SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS

As A. Taylor was injured and A. Merritt absent due to personal reasons, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

L. Morrison was examined by the club’s doctor prior to riding and stood down from her engagements today, and riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet

RACE 1: VB 3yo & Upwards Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Sound Strategy 2nd – Arabia Fox 3rd – Brave Bid 4th - Jenn

The start was delayed after NOTABLE CRUYFF broke through the barriers, dislodging C. Eaton, who was not injured. The horse was quickly restrained, examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

BRAVE BID (M. Rice) was slow to begin.

NOTABLE CRUYFF (C. Eaton), JENN (R. Goltz) and ORANGE FERRARI (K. Yoshida) all jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 800m, NOTABLE CRUYFF had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of SOUND STRATEGY (P. Wolfgram).

MASTER NICK (J. McKinnon), which was racing greenly near the 700m, had to be momentarily steadied when tightened for room by ORANGE FERRARI, which was inclined to hang in. MASTER NICK raced greenly for the remainder of the event.


Near the 200m, NOTABLE CRUYFF had to be steadied off the heels of BRAVE BID (M. Rice).

ORANGE FERRARI and MASTER NICK raced wide throughout.

A post race veterinary examination of ORANGE FERRARI failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Jockey K. Yoshida, rider of ORANGE FERRARI, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR83(a) in that he did misconduct himself by way of kicking ORANGE FERRARI in the girth region in the saddling enclosure following race 1. K. Yoshida was fined the sum of $500.


RACE 2: VB 3yo & Upwards (2nd Div) Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Stipulation 2nd – Telesto’s Gem 3rd – Fatcho 4th – Thick As Thieves

Trainer R. Maund was fined $100 for failing to declare M. Price as the rider of ORPEN WYN and C. Spry as the rider of MORESKA (Race 3) by the prescribed time.

MAGIC RIDE (K. Banks), which broke through the barriers, was quickly restrained, examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

MISS NAMIBIA (N. Summers) was slow to begin.

POSTER GIRL (Z. Landry) stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground.

ORPEN WYN (M. Price) ran wide rounding the home turn.

Approaching the 450m, FATCHO (S. Long) blundered and had to be steadied.

Passing the 700m, MISS NAMIBIA (N. Summers) improved to the inside of TELESTO’S GEM (M. Rice) where there was doubtful room and had to be steadied.

Near the 550m, RIGHT TONIC (J. Pujolas) had to be steadied when tightened for room by STIPULATION (P. Wolfgram), which laid in and away from MAGIC RIDE (K. Banks), which was taken in slightly by ORPEN WYN (M. Price). Both P. Wolfgram, rider of STIPULATION, and M. Price, rider of ORPEN WYN, were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Stewards also advised J. Pujolas, rider of RIGHT TONIC, that her standard of evidence throughout the inquiry was below what was expected of a provincial jockey.

Shortly after straightening, TELESTO’S GEM (M. Rice) had some difficulty obtaining clear running.

A post race veterinary examination of ORPEN WYN failed to reveal any abnormalities.



RACE 3: Carlton Mid QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1000m
1st - Crypt 2nd – Cat Dazzle 3rd – Lucky Encounter 4th - Boscobabe

Trainer D. Duke was fined $100 for presenting DIRTY HARRIET to the enclosure with incorrect gear.

JOEY’S PRIDE (M. Price), DIRTY HARRIET (J. McKinnon) and ROCK AWAY THE DAYS (R. Goltz) were slow to begin.

MORESKA (C. Spry) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 800m, JOEY’S PRIDE hung out across the heels of CHRISTMAS MORN (B. El-Issa) and had to be steadied. In this incident, LUCKY ENCOUNTER (S. Katsidis) was also hampered.

