When questioned about the disappointing performance of MAD MOUSE, jockey A Parramore stated he rode the mare in the same manner in the early stages as when he was successful on her at her last start. A Parramore further stated he was disappointed by the performance of the mare. Trainer L Paton stated the only excuse she could offer is the mare has not taken the step up from maiden class to class 1. Mrs Paton gave stewards an undertaking to report if any abnormality appears with the mare on returning to her stable complex, explanation noted

When question about the improved performance of GOWHEN, jockey R Goltz stated at his previous start the gelding was caught wide throughout and on the home turn was obliged to ease from the heels of another runner which shifted out, from that point the gelding weakened. R Goltz further stated he does ride GOWHEN in track work and the gelding has improved out of sight since his previous run a fortnight ago. Mr Hatch stated the gelding was having his first start for him at the Toowoomba meeting on May 13, 2006 which was the gelding’s first run for a period of 2 months. Mr Hatch also stated at that meeting he did give the gelding a good chance of winning but after being caught wide throughout he failed to run on in the home straight. Mr Hatch further stated that since that run GOWHEN has improved out of sight in his track work and he gave the gelding a good chance tonight taking into account his track work and the class of the field. Mr Hatch said stable support for the gelding was minimal. Stewards advised L Hatch and R Goltz that the film of the race from the gelding’s previous run did support what they had both stated. Stewards further advised both their explanations will be noted and Mr Hatch was made aware of the requirements of a consistent performance from his horses. Stewards also advised Mr Hatch GOWHEN’S future runs will monitored.

Jockey K Yoshida was reprimanded for failing to obtain permission to leave the jockey’s room.
