Springsure 25/10/08: Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for Apprentice P Randall failing to fulfil his engagements at the above meeting, which resulted in Race 1 DESERT PATROL, Race 2 RUTTERBERG and Race 4 TOP WIN all having to be scratched as no rider was available. After taking evidence from P Randall and Trainer R Lipp stewards found Apprentice Randall guilty of a charge of negligence under AR 175 (k) in that he was negligent in failing to notify the connections of his respective mounts that he had been stood down and would therefore not be fulfilling his engagements. Apprentice Randall was fined the sum of $1000 and given 2 months to pay.

Near the 400m, FAIR ACE (R Hinricks) which was losing ground had to be steadied when tightened for room by PICWORTH (M Dorrington), which shifted in.

JACKSON HILL (B Evans) was inclined to lie in under pressure over the concluding stages of the race.

PROSECUTION (C Dixon), SPECTACULAR PIC (W Clasohm) and RORY’S RAPPER (J Wood) all raced wide throughout.

An inquiry was opened into the running and handling of ALTAICA. After taking evidence from both Trainer J Troy and Apprentice S Bogenhuber and viewing the patrol films, Stewards found that ALTAICA threw its head in the air and lost considerable ground at the start as a result of the mare having turned its head sideways just prior to the start being affected and when Apprentice Bogenhuber attempted to turn the mares head back, the start was affected and ALTAICA then resented the pressure on her mouth. Stewards also accepted that, as the mare has a tendency to over-race, Apprentice Bogenhuber was reluctant to ride the horse with excessive vigour to join up with the rest of the field; instead she elected to allow the horse to gradually make ground to a point when she rejoined the field near the 700m. A post race veterinary examination of the ALTAICA (S Bogenhuber) found that the mare coughed on several occasions which, in the opinion of the veterinary surgeon, was of significance to the mare’s performance. Trainer P Troy was advised that the results of an Endoscopic Examination were required prior to the mares’ next race start.

Near the 400m, THE CLANDY MAN CAN (S Bogenhuber) was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied between STRAIGHT SHOOTING (C Dixon) and CHECK THE LEADER (S Drake), which shifted in.

Jockey S Drake (CHECK THE LEADER) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137 (a) in that she allowed her mount to shift in from leaving the 400m to a point near the 350m resulting in STRAIGHT SHOOTING (C Dixon) and FINDING HOPE (C Spry) being tightened for room onto the hindquarters of ENGLISH STAR (R Hinricks) and as a result FINDING HOPE (C Spry) was forced to be checked. Jockey S Drake (CHECK THE LEADER) was suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 meetings commencing midnight 08.11.08 and to conclude midnight 19.11.08.
