GENERAL

As S. Apthorpe was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1050M

Stewards accepted trainer D. Gollan’s explanation for failing to declare apprentice T. Brooker as the rider of SANTA FE DREAMING by the prescribed time.

The race book inadvertently displayed apprentice T. Brooker (SANTA FE DREAMING) as claiming 2kg when her claim was 3kg. A public announcement was made to this effect.

As Bradley Appo failed to arrive on course by the required time, Stewards permitted apprentice R. Vigar to replace him as the rider of HARDA FASTA WONGA when no other senior rider was available. Jockey Appo was fined $100.

DHARAVI – When questioned, apprentice E. Ljung advised Stewards that after beginning well she rode her mount along to obtain a forward position, however as she was unable to cross runners to her inside, she was forced to race three wide throughout the event. Apprentice Ljung added that despite this she had expected the gelding to still run on in the home straight, however when placed under pressure from the 600m, the gelding commenced to hang out and proved disappointing in the run to the finish.

GOLD PAN – When questioned, apprentice B. Stower advised that it was her intention to lead in tonight’s event if possible as per the horse’s customary racing pattern, however after runners drawn to her inside showed significant speed, she was unable to cross them so she elected to restrain and take a position further back in the field than she had anticipated.

JEB’S BOY – Forced to steady near the 150m when brushed by another runner.

LA CHATEAU – Stood flat-footed at the start, lost considerable ground. Trainer P. Facoory was advised that he will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate for LA CHATEAU prior to its next start.

HARDA FASTA WONGA – Bled both nostrils, 1st time. Ineligible to race for 3 months and must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward before starting again.

Race 2: TYRRELL’S WINES CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1050M

CRAIGLEA MASTA – Shifted ground shortly after the start and bumped another runner.

AASHIQ – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Forced to steady near the 150m and shift to the outside of the heels of INNER BLU, which shifted in marginally.

EMBRAER – Shifted ground shortly after the start and bumped another runner.

THIS IS WAR – Slow to begin. Brushed with another runner on a number of occasions in the early stages of the home straight.

ZIPPITY JET – Slow to begin.

VICE OR VIRTUE – Brushed with another runner on a number of occasions in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 3: WIMMERS PREMIUM SOFT DRINKS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1625M

JACOBUS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight and shifted very wide.

STORM PELOTARI – Held up from the 500m until the early stages of the home straight.

FIERY GIRL – Slow to begin. Rider S. Bogenhuber was questioned in relation to her tactics and the horse’s overall performance. She advised that after being slow to begin she allowed FIERY GIRL to stride forward in the early stages in an endeavour to obtain a forward position as per the pre-race instructions of trainer B. Currie. Jockey Bogenhuber added that after passing the 1300m she obtained a position one off the fence trailing WICKED BABE, however as FIERY GIRL was racing keenly during the middle stages of the race, she allowed it to stride forward near the 1100m in an attempt to obtain the leading position. However, at this point of the race, ROMAN SILVER maintained the leading position to her inside and as a result she was unable to cross this runner. Jockey Bogenhuber added that after passing the 800m she endeavoured to restrain FIERY GIRL to a position a half length off the leader, but this proved difficult as her mount was racing keenly and also hanging in. With respect to the overall performance of FIERY GIRL, jockey Bogenhuber said that despite the manner in which the horse raced, she still felt that the mare was disappointing tonight as it commenced to weaken some 500m from the finish of the event. Trainer B. Currie advised that following the horse’s disappointing performance tonight, FIERY GIRL will be spelled. A post-race veterinary examination of FIERY GIRL revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: CHANNEL 7 CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1300M

PUFF’S GIRL – Saddle shifted forward near the 1200m, placing the rider at a significant disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

AMERICAN WEST – Forced to steady to avoid heels approaching the 1100m, shifted wider on the track.

WOMEN BE SHOPPING – N. Tomizawa reported at scale that the horse enjoyed a nice run throughout the event just behind the speed, however when placed under pressure from the 600m the mare failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. He added that in his opinion the mare may not have been suited by the quick back-up following last week’s event.

GOLD RECORD – Forced wider on the track approaching the 1100m.

N. Evans (SHINZIGZAG) was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.

Race 5: BECOME A TTC MEMBER MAIDEN H'CAP – 1300M

LUCKY DUCKY – Threw its head in the air leaving the 1100m and raced ungenerously for a short distance whilst being restrained.

WAKE UP WALLY – Apprentice R. Ride reported that her saddle shifted forward shortly after the start, placing her at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

Race 6: TTC RACING AWARDS 13TH SEPTEMBER MAIDEN H'CAP – 1625M

ROCKITELLIE was a late scratching at 5.05 pm on veterinary advice. Trainer J. Smith was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for ROCKITELLIE prior to its next start.

PRINT OUT – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

VEGAS CLUB – Forced to steady to avoid heels near the 800m.

MARMOLEJO – Forced to ease from the heels of AUBREY’S ACE near the 550m. Jockey T. Banks (AUBREY’S ACE) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

RHYTHM OF LIFE - Stewards questioned rider S. Bogenhuber in respective of her tactics from the 800m. Jockey Bogenhuber advised that during the middle stages of the event her mount had a tendency to race keenly and therefore when the pace of the race steadied near the 800m she was of the view that she may be able to quickly improve around the field to obtain a position near the lead, however after committing to shift to the outside, AUBREY’S ACE also shifted out, forcing her very wide on the track at that point. After reviewing the patrol films, Stewards advised jockey Bogenhuber that in their opinion she had erred in not attempting to allow AUBREY’S ACE to stride forward of her at that point, which would have enabled her to obtain cover behind that horse to improve in to the race. Stewards were not, however, satisfied that her riding had fallen below the required standards in the circumstances and therefore took no direct action.

AUBREY’S ACE – Stewards questioned rider T. Banks in respective of his tactics from the 800m. Jockey Banks advised that during the middle stages of the event his mount raced keenly and near the 800m the pace of the race steadied so he elected to shift wider on the track at that point of the race to improve. Of concern to Stewards was whether there was an opportunity for him to maintain a trailing position one off the fence behind MARMOLEJO at that point rather than continuing to go forward wider on the track. After viewing the patrol film, jockey Banks agreed with the view of the Stewards that he erred at that point of the race in not attempting to maintain the position behind MARMOLEJO, which would have afforded him a better run. Stewards were not, however, satisfied that his riding had fallen below the required standards in the circumstances and therefore took no direct action.
