SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As M. O’Brien was injured and J. Daley and P. Wolfgram ill, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
As J. Warrington was unable to fulfil his engagements on HE’S SOME EAGLE (Race 2) and PIONEER WAY (Race 4), riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. An inquiry into this matter was adjourned.
Race 1: Signs ‘N’ Lines Class 3 Plate – 1300m
1st – Tycoon’s Pride 2nd – Fat Henry 3rd – Sheldon 4th – Etching
Track temperature: 15 degrees celsius
As no other apprentice was available for the indisposed J. Daley, jockey N. Evans was substituted as the rider of TIGGEROO.
FAT HENRY (K. Mizobe) began awkwardly.
S. Bogenhuber, rider of DAYS TO GAMBLE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 500m she permitted her mount to shift out, resulting in ZAKATO (J. Letherby) being tightened between COLD TAP (W. Clasohm) and DAYS TO GAMBLE, resulting in COLD TAPE having to be checked. S. Bogenhuber was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4 September and to expire at midnight, 17 September 2010.
Near the 200m, ETCHING (N. Yamada) had to be eased from the heels of SHELDON (A. Best), which shifted in. ETCHING was again held up for clear running near the 100m and was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages as a reslt of hanging in under pressure.
MOTHER’S LOVE broke down in the off hindleg and was eased down over the final 300m. MOTHER’S LOVE was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.
FAT HENRY raced wide throughout.
Race 2: Thompson’s Pharmacy Open H'cap – 1200m
1st – Rockem 2nd – Prussian Secret 3rd – He’s Some Eagle 4th – Braebrook
Track temperature: 15 degrees celsius
PRUSSIAN SECRET (A.Taylor) began awkwardly and lost ground.
BRAEBROOK (N. Evans) and FOOLISH (A. Best) were slow to begin.
FOOLISH (A. Best) overraced during the early stages.
Near the 550m, COURT ADJOURNED (J. Kehoe), which was laying in, made contact with MR TOMBOLA (S. Bogenhuber).
COURT ADJOURNED (J. Kehoe) raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Ryan’s Smash Repairs Class 3 H'cap – 1625m
1st – Argenteum 2nd – Check The Leader 3rd – Spinada 4th – Smuggler’s Inn
Track temperature: 12 degrees celsius.
Trainer N. Saunders was fined $100 for failing to declare A. Best as the rider for ARGENTEUM by the prescribed time, and was further reprimanded for failing to confirm such engagment wth A. Best. A. Taylor was subsequently substituted as the rider of that gelding.
MALLORY PARK (R. Goltz) was slow to begin.
Near the 1300m, DORADO BEACH (K. Yoshida) had to be eased off the heels of SPINADA (N. Evans).
N. Evans, rider of SPINADA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of STREETCAR DESIRE, resulting in that horse being tightened for room and having to be checked. N. Evans was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4 September and to expire at midnight 17 September 2010.
SMUGGLER’S INN (N. Yamada) laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ARGENTEUM (A.Taylor) raced wide throughout.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the riding tactics adopted by S. Bogenhuber, rider of DOUBLE RISE, and K. Gates, rider of KISS THE KING, during the early and middle stages of the race. Of particular concern was the tempo set by these riders when they shared the lead by a considerable distance. Evidence was taken from S. Boghenhuber, K. Gates, Mr T. Gollan, trainer of DOUBLE RISE and Mr P. Wallace, trainer of KISS THE KING. Stewards advised all parties that the matter was being adjourned to allow them to establish the sectional times of the relevant sections of the race. The inquiry was adjourned to a date and time to be fixed.
Race 4: Hannas Department Store Class 1 H'cap – 1050m
1st – Snippets 2nd – Context 3rd – Grain Trader 4th – No Monica
Track temperature: 12 degrees celsius.
PRINCESS JAYLA (T. Harrison) was tightened for room at the start between CONTEXT (R. Goltz) and CROFTSIDE (N. Yamada), which shifted in.
DARK KNIGHT (A. Best) jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.
