SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Toowoomba 05.07.14
Race 5 – Stewards questioned trainer N. Saunders with regards to the improved performance of LIDO. He stated that he had not been overly disappointed with the geldings past two runs in particular LIDO’S most recent run at Ipswich when racing wide when improving from the 600m. He agreed that LIDO was down significantly in weight from previous runs and with the claim of an apprentice that this also had a bearing on the performance. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 5 – Trainer T. Sears reported that following ROAD TRAIN ROSIE’S disappointing performance the filly was found to have an elevated temperature the following day. He added that the filly had now been sent for a spell.
Race 1: BECOME A TTC MEMBER CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1625M
KING KAIYO (B. Stower) was slow to begin.
After being slow to begin EAT YOUR HEART OUT (M. McGillivray) settled further back in the field than anticipated.
Rounding the first turn near the 1300m LAKI LAKI (A. Fancourt) hung out and shifted wider on the track for a short distance and during the middle stages LAKI LAKI had a tendency to race keenly.
LIDO (B. Evans) shifted out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
Race 2: NEIL MANSELL GROUP BM80 H'CAP – 1625M
Near the 1500m and again near the 1200m EXTREME MOVER (A. Fancourt) hit the running rail, resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced in the saddle.
SEEN (J. Orman) raced keenly in the early stages.
EXTREME MOVER laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Stewards questioned apprentice J. Orman in relation to his tactics on SEEN today from the 700m, and furthermore into the overall performance of that gelding. Apprentice Orman advised Stewards that he had been instructed to ride the gelding back in the field today and after passing the 600m it was his intention to improve into the race in a trailing position following EXTREME MOVER. Apprentice Orman added that SEEN failed to quicken as he had anticipated at that point of the race and as a result he elected to improve closer to the rails rounding the home turn to save ground prior to shifting wider on the track in the home straight. Apprentice Orman further added that SEEN ran on only fairly in the home straight and in his opinion proved somewhat disappointing, however he was of the view that something may have been amiss with the horse. A post-race veterinary examination of SEEN revealed that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer B. Currie was advised that as this was the second occasion on which SEEN has bled, it will now incur a mandatory lifetime ban from racing.
A post-race veterinary examination of COULDN’T SEE IT (S. Bogenhuber) revealed an injury to the off fore tendon. Trainer B. Currie was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness for COULDN’T SEE IT would be required prior to the horse’s next start. Mr Currie advised Stewards that COULDN’T SEE IT would now be retired.
Race 3: TTC RACING AWARDS 13/9 CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1300M
RAGING TO WIN (R. Goltz) and NATURE BITES (E. Ljung) made contact on jumping away.
Near the 1100m WARCRUSHER (M. McGillivray) improved on to the heels of ROOMS ON FIRE (S. Bogenhuber) and as a result was forced to shift wider on the track for a short distance.
NATURE BITES and HOT TESTA (B. Evans) were obliged to race wide throughout.
Near the 450m HOT TESTA laid in under pressure and made contact with BONTEENA (B. Stower).
When questioned as to the performance of MR ALFRANCO, stable representative Mr A. Wallace advised Stewards that in his opinion MR ALFRANCO was not suited today by racing inside horses, which resulted in the horse being held up and unable to improve from the 600m. Mr Wallace further advised that in his opinion the step up in class from a maiden to a Class 2 event tonight was also to the detriment of the gelding.
Stewards asked N. Tomizawa to comment on the performance of APPROPRIATION. Jockey Tomizawa advised that after beginning well he obtained a forward position on APPROPRIATION, however when ROOMS ON FIRE improved forward of his mount near the 700m, his mount was unable to quicken with that horse and was immediately off the bit for the remainder of the race, proving disappointing. Stable representative Mr Wallace reported that on returning to the stables APPROPRIATION was found to have bled from both nostrils. APPROPRIATION will now be ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.
Race 4: XXXX GOLD CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1200M
HI MACKAY (S. Bogenhuber), which was slow to begin, was further hampered shortly after the start when steadied from the heels of ZOUNITE (D. Hayse). As a result, HI MACKAY raced further back in the field than anticipated.
GULLY COMMAND (J. Orman) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 900m HI MACKAY was forced to check after improving to the inside of JUNCTION SPUR (M. McGillivray), which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice McGillivray was reprimanded.