MORESKA and BOSCOBABE raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned jockey J. McKinnon regarding his handling of DIRTY HARRIET, especially after passing the 600m until the winning post. J. McKinnon stated that his instructions were to jump the horse out and have it positioned up near the lead, however DIRTY HARRIET did not begin well and he was obliged to take up a rearward position. He further added that, in his opinion, the horse raced ungenerously from near the 700m but that when he applied some pressure near that point the filly failed to respond to his riding. He further added that he placed DIRTY HARRIET under pressure shortly after straightening however believed that the horse was still racing ungenerously and might have shifted out abruptly if further tested with the whip. Trainer D. Duke confirmed the instructions however added that the horse had a tendency to race erratically in the 3 trials previous to this event. Stewards noted their explanations, however advised Mr Duke that the filly must trial and produce to the stewards a veterinary clearance prior to the horse’s next race start. A post race veterinary examination of DIRTY HARRIET revealed the filly to be showing minor signs of shin soreness.


RACE 4: Cougar Bourbon 3yo & Upwards Class 3 H’cap – 1000m
1st – Partygoer 2nd – Tuscan 3rd – Queenie Amber 4th - Millimac

Trainer R. Maund was fined $100 for presenting PARTYGOER to the enclosure with incorrect gear.

MILLIMAC (R. Goltz) and PARTYGOER (M. Price) came together on jumping away.

IN ORDER (J. Byrne) was a little slow to begin.

SPEEDEX (D. Carrigg) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 500m, MILLIMAC (R. Goltz) ran up on to the heels of PARTYGOER and had to be steadied.

Shortly after straightening, STRATIFICATION (S. Katsidis) was placed in restricted room between IN ORDER (J. Byrne) and SPEEDEX, which shifted out slightly. A short distance later, SPEEDEX shifted out and brushed STRATIFICATION.

TUSCAN (M. Sano) was unable to gain clear running in the early stages of the straight.

SPEEDEX and STRATIFICATION (S. Katsidis) raced wide throughout.


RACE 5: Skyy Vodka Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – One For The Road 2nd – Tricky Tilly 3rd – Riviera Sur Mer 4th – Drop Of Hennesy

PICKASON (M. Rice) and GOLD IN MIND (J. Taylor) were slow to begin.

STELLABELLA (J. McKinnon) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with ROLLER DRUM (S. Apthorpe).

CLASSIC KELLEY (K. Yoshida) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with the hind quarters of ONE FOR THE ROAD (J. Murphy).

J. Masset, rider of SQUEEZE ME IN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1100m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of REGAL REASON (P. Wolfgram), resulting in that horse having to be checked. J. Masset was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 30 October and to expire at midnight, 8 November 2006.

Near the 1000m, AFLEET BOY (S. Katsidis) had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of ONE FOR THE ROAD, which shifted in.

Passing the 900m, STELLABELLA (J. McKinnon) had to be checked when placed in restricted room between AFLEET BOY (S. Katsidis) and REGAL REASON (P. Wolfgram) which shifted out when overracing off the heels of SQUEEZE ME IN (J. Masset) despite the efforts of P. Wolfgram, rider of REGAL REASON.

WIDE BAY (M. Price), PICKASON (M. Rice) and CLASSIC KELLEY (K. Yoshida) were all forced to race wide throughout.

ROLLER DRUM (S. Apthorpe) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight and was obliged to shift out to obtain clear running.

Close to the finish line, SQUEEZE ME (J. Masset) shifted in and bumped GOLD IN MIND.

A post race veterinary examination of AFLEET BOY revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer P. Facoory was advised that AFLEET BOY must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start, as that he must produce to the stewards the results of an ECG report on the horse.


RACE 6: QRSE Crown Gold Class 6 H’cap – 1300m
1st – Primal Impulse 2nd – King’s Valour 3rd – Court Adjourned 4th – Red Pill

THORPE (J. Sharp) blundered on jumping away.

OUR EXCESS (S. Hughes) was slow to begin.

BIG KEA (Z. Landry), which was racing wide, was then forced wider on the track at the 500m when OUR EXCESS (S. Hughes) shifted out. BIG KEA was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race.

Passing the 400m, JESTER’S DANCE (P. Spry) ran up on to the heels of THORPE (J. Sharp) and had to be steadied. JESTER’S DANCE then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 150m, RED PILL (J. McKinnon) ran up on to the heels of TAABINGA LASS (M. Price) and had to be steadied.

BOONAH GOLD (S. Long) raced wide for the majority of the event.

B. El-Issa, rider of the 3rd placegetter, COURT ADJOURNED, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish of the race.


