RACE 1: J J RICHARDS & SONS PTY LTD CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000M.
Stewards granted permission for H. Hamada (SILVER CENTUZA) to claim only 1kg of his allowance, as it was a late pick-up ride.
RARE PROSPECT jumped out coming into heavy contact with PRINCESS ALEAH.
At the start MISSONI was steadied when crowded for room between SILVER CENTUZA and TILKE OF WALES, which jumped out.
Shortly after the start GALLAGHER was eased when tightened for room between STRATIFICATION and TILKE OF WALES (M. Sano) which shifted in. M. Sano was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear.
Shortly after the start LIGHTNING BROWN and LUCKY D’OR were steadied when crowded for room between WESTERN SPARKLE and RULE BY RIGHT which shifted in.
Leaving the 800m LIGHTNING BROWN was steadied from the heels of STRATIFICATION, which shifted in.
Leaving the 500m RARE PROSPECT was eased from the heels of CARBON FURY, which lost ground.
SILVER CENTUZA raced wide in the early and middle stages.
GALLAGHER and PRINCE PERCY raced wide throughout.
H Hamada (SILVER CENTUZZA) dropped his whip in the home straight.
When questioned about the disappointing performance of PRINCESS ALEAH, jockey J. Sharp stated the filly did not travel well at any stages and appeared to be sore in front, explanation noted. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the filly was showing signs of soreness in both fore legs. Trainer B Baldwin was advised that a veterinary certificate is required for PRINCESS ALEAH prior to her next start.
Stewards inquired into the reason CARBON FURY lost ground leaving the 500m when it struck the running rail and blundered. After taking evidence from J Warrington (RULE BY RIGHT), K Banks (LUCKY D’OR) and J McKinnon (CARBON FURY) it was established that leaving the 500m TILKE OF WALES, which shifted in and RULE BY RIGHT, which shifted out marginally came into minor contact, which resulted in RULE BY RIGHT getting its head up and losing ground whilst being steadied. K Banks the rider of LUCKY D’OR, who was racing behind RULE BY RIGHT, shifted in to avoid the heels of that horse and in doing so her mount shifted in very abruptly tightening CARBON FURY onto the running rail. Stewards subsequently gave K Banks the benefit of a reasonable doubt as stewards took into account that RULE BY RIGHT did lose ground and that LUCKY D’OR did shift in very abruptly when the rider attempted to avoid the heels of RULE BY RIGHT.
Time off 3.58 PM.
RACE 2: 93.7 FM MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
THIS ONE WON lost ground when it jumped awkwardly and out coming into contact with the hindquarters of CRAZY MAIZY.
FRAAREVA jumped away awkwardly.
BIG RIVER BURNING jumped with its head in the air.
FLYING NURSE, which laid out once placed under pressure in the home straight, shifted out leaving the 100m hampering FRAAREVA.
CRAZY MAIZY and FRAAREVA raced wide throughout.
When questioned why THIS ONE WON got so far back in the early stages jockey J Warrington stated that his mount failed to handle the track conditions, explanation noted. A subsequent veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormality.
Time off 4.37 PM.
RACE 3: CRACKER PRINT AND PAPER PTY LTD CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200M.
Jockey C Spry was fined the sum of $50 for accepting the ride on both JESTER’S DANCE and CALIFORNIA BELLE. G Lynch was the replacement rider for CALIFORNIA BELLE.
The start was delayed as WINNUNGA had to be re-saddled.
Near the 100m BACKHAND was eased when crowded for room between CANADIAN BLUE and CASTLE KLAIRE, which shifted in whilst lying in.
WINNUNGA pulled hard in the early and middle stages.
P Carroll (WINNUNGA) dropped his whip in the home straight.
When questioned about the improved performance of CALIFORNIA BELLE trainer W Abbey stated he has only had the mare for 6 weeks and this is the first start for him. Mr Abbey also stated that the mare had been working well but he thought the 1200m would be too short for the mare. Mr Abbey further stated that the stable support for the mare was minimal, explanations noted.