Stewards questioned jockey Bogenhuber and Trainer M Nolan in relation to the disappointing performance of HI MACKAY. Jockey Bogenhuber advised Stewards that it was her intention to ride HI MACKAY in a forward position, customary with its racing pattern, however if possible to ride the horse with cover. Jockey Bogenhuber added that HI MACKAY began very awkwardly and lost ground at the start and as a result was forced to race further back in the field than anticipated. She went on to say that approaching the 900m she was forced to check her mount when crowded by another runner. Jockey Bogenhuber said that despite this the filly travelled comfortably during the middle stages of the event, however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to respond to her riding and proved very disappointing. Trainer M Nolan reported to Stewards that in the days following this run the horse pulled up well without any abnormalities detected. Mr. Nolan added that HI MACKAY is a free running horse and after be slow to begin was not suited to being ridden behind horses, where it was forced to be steadied on a number of occasions which he believed was the major contributing factor of the poor performance. Mr. Nolan added that based on the manner in which the horse recovered following this run, that it is his intention to continue with the current preparation of HI MACKAY. A post-race veterinary examination of HI MACKAY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: FUNCTIONS @ TTC QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M
The start of this race was delayed when the outside rail at the crossing required remedial attention and when STRONG BLACK (S. Bogenhuber) proved difficult to load.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, apprentice J. Orman, the rider of 5th placegetter LUCKY DUCKY, and apprentice M. McGillivray, the rider of 4th placegetter MACGYVER, viewed the Stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether they had grounds on which to lodge an objection. After viewing the videos apprentice Orman indicated that he did not wish to lodge an objection, however apprentice McGillivray lodged an objection against BAY ENZO (B. Stower) being declared 3rd, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards found that near the 100m MACGYVER had established running between BIDZIIL (D. Carrigg) and BAY ENZO and that shortly after, BIDZIIL shifted out, making contact with MACGYVER, and a short distance later BAY ENZO shifted in, further tightening the running of MACGYVER. As Stewards were of the view that the interference suffered to MACGYVER was unable to be solely attributed to BAY ENZO, they dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
LADY’S GATHERING (C. Spry) was tightened for room at the start and lost ground.
Near the 900m BORN TO RUN EASY (C. Schmidt) was tightened for room and checked when racing between SLUGSBROTHERTURBO (B. Ainsworth), which shifted out after making contact with the running rail, and BIDZIIL, which shifted in and away from BAY ENZO, which maintained a tight racing line to the outside of that horse. Apprentice Stower, the rider of BAY ENZO, was reminded of her obligations with respect to providing sufficient racing room to runners to her inside.
Leaving the 900m LUCKY DUCKY raced ungenerously and threw its head in the air whilst being restrained.
R. Goltz, the rider of ART SHOW, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 750m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BORN TO RUN EASY (C. Schmidt), resulting in that runner being taken in and tightening the running of LUCKY DUCKY (J. Orman), resulting in that runner having to be checked. R. Goltz’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday 12 July and expire at midnight on Wednesday 23 July 2014. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account jockey Goltz’s good race riding record regarding this rule.
BAY ENZO and MACGYVER raced wide for the majority of the event.
ART SHOW (R. Goltz) raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 600m.
BORN TO RUN EASY was momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
STRONG BLACK (S. Bogenhuber) laid out rounding the home turn.
A post-race veterinary examination of ART SHOW (R. Goltz) revealed that the filly had bled from both nostrils. Trainer J. Thomas was advised that as this was the second occasion on which ART SHOW has bled, it will now incur a mandatory lifetime ban from racing.
Race 6: TYRRELL’S WINES CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1050M
As a result of the delay to the start of Race 5 and the determination of the protest hearing, the start of this race was also delayed.
RUSTIC PLAY (E. Ljung) began awkwardly.
B. Evans, the rider of JEB’S BOY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 850m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of RUSTIC PLAY, GALWAY TOWN (B. Stower) and PARADISE PINK (N. Tomizawa), resulting in those runners being tightened for room and GALWAY TOWN and PARADISE PINK having to be checked. Jockey Evans’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday 19 July 2014 and expire at midnight on Wednesday 30 July 2014.
DAYTIME HERO (A. Fancourt) raced wide for the majority of the event.
DAYTIME HERO hung out rounding the home turn.
JUST A CRACKER (N. Yamada) hung in from the 600m and proved difficult to ride out in the home straight.
Jockey B. Evans reported to Stewards that JEB’S BOY, after obtaining a leading position, travelled comfortably, however when placed under pressure from the 500m failed to respond to his riding in the home straight. Jockey Evans added that in his opinion JEB’S BOY will derive significant fitness benefit following today’s run. The veterinary surgeon reported that JEB’S BOY was galloped on on the off hind leg. Connections will be advised that they will be required to obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness for JEB’S BOY prior to it racing again.
A post-race veterinary examination of GALWAY TOWN revealed no abnormalities.
Race 7: 102.7FM MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M
The start of this race was delayed to hold for an interstate event.
When the gates were released COOL CHOICE (S. Bogenhuber) refused to leave the barriers and took no part in the event. Trainer S. Iverson was advised that COOL CHOICE must perform satisfactorily in two barrier trials prior to it racing again.
Shortly after the start ROCKTOBER (N. Yamada) shifted in and bumped WHYDOTHISTOME (J. Letherby).
FRATERNITY GIRL (E. Ljung) and THE BETTER HARV (B. Stower) both raced wide throughout.
THE BETTER HARV hung out for the majority of the event.
ROCKTOBER laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Stewards will interview trainer G. Seabrook at a later date in relation to the performance of WHYDOTHISTOME, which tailed off.
On returning to scale jockey R. Goltz advised that AUBREY’S ACE was slow to begin and as a result settled further back in the field than he had anticipated.