RACE 7: Carlton Draught Toowoomba Cup – 2050m
1st – Adavale Hornet 2nd – Arenaceous 3rd – Classic Karla 4th – Only Heresae

FINLARIG (C. Spry) was slow to begin.

SUPER FRIEND (S. Apthorpe) jumped away awkwardly.

ADAVALE HORNET raced wide in the early stages.

FINLARIG and MIXED DOZEN (J. Sharp) blundered on the crossing at the 1500m.

Near the 1100m, CLASSIC KARLA (J. Byrne) improved to the inside of MIXED DOZEN (J. Sharp) where there was insufficient room and had to be steadied.

Near the 400m, SUPER FRIEND was placed in restricted room between FAMOUS DANE (R. Goltz) and FINLARIG, which shifted out slightly.

Close to the winning post, MAMELUKE (R. McMahon) had to be eased when tightened for room by CLASSIC KARLA, which was taken in by ARENACEOUS (K. Wharton), which shifted ground under pressure. K. Wharton, rider of ARENACEOUS, will be advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

FIL THE BILL (B. El-Issa) and OSTRAS (J. McKinnon) raced wide throughout.

RUE THE SAINT bled from both nostrils during the event. Connections were advised that the gelding would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.


RACE 8: Yellowglen Class 3 H’cap – 1600m
1st – Learned Leo 2nd – Legal Miss 3rd – Saami Knight 4th – Lady’s Opinion

I’M SO BLESSED (S. Richardson), which was a little slow to begin, was tightened for room between LEGAL MISS (S. Drake) and SAAMI KNIGHT (S. Apthorpe), which shifted out.

Shortly after the start, THORBEY (S. Hughes) shifted out, placing LADY’S OPINION (H. Hamada), BRIDGE TO VICTORY (S. Galvin) and SAAMI KNIGHT (S. Apthorpe) in restricted room.

Near the 1400m, SAAMI KNIGHT and BRIDGE TO VICTORY were placed in restricted room between LADY’S OPINION (H. Hamada) and REINCARNATION (M. Rice), which shifted in slightly. In this incident, BRIDGE TO VICTORY had to be steadied. BRIDGE TO VICTORY raced ungenerously for a short distance after this incident.

KALININGRAD (S. Katsidis) was forced to race wide in the early stages.

ASHMARK (K. Wharton) and REINCARNATION were forced to race wide in the early and middle stages.


RACE 9: Pure Blonde 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
1st – Epicurean 2nd – Paradise Spirit 3rd – Aurtobe 4th – Jimmy Jim

HEIR TO GREATNESS (S. Apthorpe) was slow to begin.

JIMMYJIM (B. Stewart) and REGUALO (K. Wharton) were placed in restricted room on jumping away between BLONDE SPY (S. Drake) and AURTOBE (R. Goltz), which jumped outwards.

RAINBOW’S ANGEL (N. Summers) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

JIMMYJIM overraced in the early and middle stages.

N. Summers, rider of RAINBOW’S ANGEL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 800m she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of NATURALLY FRIENDLY (M. Price), which was placed in restricted room between RAINBOW’S ANGEL and MY FIRST LADY (K. Banks), which resulted in NATURALLY FRIENDLY striking heels and blundering. N. Summers was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 28 October, and to expire at midnight, 8 November 2006.

Approaching the 600m, NATURALLY FRIENDLY (M. Price) had to be momentarily steadied when BALBORA shifted in.

When racing wide near the 600m, LIGHTS ABLAZING (J. Taylor) was inclined to race ungenerously.

Passing the 600m, ALDA VALE (S. Richardson) ran up on to the heels of GOLDSTROM (J. McKinnon) and had to be steadied.

P. Wolfgram, rider of EPICUREAN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 150m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of JIMMY JIM, which was taken out across the running of MY FIRST LADY, resulting in MY FIRST LADY being checked and shifting out, making contact with BALBORA. P. Wolfgram was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 28 October and to expire at midnight, 8 November 2006.

When questioned regarding the performance BALBORA, P. Spry stated that after being caught wide early he obtained a position closer to the fence in the middle stages, however when he elected to shift wider rounding the home turn in an endeavour to obtain clear running the horse failed to respond to his riding.
