SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Toowoomba, 17.5.14 – Race 5
Trainer T. Sears was fined the sum of $200 for racing TARTUFO in blinkers when it was established that the gear was not part of the official gear worn by that filly.

Race 1: Windamere Homes Maiden H'cap – 1300m
When M. Abe was injured and unable to ride, HILDESHEIM was declared a late scratching at 12.25 pm due to no suitable rider being available. M. Abe will be required to provide a medical clearance before riding again.
Jockey S. Bogenhuber advised stewards that trainer B. Currie had instructed her to ride SHINZIGZAG midfield if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
AUBREY’S ACE (T. Banks) and FLASH MAGIC (N. Tomizawa) made contact on jumping away.
ROCKIN’ DUDLEY (N. Yamada) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m, GET ALPHA (W. O'Connell) shifted in when not fully clear, resulting in ALASTAIR’S CROWN (K. Yoshida) having to be momentarily steadied and shift in, inconveniencing O’TORIO (R. Ride). W. O’Connell was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
EASY TO SMILE (J. Orman) was momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
GET ALPHA and ALASTAIR’S CROWN raced wide throughout.
Trainer G. Hay was questioned regarding the performance of ALASTAIR’S CROWN, which compounded from the 600m and finished a distant last. Mr Hay was at a loss to explain the performance stating that the horse had trialled well recently and that he was expecting a forward showing. In light of tonight’s performance, stewards advised Mr Hay that ALASTAIR’S CROWN would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again. A post race veterinary examination of ALASTAIR’S CROWN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
J. Orman, rider of the 3rd placegetter, EASY TO SMILE, was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight.
Race 2: G&M Consultants Class 4 H'cap – 1200m
HE IS LOYAL was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 7.45 am after trainer M. Callaghan advised that the horse was unfit to start after sustaining an injury at the stables.
MONTO was declared a late scratching at 4.35 pm on veterinary advice when it was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer T. Sears was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for MONTO before being permitted to race again.
As apprentice S. Fawke failed to arrive at the track on time, stewards permitted J. Orman to be substituted as the rider of SHOCTONIC. Apprentice Fawke was fined $100.
GHOST TRAIN (B. Stower) began awkwardly.
GHOST TRAIN raced keenly in the early stages and shifted in and struck the running rail on 2 occasions near the 1000m.
NARCISSUS was obliged to race wide throughout.
Approaching the 200m, S. Bogenhuber (NARCISSUS), when taking another hold of the horse, dropped the near-side rein momentarily, resulting in her becoming unbalanced.
Race 3: Craig’s Highfield Home Hardware Class 1 H'cap – 1200m
MAJOR BLOT (S. Fawke) was slow to begin.
Near the 1000m, BENJI’S WORLD (T. Banks) shifted in at the same time as MAJOR BLOT improved quickly to the inside of that runner resulting in MAJOR BLOT being steadied.
VINO VOLO (B. Stower) raced keenly in the early stages.
I’M NO RUBY was momentarily held up approaching the home turn.
Approaching the 200m, I’M NO RUBY (P. Holmes) shifted out abruptly to obtain clear running and in doing so took BENJI’S WORLD wider on the track, resulting in ZEDARK (A. Fancourt) which was following having to be steadied. P. Holmes, rider of I’M NO RUBY, was reprimanded for the manner in which he shifted ground.
VINO VOLO and MAJOR BLOT raced wide for the majority of the race.
On pulling up near the 1300m, R. Ride was dislodged from the winner JUMBO PRINCE. As R. Ride was injured and being attended to by ambulance officers, acting under the provisions of AR142 stewards were satisfied that JUMBO PRINCE had carried its allotted weight and therefore correct weight was given on the Judge’s placing’s. R. Ride was transported to Hospital for further observation. Stewards obtained statements from the Starter and Clerk of the Course with regards to this incident and intend on interviewing R. Ride at a later date.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for apprentice B. Stower being dislodged from VINO VOLO near the 300m. After taking evidence from T. Banks, rider of BENJI’S WORLD, S. Fawke, rider of MAJOR BLOT and B. Stower, the inquiry was adjourned to enable apprentice R. Ride, who had been transported to hospital for observation, to attend the inquiry.
Race 4: Newlands Civil Construction Class 1 H'cap – 1625m
CAN SHE MOVE (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to begin.
KING KAIYO (B. Stower) overraced in the early stages and when being restrained near the 1200m turn, shifted wider on the track. KING KAIYO continued to overrace for some distance later.
CRAFTY’S LAST (N. Tomizawa) raced wide for the majority of the race.
J. Orman (FIERY GIRL) was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides on one occasion in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
Stewards questioned N. Tomizawa regarding the performance of CRAFTY’S LAST, which compounded in the home straight and finished a distant last. He stated that, in his opinion, the horse did not handle the track conditions and was under pressure from the 800m and failed to respond to his riding. Stewards will interview trainer B. Tattam at a later date regarding the overall performance CRAFTY’S LAST. A post race veterinary examination of CRAFTY’S LAST revealed a poor post-race recovery. Stewards will interview B. Tattam at a later date regarding the performance of CRAFTY’S LAST.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey W. O’Connell with regard to the seemingly disappointing performance of PRINCE OF PEACE. He stated that the horse failed to run out the 1600m of today’s event and felt that that it would be suited to races of a shorter distance than that of tonight’s race.
Race 5: Extend Before And After School Care BM75 H'cap – 1625m
EXTREME MOVER (S. Bogenhuber) began awkwardly.
DODGING EDDIE (J. Orman) was slow to begin.
Approaching the home turn, TANZINA (B. Stower) improved up onto the heels of AUSWORLD (L. Tarrant) and was steadied.
Trainer T. Thomas reported that AUSWORLD bled from both nostrils during the event. AUSWORLD will incur a 3 month bar from racing. Trainer T. Thomas advised stewards that AUSWORLD will now be retired from racing.
Race 6: Boss Construction Qld QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1625m
LEPRECHAUN LAD (A. Fancourt) began awkwardly and lost ground.
SELFIE (K. Yoshida) raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
Near the 900m when the pace eased, LEPRECHAUN LAD (A. Fancourt) threw its head up and racing ungenerously for a short distance.
LEPRECHAUN LAD was held up for clear running from the 400m until leaving the 300m.
Race 7: MSP Photography Class 2 H'cap – 1050m
OUR GOLD ROSE (N. Tomizawa) began awkwardly.
SHADOWY PAST (J. Orman) was inclined to lay in from the 600m until rounding the home turn. J. Orman stated that the horse did not handle today’s track conditions.
A post race veterinary examination of OUR GOLD ROSE revealed the mare had bled from both nostrils. Connections were advised that OUR GOLD ROSE would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months. Stewards intend to question trainer T. Sears with regards to OUR GOLD ROSE being removed from the track before the prescribed time.