Near the 550m, CONTEXT, which was overracing, had to be eased from the heels of CROFTSIDE (N. Yamada). NO MONICA (K. Ashton), which was following, had to be eased as a consequence.
MIDNIGHT SHIRAZ (S. Bogenhuber) hung out badly rounding the 800m turn.
GRAIN TRADER (A.Taylor) raced wide for the majority of the race.
A post race veterinary examination of MIDNIGHT SHIRAZ revealed the mare to have a poor recovery rate. Trainer R. Lipp undertook to report to stewards any abnormality with MIDNIGHT SHIRAZ which becomes apparent in the days following the race.
Race 5: Garden City Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Bridal Gift 2nd – Air Bound 3rd – Jovial Joke 4th – Peak Performance
Track temperature: 12 degrees celsius.
Trainer J. Byrne was fined $200 for failing to scratch LITTLE FLUTE by the prescribed time. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of LITTLE FLUTE at 8.30 am.
AIR BOUND (K. Yoshida), which began awkwardly, shifted out, taking PEAK PERFORMANCE (J. Kehoe) out on to the hind quarters of JOVIAL JOKE (A.Taylor).
AIR BOUND overraced with its head in the air during the early stages of the event.
Near the 900m, MAIANBAR (K. Mizobe) was tightened for room when racing between LET’S GET CRACKIN (N. Evans), which shifted out after brushing the running rail, and THRILLSEEKER (A. Best) which shifted in whilst hanging in despite the efforts of its rider.
Passing the 400m, LET’S GET CRACKIN, which was weakening, was inconvenienced by PEAK PERFORMANCE, which shifted in. MAIANBAR, which was following, also had to be steadied as a result of this incident.
Shortly after entering the straight, HIGH GAIN (K. Ashton) improved onto the heels of the tiring JEMMASGODSANGEL (K. Sawyers), clipping the heels of that mare and blundered, losing ground.
THRILLSEEKER hung in for the majority of the event.
JOVIAL JOKE (A.Taylor) raced wide for the majority of the race.
Race 6: Brammer Architects QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Plate – 1300m
1st – Emoticon 2nd – Kiss Me Deadly 3rd – Whisprian 4th – Backstage Tycoon
Track temperature: 8 degrees celsius.
A. Taylor was dislodged from CAPTAIN FUN when proceeding to the barriers. A. Taylor was examined by ambulance officers and cleared to fulfil her engagment. CAPTAIN FUN was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
SILVER TONGUE (N. Yamada) was slow to begin.
CAPTAIN FUN (A.Taylor) raced with its head in the air in the early stages when being restrained.
CRAFTY’S LAST (K. Ashton) shifted in abruptly near the 200m to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 100m, SCARLETTS DREAM (R. Goltz) had to be steadied after hanging in on to the heels of BACKSTAGE TYCOON (S. Bogenhuber).
CAPTAIN FUN hung out and shifted wider on the track near the 700m and raced wide from that point. Trainer M. Webb was advised that CAPTAIN FUN would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Mr Webb informed stewards that CAPTAIN FUN would now be sent for a spell.
Race 7: Red Lion Project Management Class 4 H'cap – 850m
1st – Emition 2nd – Rich Baby 3rd – Adventurous Angel 4th – Diasco
Track temperature: 8 degrees celsius.
RICH BABY (R. Goltz) and SHE DEVIL (K. Mizobe), which was slow to begin, bumped shortly after the start.
RICH BABY had a tendency to hang in for the majority of the event.
Leaving the 200m, KWILAJOY (N. Yamada) was tightened for room when racing between PUNXUTAWNEY PHIL (S. Bogenhuber) and RICH BABY (R. Goltz), which shifted in whilst hanging in. RICH BABY continued to hang in, further tightening the running of KWILA JOY near the 100m resuilting in KWILA JOY being checked.
Near the 100m, EMITION (L. Cheshire) shifted in, making contact with MAID READY (K. Yoshida), which was forced to steady. L. Cheshire, rider of EMITION, was advised to exercise more care.
