STEWARDS: J Childs (Chairman), R Doyle, P Reardon, L Wheeldon, D Wann

Weather: Fine Track: Good Rail: 1 Metre

Jockey L Deguara who was indisposed was replaced by: C Small (Cambio), A Parramore (Loop The Loup).

RACE: 1. Bad Company jumped awkwardly. Leaving the straight on the first occasion Bad Company (D Green) whilst over racing got its head in the air and shifted in tightening the running of Dai Ran resulting in Dai Ran making contact with the running rail and blundering when striking the heels of Bad Company. Stewards were satisfied that no blame could be placed on D. Green. Tnr R. Lipp advised that a warning is being placed on Bad Company. Leaving the 1600m Fiery Aspect got its head up for some distance whilst over – racing. Approaching the 400m Shecky’s Pride and Hey Banjo were momentarily crowded for room by Tercel which rolled in. Touch Of Sanity which was following had to be eased. Over the concluding stages Touch Of Sanity was eased when tightened for room between Dai Ran (K Yoshida) which shifted out and Shecky’s Pride (B Swanton) which shifted in. K. Yoshida and B. Swanton were advised of their responsibilities when their mounts are shifting ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Bad company. Jockey D Green stated that his mount pulled extremely hard in the early and middle and was a beaten horse at the 600m. explanation noted. A subsequent Veterinary inspection failed to reveal any abnormalities. Time off 4.04 p.m.

RACE: 2. Tears Of Gold jumped out coming into contact with Peroxide, which jumped in the air.
John Paul, which jumped awkwardly, was crowded for room shortly after. Leaving the 1400m Peroxide got its head up and raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages, making the 1300m corner awkwardly. Kindilan, which was racing keenly, hung out on the 1300m corner. Finger Snapper which was slowly away, laid in under pressure in the home straight. Leaving the 400m Mere Words which was held up for clear running had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight and over the concluding stages. Approaching the 500m Adaway was eased from the heels of Tears Of Gold. Adaway which was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight shifted out leaving the 200m to obtain clear running, resulting in Tears Of Gold being steadied. At the 200m Cambio appeared to resent being hit with the whip. Time off 4.45 p.m.

RACE: 3. Turf Tiger, which jumped awkwardly made contact with the hindquarters of Noble Jewels. Jaded and Sophie’s Gold made contact on jumping. Kaoru Queen was slowly away. Near the 850m Sophies’s Gold was steadied from the heels of Jaded, which shifted out marginally. Sophie’s Gold which was forced to race wide throughout, weakened badly in the home straight. A subsequent Veterinary inspection of Sophie’s Gold failed to reveal any abnormalities. She’s A Taan was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn. Time off 5.20 p.m.

RACE: 4. Delay to High Spot leaving the parade yard due to having a plate refitted. Rocklea Rocket, which jumped awkwardly, lost ground. Roman God, which hung out from the 550m, forced Yukmarr very wide on the home turn and down the home straight. Time off 5.55 p.m.


RACE: 5. Chantal Park and Watsford’s Gold both slowly away. Leaving the 950m Red Wasp which got its head up whilst being eased raced ungenerously for some distance. Remettre, which was racing behind Red Wasp, had to be eased from the heels of that horse near the 850m. Near the 550m Red Wasp was steadied from the heels of Hi Zurf which dipped and shifted out. On the home turn Nictom shifted out and made contact with Watsford’s Gold, resulting in Watsford’s Gold, Hi Zurf and Red Wasp being forced wider on the track. Leaving the 400m Red Wasp was eased from the heels of Hi Zurf, which shifted out. Jockey A. Parramore (Nictom) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in approaching the 100m crowding the running of Game Set Match (H. Akiyama) resulting in that horse having to be eased. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Hi Zurf jockey R. Goltz stated his mount traveled well until placed under pressure rounding the home turn at which time his mount failed to respond. Explanation noted. A subsequent veterinary inspection of Hi Zurf failed to reveal any abnormality. Tnr M. Flanigan pleaded guilty of a breach of AR140A in that he presented Remettre and Notify Nick to the parade yard with the incorrect saddles on both. Trainer M Flanigan was fined the sum of $500. Jockey S. Shield who sustained bruising to his right foot when his mount stood on him whilst unsaddling was stood down by the doctor for the remainder of the day. Time off 6.30 p.m.

RACE: 6. Dippermouth which was injured at the stable complex was withdrawn by Stewards at 5.08 p.m. At the start Classy Belle and Sicalou were hampered between Half Flush which jumped out and Ivory Tattoo which jumped in. All Crafty was slowly away. At the 950m Comet Way shifted in and made contact with Son Of Rossi. Comet Way then raced keenly for some distance. Woodie’s Mate raced greenly throughout. Son Of Rossi, which was taken in marginally by Comet Way, tightened the running of Celestial Light leaving the 400m. Near the 200m Sicalou was eased when attempting a tight run to the inside of Celestial Light. Time off 7.05 p.m.

RACE: 7. Jockey S. Shield replaced by B. Carne (Dalveen Dancer). Vaniant jumped in and across the running of Fast Al, which was slowly away. Dalveen Dancer jumped awkwardly. Simoncello was slowly away. S. Apthorpe (Fast Al) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out coming into heavy contact with Simoncello leaving the 400m. On the home turn Dunbar shifted out making contact with De Champs. Near the 200m Macedon Affairs (R. Goltz) which shifted out to obtain clear running made heavy contact with De Champs. R. Goltz was reminded of his responsibilities when shifting ground. Time off 7.40 p.m.

All winners were swabbed.

1/05/01: Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reason Apprentice H Akiyama was dislodged from Lough Donnasea during the running of the Maiden Handicap at Toowoomba on 28/04/01.

After hearing evidence from Riders W Orbell and J Warrington and further evidence from Apprentice N Evans and Trainer G Cross. N Evans was found guilty of a careless riding charge in that on the point of the home turn he permitted his mount Roaring Fork to shift out when insufficiently clear of Lough Donnasea ridden by H Akiyama, resulting in H Akiyama being dislodged when his mount clipped the heels of Roaring Fork and dipped. N Evans was suspended from riding in races for a period of 3 weeks to take affect as of mid - night 6/05/01 and to expire at mid - night 27/05/01.

When considering the penalty Stewards took into account N Evans' record and that Lough Donnasea did not fall.

1/05/01: Stablehand Nathan Cameron pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct in that at the tie up stalls at the Toowoomba race meeting on 28/04/01 whilst using obscene language he punched Lough Donnasea in the vicinity of the mouth in full view of the public. Mr. N Cameron was fined the sum of $250. Stewards subsequently suspended the fine for a period of 12 months in terms of Local Rule 36 (H).
