MOON CHASER:
On that day Stewards permitted trainer J. Thomas to race MOON CHASER in blinkers based on evidence that he had applied previously for such gear. After hearing further submissions Mr Thomas pleaded guilty to a charge under AR140B (1) (2) and fined the sum of $200.00.
As jockey A. Merritt was indisposed he was replaced as per steward’s summary sheet. A. Merritt was advised that he must provide a medical clearance prior to his next race ride.
Race 1: XXXX GOLD QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Pioneer Way 2nd – Released 3rd – Hemp And Soap 4th – Easy Knight
Due to a misunderstanding J McKinnon was declared as the rider of FIDGETING and was replaced by C Bumstead.
CLOSE RANGE (J Brown) jumped in the air as the start was effected and threw its head in the air and lost considerable ground. Trainer R Maund’s stable representative Mr N Saunders was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required prior to the filly’s next start.
FIDGETING (C Bumstead) and THRILLSEEKER (K Yoshida) were both slow to begin.
EASY KNIGHT (S Bogenhuber) began awkwardly.
Leaving the 800m PIONEER WAY (J Warrington) shifted in causing SHELDON (A Best) to be momentarily steadied.
Near the 700m EASY KNIGHT (S Bogenhuber) when being steadied shifted in brushing the running rail and then shifted out hampering CLOSE RANGE (J Brown) which inturn shifted out forcing FIDGETING (C Bumstead) wider on the track.
Near the 300m EASY KNIGHT (S Bogenhuber) shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with CLOSE RANGE (J Brown).
MIGHTY YUKON (M Dorrington) raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race.
FEISTY (R Goltz) raced wide throughout the event.
A post race Veterinary examination of FIDGETING (C Bumstead) which finished tailed off, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 2: PSP VIDEO F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Maid Ready 2nd – Lilleelavee 3rd – Angelic 4th – Bumper Harvest
The start was delayed when LILLEELAVEE (R Goltz) proved difficult to load. Trainer F Adams was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners.
The start was further delayed when CANNY KELL (N Evans) broke through the front of the barriers riderless and after galloping a circuit of the course was declared a late scratching at 4.48pm by order of the Stewards. On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on CANNY KELL were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 2 cents in the dollar of the face value of all win bets and 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place bets to be applicable. Trainer F Braybrook was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required for the mare prior to its next start.
BUMPER HARVEST (D Mo) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with TELESTO’S GEM (M Dorrington) and as a result lost ground.
ELECTRIC LASS (M Heagney) and CRIMSON FIRE (J Brown) were both slow to begin.
MAID READY (B Evans) began awkwardly and raced ungenerously for a short distance after the start and did so again near the 700m.
Near the 450m GOODLOOKIN GAMBLER (K Banks) had to be steadied off the heels of EZI GIRL (S Bogenhuber) which shifted in. S Bogenhuber was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
DIASCO (J Warrington) over raced in the middle stages of the race.
Race 3: LIVESTOCK TRANSPORT GROUP C&G CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Heza Flashman 2nd – Snooker McCue 3rd – Mr Mayfair 4th – Commizarations
VERRIDON (R Goltz) which injured itself in the parade yard was declared a late scratching 5.15pm by order of the Stewards acting on Veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on VERRIDON were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 27 cents in the dollar of the face value of all win bets and 19 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place bets to be applicable on all bets made prior to 5.15pm. E Ropiha, the trainer of VERRIDON, was advised that a veterinary clearance of soundness would be required prior to the gelding’s next start.
MR MAYFAIR (K Banks) and VEILS DOUBLE (J Cook) were both slow to begin.
HEZA FLASHMAN (K Yoshida) began awkwardly.
COMMIZARATIONS (S Bogenhuber) raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race.
REVELSTOKE (L Roberts) and DASHING IMPULSE (M Heagney) both raced wide for the majority of the race.
When questioned into the improved performance of HEZA FLASHMAN, trainer M Flanigan stated the horse had over raced in its previous start over 1600m and after being freshened up had pleased him in its work leading up to to-days event and had also trialled well prior to today’s event. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 4: RUBELLI LEATHER LOUNGES CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Patch’s Express 2nd – Mr Tombola 3rd – Rock Away The Days 4th – Stellar Show
ROCK AWAY THE DAYS (L Roberts) and CAT DAZZLE (K Banks) were both slow to begin.
MR TOMBOLA (S Drake) began awkwardly.
BACKINAFLASH (R Goltz) raced wide for the majority of the race.
