As C. Spry and K. Yoshida were indisposed, rider changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: Weetwood Packages Now Available Maiden Plate – 870m

Trainer N. Hilton was fined $100 for failing to produce the identification card for FALISATY.

SANDY ILLUSION and FALISATY, which had not started for a considerable period of time, were examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the event and deemed suitable to race.

JUST A CRACKER (D. McIntosh) jumped in the air as the gates were released and lost ground.

HEAVENLY GLASS (A. Fancourt) was slow to begin.

HEAVENLY GLASS had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn.

Near the 300m, SANDY ILLUSION (G. Geran) was disappointed for a run between FALISATY (B. Stower) and HEAVENLY GLASS and as a result was forced to steady, and approaching the 100m SANDY ILLUSION then improved on to the heels of WASHER (J. Kehoe) and was forced to steady and shift to the inside to obtain clear running.

Over the final 100m, ALL IN ALL (N. Evans) raced greenly and shifted wider on the track.

Leaving the 100m, HEAVENLY GLASS, which was weakening, was tightened for room between FALISATY and JUST A CRACKER, which shifted in under hard riding. D. McIntosh, rider of JUST A CRACKER, was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

Stewards questioned trainer J. Anderson in relation to the performance of HEAVENLY GLASS, which was having its first start today, and was heavily supported, starting favourite. Miss Anderson stated that the horse won a recent jumpout convincingly and as such expected it to win today, however the heavy support for the filly was not stable inspired. Miss Anderson further advised that apprentice Fancourt reported that HEAVENLY GLASS raced greenly throughout the event today and on that advice may experiment with the horse’s gear prior to its next race start. Miss Anderson further stated that on return to scale HEAVENLY GLASS was breathing quite heavily and as such will have an endoscopic examination carried out in the days subsequent to the event and would report the results of such examination to stewards.

Race 2: Harvey Norman Electrical Toowoomba Class 2 H'cap – 1100m

DIAGNOSE (R. Ride), LADY OSCAR (A. Merritt), ACTIVE STAR (S. Apthorpe) and THIS IS WAR (B. Evans) were all tightened for room at the start between KASEY CHELSEA (S. Bogenhuber) and QUANTUM SHADOW (N. Tomizawa), which shifted out abruptly. As a result, THIS IS WAR (B. Evans) was checked and lost ground.

After leaving the 900m, whilst being restrained, BUSH CAVIAR (G. Geran) threw its head in the air and raced ungenerously for a short distance.

After being caught wide in the early stages, KASEY CHELSEA was ridden forward vigorously and obtained the leading position passing the 800m.

LADY OSCAR (A. Merritt) shifted in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

Stewards questioned B. Evans and trainer B. Currie in relation to the disappointing performance of THIS IS WAR. Jockey Evans advised he was instructed to ride the gelding in a forward position, however after suffering interference at the start he was forced further back in the field than anticipated. He added that despite this the filly enjoyed a nice run throughout the event in a trailing position behind BUSH CAVIAR, the eventual winner of the race, however when placed under pressure, THIS IS WAR failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Trainer B. Currie also expressed disappointment with the performance of THIS IS WAR tonight however was of the view that the filly may not have backed up from its most recent start at Doomben the week prior on 8 March 2014. Based on this, Mr Currie advised that he would freshen the horse up and space its runs in future, and was also of the opinion that he would drop the gelding back in distance for its future events. A post race veterinary examination of THIS IS WAR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 3: Hannas Family Drapers Class 2 H'cap – 1650m

Trainer R. Lipp was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for PEARLS FOR ME by the prescribed time.

COMMANDER BOLTZ (T. Banks) stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer K. Bolton advised that COMMANDER BOLTZ must trial in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.

Near the 1000m, STEEL TO THE HEEL (G. Geran) was momentarily crowded for room when TREASURE MAP (A. Fancourt) shifted in.

BILLABONG BIRD (N. Yamada) had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

Following the poor performance of PARAFIRE today, trainer B. Currie advised that the gelding would now be leaving his stable.

N. Tomizawa, rider of STAR FORMATION, was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.

When questioned as to the performance of GRAWLIX, jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that the filly settled towards the rear of the field, which is its customary racing pattern. Jockey Bogenhuber further added that the tempo in tonight’s event, which was moderate, did not suit the racing pattern of GRAWLIX, as it was forced to make up considerable ground from the 800m and as a result was forced to travel wide. She further added that, in her opinion, the filly ran on fairly in the home straight and would be better suited to races over longer distances than that of tonight’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 4: Wagners Benchmark 75 H'cap – 2150m

Stewards accepted the explanation for the late change of rider from G. Geran to J. Letherby for HARDMAN HARRY.

TROPHY HEAD (R. Ride) threw its head in the air on jumping away.

ZAGAMI (S. Bogenhuber) began awkwardly and jumped outwards, making heavy contact with the barrier gate.

In the early stages, COWORTH PARK (N. Evans) shifted in, taking PREACHER BOY (N. Yamada) in on to KESTHIN (B. Stower), which had to be steadied.

After passing the winning post on the first occasion, KELTIC HONOUR (S. Apthorpe) was tightened for room between TAYSTAR (R. Goltz) and PREACHER BOY, which shifted in. N. Yamada, rider of PREACHER BOY, was advised to exercise more care.

