SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

Toowoomba Turf Club – Saturday 29th August, 2009 - Race 6 – Stewards questioned trainer M Reynolds (BLASKO) as to the reason why his horse was a late scratching at 7.33 p.m. on the night of August 29, 2009 due to the fact that the horse failed to appear on course by the appointed time. Stewards after opening an inquiry will refer the matter to the Integrity Services Manager due to the fact Mr Reynolds left the Stewards room and when directed to return refused to do so.




From Toowoomba Turf Club – Saturday 5th September, 2009 – Race 5. Jockey S Drake (PURE ACT) was found guilty of contravening AR137A(5) for the number of times the whip was used in consecutive strides. Jockey Drake was fined the riding fee of $143 and suspended from riding in races for the period of 4 meetings commencing midnight September 13, 2009 up to and including midnight September 19, 2009.

Stewards opened an inquiry into a complaint lodged by trainer P Nolan on behalf of stablehand J Clancy .Stewards after taking evidence from all parties involved took no action as the complaint could not be substantiated.



Jockey S Drake (MAXIMISS) reprimanded for contravening AR137A(5) for the number of times the whip used in consecutive strides.

Race 1: HOLMES SMASH REPAIRS CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 850M.
1st – Haylergal 2nd – Single Bound 3rd – Bannett 4th – Best Of Ceedee

Stewards questioned trainer L Hyson (BIANCA ROSE – race 1 and PALACE COUP – Race 3) as to the reason for the late declaration of riders. After taking a statement trainer L Hyson was fined $100 under LR70.

At the start POISON HONEY (S Apthorpe) and BASE DANCER (P Wolfgram) were both slowly away.

Shortly after the start SINGLE BOUND (A Best) shifted out taking BANNETT (A Taylor) out onto HAYLERGAL (J Brown).

BEST OF CEEDEE (R Goltz) was held up for clear running for a short distance leaving the 400m.

GALLANT PILOT (J Letherby) wanted to lay in over the concluding stages of the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of POISON HONEY jockey S Apthorpe stated the mare could not muster any early speed and as the horse had previously raced interstate over longer distances felt the shorter distance today did not suit and would be better placed over a longer journey. Stewards noted the comments
Apprentice J Brown (HAYLERGAL) was reminded of the requirements regarding her whip technique under AR137A(4)(b).

Race 2: McNAB CONSTRUCTIONS CLASS 6 PLATE – 1625M.
1st – Three Tenors 2nd – Rattle ‘N’ Run 3rd – Kinsmate 4th – Come Said The Boy

At the start LEGAL MISS (R Goltz) and THREE TENORS (S Apthorpe) were both slowly away.

Both RATTLE ‘N’ RUN (K Banks) and MR MAYFAIR (P Wolfgram) jumped away awkwardly.

THREE TENORS (S Apthorpe) raced keenly in the early stages of the race.

DON VITO (A Best) which was racing keenly hung out at the 1300m taking MR MAYFAIR (P Wolfgram) wider on the track.

Over the final 150m KINSMATE (G Geran) was placed in restricted room when racing to the inside of RATTLE ‘N’ RUN (K Banks) and just on the line had to be steadied from the heels of RATTLE ‘N’ RUN which shifted in.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of COME SAID THE BOY jockey K Yoshida stated that the horse had an easy run however the horse would not come back under him and settle during the middle stages of the race and further stated the horse only went to the line fairly and felt the 1600m is beyond the horses capacity at this point of his career. Stewards noted the comments.

Race 3: AEROTEC FLIGHT TRAINING COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1000M.
1st – Palace Coup 2nd – Cawdor Tony 3rd – Sheldon 4th – Once More Brother

At the start HAYIL’N CHALLENGE (P Wolfgram) jumped out making contact with ROCK’N BILLY REBEL (J Letherby).

SHELDON (A Best) was slowly away.

Leaving the 800m HEZA OUTLAW (R Goltz) which was over racing shifted out taking TORYMEMAN (S Apthorpe) wider on the track.

Leaving the 600m ONCE MORE BROTHER (N Tomizawa) shifted out away from the heels of CAWDOR TONY (G Geran) which shifted out away from the heels of SHELDON (A Best) and in doing so came into contact with HEZA OUTLAW (R Goltz) which was taken out making contact with TORYMEMAN (S Apthorpe). Jockey G Geran (CAWDOR TONY) was reprimanded for shifting ground when insufficiently clear under AR137.

