Race 1: Magic Millions Home of Champions Class 2 H'cap – 2100m
1st – Son Of Zaha 2nd – Ace In The Hole 3rd – Coral Flight 4th - Slepner
FAMOUS FORTUNE (M. Wood), RICH BLUE DANE (M. Milford) and ACE IN THE HOLE (R. Goltz) were slow to begin.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, MULSANNE (G. Geran) commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of SON OF ZAHA (P. Wolfgram). HUNKA BURNIN’ LOVE (M. Morris), which was following, struck the heels of MULSANNE and blundered. A short distance later, HUNKA BURNIN’ LOVE shifted out across the heels of CORAL FLIGHT (S. Katsidis). HUNKA BURNIN’ LOVE then shifted back in, resulting in both RICH BLUE DANE and FAMOUS FORTUNE being tightened for room.
MULSANNE continued to overrace and near the 1500m shifted out, resulting in CORAL FLIGHT being momentarily inconvenienced.
Approaching the 400m, ACE IN THE HOLE (R. Goltz) shifted out to improve, resulting in FAMOURS FORTUNE being taken wider on the track.
Apprentice M. Milford, rider of RICH BLUE DANE, was issued with a reprimand for his use of the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. M. Milford was also reprimanded for unnecessary use of the whip over the final 100m.
Apprentice M. Wood, rider of FAMOUS FORTUNE, which performanced below expectations, explained that the gelding did not travel well and when placed under pressure after passing the 800m, failed to resopnd to his riding. A post race veterinary examination of FAMOUS FORTUNE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
G. Geran, rider of MULSANNE, which performed poorly, explained that the mare had a favourable position with cover throughout, however when placed under pressure near the 700m, failed to respond to his riding. G. Geran added that, in his opinion, MULSANNE had a favourable position with cover throughout, however when placed under pressure near the 700m, failed to respond to his riding. G. Geran added that, in his opinion, MULSANNE, fails to run out a strong 2100m.
Race 2: XXXX Bitter Class 3 H'cap – 1625m
1st – Don’t Tell Daddy 2nd – Maximiss 3rd – Moringa’s King 4th – Raging Rastus
Upon arrival at the barriers, SEMI FINAL was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and found to have a minor laceration to the mouth, however the gelding was passed suitable to race.
RAGING RASTUS (P. Wolfgram) shifted out a short distance after the start, resulting in LANGTIME (S. Katsidis) and WORTHY QUEST (N. Tomizawa) being tightened for room.
MORINGA’S KING (G. Geran) overraced in the early stages and after passing the 1400m shifted out to avoid the heels of SEMI FINAL (J. Cook), resulting in both BORA BORA (A. Spinks) and MAXIMISS (J. Brown) being inconvenienced and taken wider on the track.
BORA BORA raced wide throughout.
Jockey N. Tomizawa, rider of WORTHY QUEST, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(4)(c) in that he used his whip on the gelding when, in the opinion of the stewards, it was clearly out of contention. N. Tomizawa was fined $200.
When questioned regarding this use of the whip rounding the home turn, G. Geran, rider of MORINGA’S KING, explained that his mount was inclined to hang in and as a result he elected to change his whip to the right hand in order to correct his mount. He added that when he did change the whip he may have struck the gelding higher on the neck than he had intended. Stewards advised G. Geran to show greater care when using his whip in similar circumstances in future.
J. Brown explained that she had been instructed to ride MAXIMISS midfield with cover. She further stated that approaching the first turn she was trapped wide and as the mare was racing without cover it commenced to race very ungenerously. J. Brown stated that rather than restrain MAXIMISS she considered that it was best to allow the mare to progress forward in an attempt to position it where it was comfortable.
BORA BORA lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 3: Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale Maiden H'cap – 1300m
1st – It’s Hayiling Men 2nd – Looks Like Deano 3rd – Two And A Half Men 4th - Hootilla
Trainer M. Jeynes advised stewards that it would be his intention to ride LOOKS LIKE DEANO more forward today due to the favourable barrier draw. This is in contrast to its most recent starts. Subsequently, LOOKS LIKE DEANO settled midfield.
BOOGEEMAC (S. Katsidis) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with VOLKALO (M. O'Brien). As a result, S. Katsidis, rider of BOOGEEMAC, became unbalanced in the saddle and was dislodged. Subsequent to the race, S. Katsidis was examined by the club’s doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
IBETHECAN (G. Geran) was slow to begin.
For some distance after passing the 1100m, LOOKS LIKE DEANO (R. Goltz) was restrained away from the heels of the riderless BOOGEEMAC and as a result lost ground. Then passing the 1000m, LOOKS LIKE DEANO shifted out and inconvenienced IBETHECAN.
Near the 800m, GOODY FOUR SHOES (P. Wolfgram) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the riderless BOOGEEMAC, which shifted out. Shortly after this incident, the riderless horse shifted out and struck the heels of STYLISH IMPULSE (A. Spinks).
Approaching the 700m, VOLKALO (M. O'Brien) was momentarily tightened for room by the riderless BOOGEEMAC
R. Goltz, rider of LOOKS LIKE DEANO was placed at some disadvantage for some distance after passing the 700m behind the riderless BOOGEEMAC.
