1100m resulting in CIRCUS BOY having to be steadied. COLOUR MY WORLD (P. Wolfgram) hung out throughout, shifted out nearing the 950m making contact with FLYING TANN which got its head up in the air. Nearing the 800m COLOUR MY WORLD shifted out again making contact with FLYING TANN then rolled back hampering PISANI BAY and CIRCUS BOY. Approaching the home turn MILLICENT (A. Lane) shifted out hampering FLYING TANN. FLYING TANN forced to race wide throughout. Time off 6.05 p.m.
RACE 5: JUST SENSATIONAL (D. Craven) restless. POVERTY ROAD (A. Lane) fractious, jumped awkwardly, lost ground. TYRANT (L. Karklis) slow away. HOT PROMISE (A. Parramore) jumped awkwardly and out, lost ground. RINGELING (G. Geran) hung out throughout making the 1500m crossing awkwardly. Approaching the 1300m RINGELING rolled back inwards hampering POVERTY ROAD. Leaving the 900m POVERTY ROAD whilst pulling hard shifted out to a three wide position and nearing the 800m shifted in crowding SEA MIRAGE (R. Goltz) which in turn caused TYRANT to ease. Time off 6.37 p.m.
RACE 6: VITAL SIGN (K. Yoshida) jumped in striking the upright, lost ground. MICHAEL’S CUE BID (A. Lane) dwelt, lost ground. SAM’S A NUISANCE (C. Kearney) restless, slow to jump, made the crossing awkwardly, got his head up and raced ungenerously for some distance. VITAL SIGN raced awkwardly nearing the 600m shifting out. Approaching the home turn MAKE A MARK (N. Spencer) shifted out coming into contact with RULE ‘N’ REIGN (P. Wolfgram). From approx the 300m RULE ‘N’ REIGN inclined to hang in coming into contact with ROYALE ETOILE (J. Warrington). K Yoshida returned to scale with an injury to his right foot examined by club Doctor. Time off 7.12 p.m.
RACE 7: Tnr G. Henderson requested permission to scratch SIR SAHIB due to the DEAD conditions of the track. Request granted and withdrawn at 6.47 p.m. with tnr Henderson being advised of a DEAD or worse track ban. Jockey D. Craven reported ill stood down by club Doctor, replaced by C. Kearney (UNION BOY). HE’S ALL OURS (L. Morrison) difficult to load causing lengthy delay, tnr J. Evans advised gelding to attend jump-outs prior to next racing. LORD KILLOWEN (A. Parramore) fractious. UNION BOY (C. Kearney) and SLIGO PRINCESS (S. Apthorpe) slow away. VIVID EDGE (R. Morris) reared as the gates opened, lost ground. FLYING FOX (R. Hancock) jumped out coming into contact with LORD KILLOWEN. Approaching the 800m NO MATTER WHAT (S. Shield) moved out and at the same time BOWEN SPECIAL (M. Smith-Lester) moved in slightly resulting in ARGENTIC (J. Warrington) being tightened and steadied. ARGANAUTIKA (P. Gesler) unable to secure a clear passage from approx the 400m to approx the 200m. Jockey A. Parramore reprimanded for striking his mount in the head region whilst in the barrier. Time off 7.56 p.m.
ADDENDUM: Stewards accepted explanation of tnr L. Erhart for the reason that his apprentice Michelle Allen failed to fulfill her engagement on MIDNIGHT EMBLEM at the Toowoomba meeting on January 6, 2001.