Making the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion, TAYSTAR threw its head in the air and commenced to hang out for a short distance.

Approaching the 1400m, TAYSTAR was tightened for room and was forced to check when racing to the inside of COWORTH PARK, which was taken in by PLUMAGE (N. Tomizawa). N. Tomizawa, rider of PLUMAGE, was reprimanded.

After being caught wide in the middle stages, T. Banks allowed SONIC HILL to stride forward after passing the 1100m and obtained the position outside the leader near the 700m.

Rounding the home turn, PLUMAGE shifted out whilst tiring, taking TAYSTAR (R. Goltz) outwards. This resulted in PREACHER BOY (N. Yamada) having to be steadied to avoid that runner’s heels.

After passing the 400m, CARN (A. Fancourt) became unbalanced for a short distance after making contact with the running rail.

CARN was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight, and near the 200m was forced to shift to the outside to obtain clear running.

ZAGAMI (S. Bogenhuber), PREACHER BOY and KESTHIN all raced wide for the majority of the race.

J.Letherby, rider of HARDMAN HARRY, was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

A post race veterinary examination of PLUMAGE, which weakened from the 600m, revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer’s representative Mr H. Saunders was advised that trainer K. Kemp would be required to obtain a veterinary clearance for PLUMAGE prior to its next race start.

Race 5: Clark Rubber QTIS 2yo C&G Maiden H'cap – 1050m

FASHION APP (N. Tomizawa) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.

After passing the 900m, CHANGEINTHEFORTUNE (J. Orman) raced keenly whilst being restrained.

NANDINE ROAD (C. Maund) and CHANGEINTHEFORTUNE bumped on 2 occasions rounding the home turn.

After passing the 100m, NANDINE ROAD was shifted out marginally and was forced to shift to the outside of FASHION APP, which shifted in under pressure.

FASHION APP and SOVEREIGN SON (B. Stower) raced wide for the majority of the race.

Stewards questioned jockey N. Tomizawa regarding the tactics adopted on FASHION APP, whereby the colt raced 4 wide for the duration of the event in a 6-horse field. N. Tomizawa advised that the colt began awkwardly and lost some ground at the start, however he rode the horse along in the early stages in an endeavour to cross SOVEREIGN SON, which would have enabled him to be positioned closer to the rail. Jockey Tomizawa advised that when unable to cross SOVEREIGN SON he attempted to restrain FASHION APP to obtain a trailing position behind SOVEREIGN SON, however when the pace of the race steadied he was unable to restrain sufficiently to obtain this position and as such was forced to race 4 wide for the remainder of the event. Stewards noted the explanation.

J. Orman, rider of CHANGEINTHEFORTUNE, was reprimanded for failing to weigh in 5th.

Race 6: Dean Lyons Building Maiden Plate – 1200m

The start of this event was delayed to allow the completion of an interstate event.

LATARNO (N. Evans) and TO BE KING (R. Goltz) made contact shortly after the start.

Leaving the 900m, ARNHEM LAND (S. Apthorpe) shifted in and made contact with TIMELESS TALE (B. Stower).

Near the 700m, EXTRA GLANCE (N. Tomizawa) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of TIMELESS TALE (B. Stower).

Passing the 500m, MISS EXPRESS (B. Appo) shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made heavy contact with ARNHEM LAND, which became unbalanced and shifted out, forcing POLTICE (J. Morris) wider on the track.

Shortly after turning for home, PUREST HAVEN (S. Bogenhuber), which was tiring, shifted out and made contact with TO BE KING, resulting in TO BE KING becoming unbalanced.

An inquiry opened into the circumstances in which jockey P. Holmes, rider of DASHING CONQUEROR, dropped his whip in the home straight. After taking initial evidence from P. Holmes, the inquiry was adjourned to enable stewards to further review the patrol films of the race and to analyse the betting on the event.

A post race veterinary examination of PUREST HAVEN revealed it have bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the second occasion on which PUREST HAVEN has bled, the gelding will now incur a lifetime bar from racing.

Race 7: Weetwood Week 7-12 April Class 5 H'cap – 1300m

The start of this event was delayed to allow the completion of an interstate event.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by R. Ride, rider of the 2nd placegetter, MODERN AL, against GREY COUNTESS (N. Evans) being declared 1st, alleging interference rounding the home turn and in the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards’ patrol video, stewards found that when rounding the home turn, apprentice Ride, in attempting to obtain clear running, shifted her mount outwards and made contact with GREY COUNTESS on 2 occasions, resulting in GREY COUNTESS becoming slightly unbalanced. Therefore stewards deemed the interference at this portion of the race was attributable to apprentice Ride’s actions rather than that of jockey N. Evans. Stewards further found that at a point near the 200m, GREY COUNTESS shifted in marginally, which resulted in MODERN AL being taken in slightly. Stewards deemed the interference suffered to MODERN AL at this point of the race to be negligible and therefore on those findings stewards dismissed the objection and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

GOLDEN CASH (A. Fancourt) began awkwardly.

DAADS ORDER (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to muster early speed.

Approaching the 400m, devils force (J. Orman), which was weakening, was momentarily forced to steady when racing between GREY COUNTESS (N. Evans) and MODERN AL (R. Ride), which shifted out to obtain clear running.

Trainer J. Crompton reported to stewards that DEVILS FORCE bled during the event. She was advised that DEVILS FORCE would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
