When questioned regarding the performance of SHELDON, jockey A. Best stated that it had been the stable’s intention to ride the horse back in the field today and, in his opinion, it had a tendency to overrace in the early stages due to being fresh for today’s race. He added that SHELDON laid in under pressure from the 400m and was of the opinion the horse would be suited to racing over more ground.
Race 2: Neil Mansell Transport Open H'cap – 1300m

Track temperature: 16 degrees celsius

FOOLISH (A. Best) and ROCKEM (K. Yoshida) were slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn, SHOT OF THE RAILS (B. Wallace) improved on to the heels of PROFESSOR (J. Letherby) and had to be steadied and shift out to avoid that horse’s heels.

HUSSONITE (M. Abe) was slow to begin.
JUDGE’S VERDICT (W. Clasohm) and DIAMOND ZAH (K. Yoshida) raced wide for the majority of the race.
When questioned regarding the performance of HUSSONITE, which performed below market expectations, jockey M. Abe stated that, in his opinion, the horse may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer P. Sexton advised that HUSSONITE would now be sent for a spell.
When questioned regarding the performance of DIAMOND ZAH, K. Yoshida stated that it had been his intention to ride the horse forward, however after riding the mare aggressively in the early stages it became apparent he was not going to be able to obtain a position close to the rail in a forward position and as a result he elected to take hold and attempt to secure a position closer to the fence behind runners. He was of the opinion that DIAMOND ZAH races better in a more forward position. K. Yoshida added that as the horse was having its first start back from a spell it may not have run out a strong 1300m. Trainer T. Sears confirmed the comments of K. Yoshida, stating that it would be his intention to ride the horse positively in a forward position next start. He also undertook to report to stewards should any abnormality come to light which may have had a bearing on the performance of DIAMOND ZAH. A post race veterinary examination of DIAMOND ZAH failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

AMPERES (K. Banks), SEMBELLA (B. Wallace) and LITTLE ROSIE (M. O'Brien) were slow to begin.
MAGIC TURBO (S. Richardson) overraced in the middle stages.
Leaving the 500m, PEAK PERFORMANCE (P. Wolfgram) was held up and had to be steadied from the heels of the tiring HEAVENSMAYFALL (N. Yamada).
MAGIC TURBO (S. Richardson), which was held up rounding the home turn, continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running until a point near the 200m where S. Richardson was obliged to steady when tightened for room between CLOSE RANGE (W. Clasohm) and TRIBUTE TO VALOUR (L. Cheshire), which laid in under pressure.
HEAVENSMAYFALL compounded badly in the straight and finish some distance from the main body of the field. Trainer P. Sexton was advised that HEAVENSMAYFALL would be barred from TAB meetings until the gelding’s form improves at non-TAB venues.

Shortly after the start, ANGEL WITHIN (B. Wallace) was tightened for room between PURITY (A. Best) and CROFTSIDE (N. Yamada), which shifted in.
Approaching the 500m, ANGELUS BELLE (P. Wolfgram) had to be steadied from the heels of CROFTSIDE when the pace slackened and as a result shifted out, making contact with MYSEIDE (K. Yoshida).
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ANGEL WITHIN, which raced wide throughout, apprentice B. Wallace, stated that the horse raced greenly throughout and had a tendency to shift away from other runners. Trainer P. Sexton could offer no explanation for the performance and undertook to stewards to report any abnormality that becomes apparent which may have had a bearing on tonight’s performance.
When questioned regarding the performance of RED TORNADO, R. Goltz stated that the horse was unable to go the early speed of the event and was forced to apply pressure to the gelding for most of the event. He added however that RED TORNADO ran on fairly over the concluding stages and gave him the impression that the horse may be suited to races over longer distances.
