ESTEVEZ – Raced wide throughout.
Race 2: Lion Nathan Class 2 H'cap – 1100m
OUTBACK LIGHTNING – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. Stewards questioned rider B. Newport in relation to the tactics adopted on the horse today whereby after being slow to begin he rode his mount forward during the early stages of the event, resulting in him racing wide for the duration. He advised that he was instructed to position the gelding in a forward position and after being slow to begin in an endeavour to comply with these instructions he rode vigorously in the early stages. However this resulted in him being caught wide throughout. Stewards advised B. Newport that, in their opinion, after being slow to begin it would have been more advantageous for him to settle his mount in a rearward position which would have afforded him cover and given him a better opportunity to finish the race off over the concluding stages of the event. However bearing in mind apprentice Newport’s relative inexperience riding at provincial areas, took the matter no further.
AL ALMGHTY – Bumped heavily at the start and became unbalanced.
HANDFUL OF SILVER – Bumped heavily at the start and became unbalanced. Tightened for room rounding the home turn.
CHANTILLY MISS – Bumped on jumping away and lost ground. Rider R. Vigar reported to stewards his mount raced somewhat flat today and settled further back in the field than he had anticipated. He added that the mare never travelled strongly on the bit throughout and proved disappointing.

EXCELLENT STYLE – Raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Neil Mansell Concrete Class 1 H'cap – 1625m
MINACTA – After being caught wide in the early stages, rider S. Bogenhuber allowed her mount to stride forward and assumed a position outside the leader leaving the 1000m.
GETTING’JIGGYWITHIT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
BLUE JEST – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages of the event. Held up from leaving the 500m until the early stages of the home straight. ,
JETTING TO LONDON – Hung in in the middle stages. Apprentice E. Ljung was questioned regarding the performance of the horse. She advised that after beginning well she obtained a favourable position, however when the pace of the race steadied during the middle stages she stated the mare got shuffled back further in the field than anticipated. Apprentice Ljung added that passing the 700m when trailing UNIQUE MISTIQUE, the eventual winner, she was unable to quicken with this runner at this point of the race as she would have liked, however in the home straight the mare did run on well. She went on to add that, in her opinion, at this stage of its preparation JETTING TO LONDON is looking for races over greater distances than that of tonight’s event. Trainer R. Lipp agreed with apprentice Ljung that the mare was looking for further distance than tonight’s event and would endeavour to step the horse up in distance at its next race start if possible.
Race 4: Tattsgroup QTIS 3yo Class 2 H'cap – 1050m
KILGHARRAH – Made contact on jumping away. When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that after beginning well she obtained a forward position however was forced to do some work to cross in the early stages due to the fast tempo of this race. She added the gelding travelled reasonably during the middle stages however when placed under pressure from the 450m, failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. S. Bogenhuber further advised, in her opinion, that on return to scale the horse appeared to be sore in near hind leg. A post race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near hind leg. Trainer P. Sexton was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.
CHOC MOUNTAIN – Made contact on jumping away. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
RAMBLIN’ DAISY – Laid out rounding the home turn and shifted wider on the track.
FAN THE FIRE – Trainer E. Hayes expressed disappointment with the performance tonight, however, in his opinion, the filly raced somewhat flat given that it was racing second up tonight from a spell.
Race 5: Vanderfield Maiden H'cap – 1050m
RAZZLING DAZZLER – Trainer K. Kemp was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for the horse by the prescribed time.

Race 6: The Toowoomba BMW Cup Benchmark 80 H'cap – 1625m
MAY NELLY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Stewards questioned apprentice B. Newport as to the reason why his mount shifted out rounding the home turn when racing on the fence, which afforded EQUISSENTIAL, the eventual winner, clear running to his inside. Apprentice Newport advised that whilst rounding the home turn when riding his mount along, the mare had a tendency to shift out under pressure, however as he felt the going wider on the track was superior he was not concerned that his mount shifted wider at this point of the race. Stewards whilst noting his explanation, advised apprentice Newport, in their opinion, he should have made greater effort to maintain his position on the rail at this critical point of the race, which would have forced EQUISSENTIAL to shift wider on the track to improve rather than improve to his inside as it did on this occasion. Stewards however were not of the view that his riding had fallen below the required standard and therefore took the matter no further.
TEA TATTLE – Slow to begin.
Race 7: Strathayr Ratings Band 0-62 H'cap – 2150m
COUNT ROMANO – Tightened for room at the start.