Race 4: 7 Sunrise QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1200m
1st – Released 2nd – Canadian Joy 3rd – Chester’s Express 4th - Filip
REELBLU (M. Hellyer) was slow to begin.
BEENOBLE (J. Wood) hung out in the early and middles stages and also hung out approaching and rounding the home turn.
Race 5: www.magicmillions.com.au Class 4 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Jester Rumble 2nd – Diasco 3rd – Canadian Poppy 4th - Brujita
LIGER was declared a late scratching at 1.56 pm on veterinary advice after the horse sustained an injury when being loaded onto the float for transport to the course.
BLACK DAKOTA (N. Tomizawa) jumped very awkwardly and shifted out and bumped heavily with GALLOPING RHYMES (K. Ashton).
After being a little slow to begin, TITLE KING (M. Hellyer) was severely hampered shortly after the start by BRUJITA (P. Wolfgram), which shifted out abruptly.
After passing the 1000m, BRUJITA shifted in and bumped DIASCO (J. Letherby).
Stewards sought an explanation from R. Goltz, rider of CANADIAN POPPY, in relation to whether he had given consideration to shifting out around the heels of BLACK DAKOTA rounding the home turn when CANADIAN POPPY appeared to be travelling well. R. Goltz explained that it was his view that BLACK DAKOTA would take him into the race and he would be able to progress to its outside upon straightening. R. Goltz added that when it became apparent shortly after straightening that BLACK DAKOTA was under pressure, he elected to shift to the inside of that runner. Stewards accepted his explanation.
When asked to explain the performance of BLACK DAKOTA, which performed below expectations, N. Tomizawa stated that his mount did not travel comfortably at any stage, and when he shifted to a one-wide position after passing the 700m, BLACK DAKOTA was immediately under pressure and failed to respond to his riding. Trainer T. Sears was at a loss to explain the gelding’s performance and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to light that may have had a bearing on today’s race. He also indicated he may freshen the gelding up. A post race veterinary examination of BLACK DAKOTA failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Whe questioned regarding the riding tactics he adopted on BRUJITA, which settled outside the leader today, which was in contrast to its most recent starts, P. Wolfgram explained that he was instructed to ride the filly forward. Trainer N. Saunders confirmed the instructions and was subsequently reminded by stewards that he is required under the rules to report any change in riding tactics.
Race 6: Magic Millions 2yo Plate 1100m
1st – Tough Luck 2nd – Tycoon Cat 3rd – Mystic Dragon 4th – Leica Pulse
Shortly after entering the straight, NOELA’S ROMP (S. Bogenhuber), which was racing greenly, attempted to take a narrow run between LEICA PULSE (P. Wolfgram), which was inclined to lay in under pressure, and SUILIGH (R. Goltz), which shifted out. As a result, NOELA’S ROMP became awkward at the heels of SUILIGH for some distance before shifting wider on the track to improve.
Race 7: Southern Cross Ford Open H'cap – 1100m
1st – Vocalic 2nd – Myagi 3rd – Ima Joker 4th – What A Tale
DECIBELLA (B. Pengelly) jumped outwards at the start, taking IMA JOKER (K. Yoshida) out on to SHE’S ALL GREEK (A. Taylor), which had to be checked.
SEQUALLAN (J. Brown) was held up and unable to improve in the home straight until near the 100m, where the gelding obtained a run to the inside of IMA JOKER when that runner shifted out under pressure.
B. Pengelly, rider of DECIBELLA, which weakened over the final 200m, explained that the mare travelled well until placed under pressure in the straight at which stage it failed to respond to his riding. He added that DECIBELLA may not have backed up from its second placing at Eagle Farm on 21 November. Trainer T. Sears indicated that he may send the mare for a freshen up and reassess her current campaign.
G. Geran, rider of WHAT A TALE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that after passing the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of TELFIRE (J. Wood), which was tightened for room and hampered and taken in on to SHE’S ALL GREEK, which was tightened for room and had to be checked by its rider. G. Geran was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commenced at midnight,
Race 8: 1300Millions Class 1 H'cap – 1050m
1st – Tycoon’s Pride 2nd – Chief Cheron 3rd – Teeyora 4th – Zekeza
FILLE DE NEIGE was declared a late scratching at 10.38 am on veterinary advice when the mare was found to be exhibiting signs of soreness after being plated.
CHIEF CHERON, which was having its first start since 8 April 2008, was examined by the club’s veterinary and cleard to race.
TYCOON’S PRIDE had its off fore plate refitted by the farrier in the mounting enclosure.
EGYPTIAN JEWEL (G. Geran) and BELLAVONANE (S. Katsidis) were slow to begin.
CHIEF CHERON (R. Goltz) overraced in the early stages.
A. Taylor, rider of HER PIC, explained the the mare, which was a clear leader in the early stages, failed to respond to her riding after passing the 600m and weakened badly from that point. A. Taylor added that, in her opinion, HER PIC would benefit from today’s race.
B. Pengelly, rider of the 4th placegetter, was fined $200 for failing to weigh in 4th on ZEKEZA.
The veterinary surgeon reported that HER PIC had a slow recovery rate following the race.