CANADIAN CHIEF (A Merritt) raced ungenerously throughout and leaving the 600m commenced to lay out and rounding the home turn got its head in the air and hung out across the heels of HAYIL’N CHALLENGE (P Wolfgram) and became unbalanced for some distance.

Race 4: ROBERTS MENSWEAR FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 HCP – 1000M.
1st – Diasco 2nd – Just A Glamour 3rd – Getamoveon 4th – Avant Rapide

Shortly after the start LADY HEMINGWAY (K Banks) and POPRAN (A Best) were tightened for room between JUST A GLAMOUR (N Tomizawa) and OPTIMIST PRIME (S Apthorpe) which shifted out.

AVANT RAPIDE (A Taylor) made the home turn wide.

JUST A GLAMOUR (N Tomizawa) hung in over the concluding stages of the race and as a result the rider was unable to fully test his mount to the line.

DIASCO (J Letherby) raced wide throughout.

Stewards admonished trainer D Lowe (HAY ANNIE) for his failure to comply with a direction from the Clerk of The Course to bring his horse into the parade area prior to the running of the race.

Race 5: HARVEY WORLD TRAVEL MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M.
1st – Legally Proud 2nd - Hussonite 3rd – Espionage 4th – Macs Folly

CORE MAGIC was withdrawn by order of Stewards at 6.25 p.m. acting on Veterinary advice. Trainer B Keenan was advised a Veterinary Certificate is required for the gelding prior to next racing.

At the start SARGENTA (N Tomizawa) was slowly away.

Leaving the 800m ELOPE (P Wolfgram) rolled in taking Hussonite inwards resulting in that horse being momentarily steadied.

Leaving the 600m CERULEAN BLUE (J Brown) shifted out making contact with ELOPE (P Wolfgram).

Rounding the home turn HUSSONITE (R Goltz) when racing in restricted room to the inside of ELOPE (P Wolfgram) was momentarily held up for clear running. Shortly after this HUSSONITE then moved out making contact with ELOPE.


Apprentice J Brown (CERULEAN BLUE) was reprimanded under AR83(a) for her conduct on the way to the barrier.

Race 6: BETTER BLEND STOCKFEEDS CLASS 3 PLATE - 1300M.
1st –Nobbys Mate 2nd – Seeyou Seeyou 3rd – Bumper Harvest 4th - Maximiss

At the start MAXIMISS (S Drake) was slow away.

Shortly after the start NOBBYS MATE (A Best) shifted out onto the heels of SEEYOU SEEYOU (J Letherby).

In the vicinity of the 800m mark SEEYOU SEEYOU (J Letherby) improved to the inside of the heels of MAXIMISS (S Drake). Leaving the 600m SEEYOU SEEYOU again improved to the inside of the heels of MAXIMISS and had to be steadied.

Leaving the 400m SEEYOU SEEYOU (J Letherby) raced wide rounding the home turn.

Jockey S Drake (MAXIMISS) was reprimanded for contravening AR137A(5) for the number of times the whip used in consecutive strides.

Race 7: PLANETARY GEOPHYSICS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1300M.
1st – Dark Night 2nd – Moon Hunter 3rd – Thrillseeker 4th - Matalan

THRILLSEEKER (N Tomizawa) was slowly away.

At the start ITALA PRINCE (A Merritt) jumped away awkwardly.

MATALAN (R Goltz) and PRINCE YUKON (A Taylor) make heavy contact on jumping away. MATALAN then shifted out making heavy contact with TWOGUNDAN (J Brown) resulting in MATALAN losing ground when clipping heels and blundering.

At approximately the 1100m AMBUSHED(K Banks) has shifting in causing TWOGUNDAN (J Brown) to be taken in resulting in VOLUNTARY (G Geran) being tightened for room and loosing ground. VOLUNTARTY then raced greenly for some distance. In this incident Jockey K Banks was reprimanded (AR137(a) ) for allowing her mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear .

MOON HUNTER (J Kehoe) raced wide in the early and middle stages of the race.

MOON HUNTER (J Kehoe) shifted ground whilst under pressure over the concluding stages of the race.

Leaving the 150m RUN JAKE RUN (S Drake) was disappointed for a run to the inside of UNIVERSAL HAT (S Apthorpe) then shifted out to obtain clear running.