When questioned into the seemingly disappointing performance of SPILT MILK, apprentice S Bogenhuber stated that in her opinion the horse was reluctant to race inside other runners and as a result had a tendency to lay in throughout the event brushing the running rail on a number of occasions. She further added that the horse did not feel comfortable in today’s track conditions. Trainer R Ludwig was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the horse’s performance today and gave an undertaking to advise Stewards should anything come to his attention that may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance. Stewards noted their explanations. A post race veterinary examination of SPILT MILK failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Race 5: TOOWOOMBA SHADE & CANVAS CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1600M
1st – Eton Hall 2nd – Drumshanbo 3rd – Radio Star 4th – Just A Classic
ETON HALL (B Evans) was slow to begin.
WHATAHOUTE (J Warrington) which was slow to begin had tendency to over race in the early stages.
RADIO STAR (K Banks) over raced in the early stages of the race.
THREE TENORS (S Bogenhuber) which jumped away awkwardly commenced to over race in the early stages of the race and near the 1200m threw its head in the air when being restrained and shifted out. THREE TENORS then continued to over race for some distance after and was obliged to race wide near the 800m as result.
DRUMSHANBO (C Spry) over raced in the early and middle stages of the race.
Approaching the 800m WHATAHOUTE (J Warrington) improved onto the heels of DRUMSHANBO (C Spry) and had to be steadied.
JUST A CLASSIC (M Dorrington) raced in restricted room to the inside of ETON HALL (B Evans) for a short distance near the 800m.
Following this event C Spry was stood down on medical advice. C Spry was advised that he must provide a medical clearance before his next race ride.
Race 6: 3 WAY PHOTOS 3YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE S/W – 1600M
1st – Moon Chaser 2nd – Cyan 3rd – Way North 4th – Pop Legend
As C Spry was indisposed he was replaced by J Warrington as the rider of CLANGISMYDAD.
The start was delayed due to the ambulance officers being delayed whilst attending to C. Spry.
SHOJA which was presented without its advertised gear of a tail chain was permitted to race without that gear when no tail chain was able to be located. N Hocking, the trainer of SHOJA, was fined the sum of $100.
C Bumstead (MOON CHASER) was dislodged during the preliminary giving her a seemingly harmless fall.
LIGHT SENSATION (R Goltz) which was slow to begin was further hampered by POP LEGEND (K Yoshida) which jumped out at the start.
Both WAY NORTH (B Evans) and BRONZE TINKA (S Bogenhuber) were slow to begin.
SKYSTEP (M O’Brien) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Leaving the 600m WAY NORTH shifted out to improve and raced wide from that point on.
Both BRONZE TINKA and SKY STEP shifted wider leaving the 300m.
Race 7: JEWELS OF THE RANGE MAIDEN PLATE 3YO & UP S/W – 1200M
1st – Lindner Girl 2nd – Jugerston 3rd – Make Mine Cash 4th – Robson
BALBOA STAR was declared a late scratching at 8.42am by order of stewards. At a subsequent inquiry M. Park, the trainer of BALBOA STAR was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of LR71 (1) in that he failed to scratch the gelding by the prescribed time.
J Warrington replaced C Spry as the rider of DANSEUR PICK.
FATAL FEMME FATALE (K Banks) and ETERNAL WOMAN (J Cook) were tightened for room at the start between ZA LOVETT (N Evans) and SIR MOSSMAN (B Evans) which jumped out.
ROBSON (A Best) and ROBIN GOODFELLOW (B Thomson) were both slow to begin.
Shortly after the start ABOUT EVE (J Brown) shifted in abruptly making heaving contact with LINDNER GIRL (S. Bogenhuber) which became unbalanced and then commenced to buck, dislodging its rider before crashing through the inside running rail. ROBIN GOODFELLOW (B Thomson) which was following had to be checked to avoid the heels of ABOUT EVE as result. J. Brown was treated by the clubs ambulance officers before being transferred to Toowoomba’s St Vincent’s hospital for further observation. M. Nolan, the trainer of ABOUT EVE, was advised that the horse must complete a series of three official trials to the satisfaction steward’s before it would be permitted to race again. A post race veterinary examination of ABOUT EVE revealed the mare to multiple minor lacerations to its legs, lower neck and shoulders. Mr Nolan was further advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness would be required prior to the horse competing in trials.
MR ROCHESTER (S Apthorpe) raced greenly for the majority of the event and near the 550m shifted in momentarily crowding ROBSON (A Best) which had to be steadied.
Near the 350m ROBSON (A Best) was eased when momentarily tightened for room between ZA LOVETT (N Evans) which shifted out and MY BOY (M Heagney) which shifted in.
FATAL FEMME FATALE (K Banks) became unbalanced near the 200m and shifted out.
Near the 100m ZA LOVETT (N Evans) shifted out and had to be steadied from the heels of ETERNAL WOMAN (J Cook).
LINDNER GIRL (S Bogenhuber), MY BOY (M Heagney), ROBIN GOODFELLOW (B Thomson) and MAKE MINE CASH (K Yoshida) all raced wide for the majority of the event.
