Race 1: BROOKSTEAD HOTEL CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1300M
Trainer K. Kemp was fined $100 for the late declaration of K. Yoshida as the rider of JACK BE QUICK.
As apprentice N. Nishio failed to fulfil his engagement on ROCKLEA RAIDER, apprentice E. Ljung was substituted as the rider of that gelding. Apprentice Nishio was fined $100.
HOT TESTA – Jumped very awkwardly and refused to take any competitive part in the event. Trainer B. Currie’s representative was advised that the gelding would be required to compete in a barrier trial before next racing.
DOING OUR BEST – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
GENERAL SON – When questioned as to the horse’s disappointing performance, jockey Bogenhuber advised that she was able to obtain a good position on the rail just behind the pace where the gelding travelled comfortably throughout the event. She further advised that near the 400m she attempted to improve into a run to the inside of JACK BE QUICK, however GENERAL SON was reluctant to improve into this run and from that point travelled only fairly for the remainder of the event. Jockey Bogenhuber added that in her opinion GENERAL SON may be better suited racing on firmer tracks than that of tonight. Trainer D. Gollan also expressed disappointment with the performance tonight, however agreed with the view of jockey Bogenhuber that the horse was not suited on the prevailing track conditions.
JACK BE QUICK – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a forward position and may even lead tonight. The horse was ridden accordingly. Laid out for the majority of the event.
Race 2: RAFF FAMILY CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1100M
I SMARTICUS was a late scratching at 11.50 am for veterinary reasons.
After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, apprentice E. Ljung, the rider, and D. Baker, the trainer of SMOOTH TALKER, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against ELIAZAR being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the video, Stewards established that approaching the 50m SMOOTH TALKER established a run to the inside of ELIAZAR to improve into that position and over the concluding stages ELIAZAR shifted in, restricting the room of SMOOTH TALKER, which resulted in apprentice Ljung being forced to alter her whip action and being unable to fully test her mount to the line. In the circumstances, Stewards believed that the extent of the interference suffered by SMOOTH TALKER exceeded the nose margin separating both horses at the finish and therefore upheld the protest and declared correct weight on the amended placings of 1, 3, 2 and 7.
COVER UP – Began awkwardly. Made contact with the running rail near the 600m and became unbalanced.
LASERJACK – Raced wide throughout.
Race 3: RAY WHITE PITTSWORTH CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1050M

SANTA FE DREAMING – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
KATHERINE GORGE – Connections advised that from an inside barrier the horse would be ridden aggressively in the early stages to take up a leading position if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly. On return to scale jockey R. Goltz reported that he could offer no explanation for the mare’s disappointing performance tonight.
YARRUM – Rider accidentally dropped his whip in the home straight.
N. Tomizawa (UNIQUE MISTIQUE) was fined $100 for failing to weigh in for 4th.
Race 4: ELSDEN FARMS/HARRIS ELECTRICAL BM70 H'CAP – 2150M

The start of this race was delayed to allow the broadcast of an interstate event.
WIND WAND – Momentarily held up at the heels of a tiring runner rounding the home turn.
MAY NELLY – Stewards questioned apprentice B. Stower in relation to the tactics she adopted on MAY NELLY tonight whereby the mare settled further back in the field than anticipated, and furthermore as to her riding of that horse from the 600m. Apprentice Stower advised that she was instructed to ride MAY NELLY where it was comfortable in the early stages, and after being inconvenienced shortly after the start, she was forced to steady and as a result settled at the tail of the field. With respect to her tactics from the 600m, apprentice Stower advised that she obtained a trailing position behind WIND WAND, which was a favoured runner in the event and therefore she was happy to attempt to follow that runner into the race rather than shift wider on the track. She added that when WIND WAND failed to quicken as he had initially expected, she shifted out to obtain clear running, however was held up at the heels of the tiring JACOBUS. Apprentice Stower advised that after straightening she was able to shift back to the inside of that runner and had an uninterrupted run over the concluding stages of the event. Stewards advised apprentice Stower that in their opinion, given the established racing pattern of MAY NELLY, it would have been more advantageous for her to place MAY NELLY under pressure in the early stages, which would have resulted in her racing in a more forward position, which would have given her a better run throughout the event. With respect to her riding from the 600m, Stewards, whilst noting the explanation of apprentice Stower, felt that she had erred in her riding in not attempting to shift wider on the track to improve into the race, which would have afforded her clear running rather than being held up at a crucial stage of the race. Stewards, taking into account all relevant factors, did not feel that apprentice Stower’s riding had fallen below the required standard and therefore took no further action other than to refer this ride to Racing Queensland’s apprentice training department for their tutelage.
BILLABONG BIRD – Made contact with another runner on a number of occasions in the early stages of the event. Jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that after beginning well she allowed BILLABONG BIRD to stride forward in the early stages without having to overly pressure the mare and as a result settled in a more forward position than she had anticipated.
JACOBUS – Made contact with another runner on a number of occasions in the early stages of the event. After being caught wide in the early stages of the event, rider allowed the gelding, which was racing keenly, to stride forward and assume the position outside the leader leaving the 1200m.
Race 5: VANDERFIELD PTY LTD QTIS 3YO FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M
ANGEL OF LIBERTY was a late scratching at 9.15 am for veterinary reasons.
As apprentice M. McGuren was stood down after riding at Doomben, apprentice B. Appo was substituted as the rider of FATBILL.

ALI MOUNTAIN – Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
OUTBACK CLAN – Jockey R. Goltz could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than that the horse may not have been suited on the shifting track surface.
FIBRO – Forced to restrain when racing in restricted room near the 900m to the inside of ALI MOUNTAIN. Apprentice J. Greacen (ALI MOUNTAIN) was advised to exercise more care.
KODO – Accidentally struck on the nose by the whip of another rider near the 350m.
LITTLE BLUE – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer H. Dunne was advised that LITTLE BLUE will be required to obtain two further barrier certificates prior to next racing, one of which must be in an official barrier trial.