Stewards inquired into the reason ROSE OF KWILA was severely checked near the 250m when making heavy contact with the running rail. After taking evidence from riders J McKinnon (YOUR LION EYES), N Tomizawa (CALHOUN), A Parramore (ROSE OF KWILA) and viewing of the patrol films. Stewards ruled that ROSE OF KWILA, whilst taking a very tight run to the inside of CALHOUN had made contact with the hindquarters of that horse, which turned CALHOUN inwards causing ROSE OF KWILA to make heavy contact with the running rail.
A Parramore, who struck his right foot on the running rail, was cleared by the ambulance officer to fulfil his engagement in race 4.
Time off 5.17 PM.
RACE 4: QRSE CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1300M.
JOEKEN pulled hard in the early stages.
ULTRA MODERN was taken in by HOUSE OF WOODWIND (A Parramore), which shifted in under pressure leaving the 200m. A Parramore was reminded of his obligations when his mount is shifting ground.
Time off 5.52 PM.
RACE 5: QRSE CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1600M.
Due to lack of communication C Spry was declared on both PAY ME and BRIGHT BOY. M Dorrington was the replacement rider for BRIGHT BOY.
L Karklis (TENNESSEE JOHN) replaced A Parramore who was stood down after riding in the previous event.
On returning to scale C Spry the rider of the 4th horse PAY ME lodged and objection against CLANG EDITION (K Banks) being declared 3rd for alleged interference near the 250m and against GRAND COLOURS (J Warrington) being declared 2nd for alleged interference near the 100m. After hearing evidence from riders, connections and viewing of the patrol film stewards dismissed both objections as they were of the opinion that near the 250m PAY ME was only momentarily crowded for room by CLANG EDITION, which shifted out and near the 100m although PAY ME was eased when tightened for room by GRAND COLOURS, stewards were of the opinion, at that stage it did not appear that PAY ME was going to finish in front of GRAND COLOURS.
GRAND COLOURS, SPECIAL CROWN and TENNESSEE JOHN were slowly away.
Shortly after the start BAILIFF lost ground when tightened for room between SUPREME APPEAL and RULING DANE, which was taken in by CLARENDON BLUE, which jumped in.
BRIGHT BOY was held up for clear running from the 550m until the early stages of the home straight.
CLANG EDITION was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
When questioned about the improved performance of FUHRMILLION, trainer T Catip stated that racing the mare in blinkers today, a drop in class and the 3kg allowance for S Drake was the reason for the improvement, explanations noted.
J Warrington pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge in that near the 100m he permitted his mount GRAND COLOURS to shift in under hard riding when insufficiently clear of PAY ME resulting in PAY ME having to be eased when tightened for room between CLANG EDITION and GRAND COLOURS. J Warrington was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 meetings as of mid-night 25-06-05 and to expire at mid-night 8-07-05. When considering the penalty stewards took into account the guilty plea of J Warrington.
Time off 6.27 PM.
RACE 6: AMALGAMATED PEST CONTROL MAIDEN H'CAP – 1600M.
P Spry (TENABLE) replaced A Parramore.
At the start SHAREEF, HOO HOOKS and MISS BOONARA were all hampered by YOU ARE HOLY, which jumped out.
TENABLE blundered making the crossing.
Near the 1300m CURRENCY ROSE was eased when crowded for room by MASTER STIRLING, which shifted in.
BRIZANE hung out from the 500m.
HOPESON (S Richardson), which shifted in once placed under pressure in the home straight, came into contact with the hindquarters of MASTER STIRLING near the 100m. S Richardson was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount when it was shifting ground.
HOO HOOKS shifted in once placed under pressure in the home straight.
Jockey M Dorrington and apprentice S Drake were each fined the sum of $50 for sending out the incorrect saddlecloth number.
