Race 1: Clipsal – Schneider Maiden H'cap – 1200m

MORE MUSIC – Declared a late scratching at 7.45 am by order of the stewards when trainer M. Nolan confirmed that the mare had injured itself in its stable and was unfit to start.

DR LEWICKI – Obliged to race wide throughout.

MISS SNOWSILL – Apprentice F. Elliott was reprimanded for failing to weigh in as the 5th placegetter.


Race 2: Hager Benchmark 70 H'cap – 1200m

STREET SISTER – Laid in for the majority of the race. When questioned regarding the performance of the horse which weakened in the home straight, Jockey K. Yoshida stated that the mare had a tendency to lay in throughout and was under pressure from the 400m and failed to respond to his riding from that point. He added his mount was first up from a long spell and did not handle the prevailing track conditions, adding that he felt the horse was short in its action from approaching the home turn. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards will contact trainer L. Bryant in the following days regarding the performance.

VICE OR VIRTUE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

TISANI STAR – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

GLENAROUA – Steadied near the 800m.

BY THE BY – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

HI HI – Raced wide in the early stages.


Race 3: Vinidex Ratings Band 0-62 H'cap – 1625m

The start of this race was delayed when the bridle on RUN JAKE RUN had to be readjusted.

OUTBACK PRIDE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and subsequently passed to start after kicking the enclosure fence.

RUN JAKE RUN – Tightened for room leaving the 1500m. Laid out rounding the home turn. When questioned, apprentice F. Elliott stated it was the intention to ride her mount back with cover, however after being caught extremely wide shortly after the start, she allowed her mount to stride forward and obtain the lead near the 1200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer G. Cornish was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the horse prior to its next race start.

WARP NINE – Tightened for room leaving the 1500m. Commenced to overrace for a short distance leaving the 1300m and then was forced to shift wider on the track near the 1100m when HIP TO BE SQUARE shifted out.

KING’S SHILLING – Held up for clear running from the 500m until entering the home straight.

UP AND ABLAZE – Tightened for room and forced to ease approaching the 1500m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, and near the 100m the rider momentarily dropped the nearside rein.

CARLSON’S FELT – Shifted in when insufficiently clear approaching the 1500m causing tightening. Rider B. Appo was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

HIP TO BE SQUARE – Steadied from heels near the 1150m.


Race 4: Samios/CNW Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1625m

ELLIE LA VIE – Raced wide from shortly after the start before being allowed to stride forward and obtain a position closer to the rail approaching the 1000m.

TISANI BOY – Overraced for a short distance from the 1200m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding his mount settling back in the field, which was in contrast to its most recent racing pattern, rider B Evans stated it was his intention to race in a forward position possibly with cover, however when his mount failed to show any early speed he was caught extremely wide on the track and as a result elected to restrain and obtain cover rather than be caught wide. Stewards noted the explanation.

TEA TATTLE – Rider E. Ljung reported her saddle shifted forward shortly after the start as she went to ease her mount and as a result the horse commenced to overrace. She added that due to the saddle slipping she was placed at a significant disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

GENTLE GIANT – Began awkwardly.

KID TYCOON – Bumped approaching the 1500m and became unbalanced.

HARDMAN HARRY – Slow to begin. Made contact with the running rail near the 900m. Held up behind the tiring TEA TATTLE and was unable to improve from the 550m until approaching the home turn. Steadied when crowded for room rounding the home turn.

BEAU BOY - Bumped approaching the 1500m. Obliged to race wide throughout.


Race 5: Kembla Class 1 H'cap – 1300m

FEYTALISTIC – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Rider momentarily dropped the offside rein approaching the home turn.

IDAHLIA – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out in the home straight. Apprentice E. Ljung reported that her mount travelled well until put under pressure near the 500m however failed to respond to her riding. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

CANID – Forced to ease when tightened for room near the 900m when IDAHLIA shifted in. E. Ljung, rider of IDAHLIA, was severely reprimanded for permitting her mount to shift in. Laid out rounding the home turn and continued to lay out under pressure in the run to the finish.

PRECIOUS DRAGON – When questioned regarding the horse leading in today’s race, apprentice B. Stower stated that her instructions were to race where comfortable as the mare was first up from a spell. She added that her mount began on equal terms with a number of runners to her inside and rather than being caught wide she pressured her mount and was able to obtain the leading position comfortably.


Race 6: Iplex Class 2 H'cap – 1000m

COSTA LOTSA – Raced wide in the early stages.

COME ON LU LU – Laid out rounding the home turn. Apprentice E. Ljung reported that the mare obtained the lead comfortably however proved difficult to settle which in her opinion resulted in her mount not finishing the race off. She added that the trainer had indicated that she would look to drop COME ON LU LU back in distance in an attempt to get the mare to settle.

L’UCCELLO ROSSO – Steadied when disappointed for a run near the 200m and then shifted out to obtain clear running approaching the 100m.
