SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From TTC 23.10.10 – Race 5: Apprentice B. Richardson was reprimanded under AR. 137A(4)(c) for her whip use on LIGHTNING SPENDER when that horse was out of contention.

Race 1: TILLING TIMBER CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1850M
1st – Channel Crossing 2nd – Argenteum 3rd – Crimson Fire 4th – Under Construction

Track temperature: 35 degrees celsius

As M. Dolendo was unable to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement on UNDER CONSTRUCTION, A. Taylor was substituted as the rider of that horse. Stewards accepted the explanations of trainer D. Bowen and M. Dolendo regarding the circumstances of M. Dolendo’s late arrival.

ARTSECRETS (M. Abe) was slow to begin.

CHANNEL CROSSING (B. Richardson), which began awkwardly, raced with its head in the air during the early stages whilst being restrained.

ARGENTEUM (J. Letherby) and GENIUS MASTER (J. Kehoe) both raced wide for the majority of the event.

LOVMIEKO (N. Yamada) overraced during the early and middle stages.

Near the 100m LOVMIEKO was forced to shift out around the heels of UNDER CONSTRUCTION (A.Taylor) which shifted out under pressure.

Stewards questioned trainer R. Hawkswell and jockey M. Abe in relation to the performance of ARTSECRETS, which perfomed below market expectations. Jockey Abe stated that the horse got back from a wide gate as has been its customary racing pattern. Jockey Abe further stated that the horse travelled well and followed the eventual winner during the event, however when placed under pressure near the 600m the gelding was unable to quicken as he anticipated. Jockey Abe added that in his opinion ARTSECRETS performs best when racing on the outside of other runners. Trainer Hawkswell agreed with jockey Abe’s assessment of the performance and confirmed his belief that ARTSECRETS races best when on the outside of other runners.

Race 2: AIRCO FASTENERS OPEN H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Red Ferments 2nd – Heza Flashman 3rd – Flying Along 4th – Tennessee Blue

Track temperature: 29 degrees celsius

As apprentice S. Egan was unable to arrive on course by the prescribed time, he was replaced by apprentice B. Richardson as the rider of FLYING ALONG. Stewards will interview apprentice Egan and trainer D. Baker at a later date in relation to this matter.

COURT ADJOURNED (J. Kehoe) was slow to begin.

COURT ADJOURNED and CACHETE (N. Yamada) raced wide throughout.

Near the 350m FLYING ALONG (B. Richardson) was momentarily held up for clear running.

Leaving the 300m FLYING ALONG was disappointed for a run when racing between DIASCO (K. Mizobe) and RED FERMENTS (T. Fujinuma), both of which shifted ground.

HYDE PARK (N. Tomizawa) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.

Stewards questioned apprentice K. Mizobe in relation to the tactics adopted aboard DIASCO whereby the horse settled further back in the field than at its most recent starts. Apprentice Mizobe stated that he was instructed to ride the horse off the speed tonight as connections were of the opinion that the mare may not be entirely suited over the 1100m. Apprentice Mizobe further stated that he did settle back slightly further than he had anticipated, however the tempo of the race and bearing in mind his instructions resulted in him racing in this position. Trainer P. Sexton confirmed the instructions and was also of the opinion that the horse settled further back than he would have anticipated, however given the circumstances both parties indicated they were not dissatisfied with the mare’s performance.

Race 3: HUME DOORS QLD CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Sky Effort 2nd – Often Wrong 3rd – Nicaise 4th – Striking Rose

Track temperature: 29 degrees celsius

Correct weight was delayed to enable A. Taylor, the rider of 4th placegetter STRIKING ROSE, to view the photo finish print. After viewing the print, A. Taylor was satisfied with the Judge’s decision and correct weight was declared.

SKY EFFORT (P. Wolfgram) began awkwardly.

THE BARGAIN (S. Bayliss) began awkwardly, losing ground.

OFTEN WRONG (K. Yoshida) was slow to begin.

STRIKING ROSE (A.Taylor) raced wide throughout.

Near the 900m SHELDON (N. Tomizawa), which was overracing, was forced to ease to avoid the heels of ROBSON (K. Banks), which shifted out.

Stewards questioned trainer T. Skinner and jockey S. Bayliss in relation to the riding tactics adopted on THE BARGAIN whereby that gelding raced a considerable distance behind the main body of the field during the early and middle stages of the event. Jockey Bayliss stated that his instructions were to settle THE BARGAIN back in the field as per its normal racing pattern and then to place the horse under pressure at the 600m as the horse races best when ridden in this manner. Mr Skinner confirmed the instructions given to jockey Bayliss and stated that it is customary for THE BARGAIN to race at the tail of the field and was not entirely surprised to see the horse racing where it was as it perfoms best when ridden in this manner. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by both jockey Bayliss and Mr Skinner, however were of the opinion that jockey Bayliss may have erred in that he did not place the gelding under pressure from leaving the 800m in an endeavour to obtain a position closer to the main body of the field. Stewards advised jockey Bayliss that in their opinion his ride was not in breach of the rules, however they expected greater judgment from a rider of his seniority so as not to leave his rides open to question.

Race 4: GAINSBOROUGH HARDWARE QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Peterhof 2nd – Mr Favulous 3rd – Spring Rose 4th – August Bishop

Track temperature: 22 degrees celsius

Correct weight was delayed to enable K. Banks, the rider of 2nd placegetter MR FAVULOUS, to view the photo finish print. After viewing the print, K. Banks was satisfied with the Judge’s decision and correct weight was declared.

AUGUST BISHOP (K. Yoshida) and MR FAVULOUS (K. Banks) were tightened for room at the start between SPRING ROSE (N. Yamada) and TISANI STAR (M. O'Brien), which began awkwardly and shifted in.

PETERHOF (N. Tomizawa) began awkwardly.

TISANI STAR raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned trainer Mark Webb in relation to the disappointing performance of DAYDREAMER (P. Wolfgram), which compounded over the concluding stages of the event. Mr Webb stated that in his opinion DAYDREAMER had come to the end of its preparation and as such the horse will be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination of DAYDREAMER revealed the filly to be mildly sore in both forelegs. Given Mr Webb’s undertaking that he was to spell the horse, stewards took no further action against the horse.

Stewards questioned trainer K. Kemp in relation to the late nomination, acceptance and subsequent scratching of SET THE BAR. Trainer Kemp stated that he nominated the horse on the strength of a trial on 25 October in Toowoomba. Mr Kemp further stated that it was his intention to start the filly, however following its track gallop on Thursday, the horse was found to be shin sore and as such Mr Kemp elected to scratch the horse and it is now his intention to send the horse for a spell. Whilst accepting Mr Kemp’s explanation, stewards advised him that in similar circumstances in future it would be recommended that he contact stewards if it was his intention to scratch.

Stewards also questioned trainer Mark Webb in relation to the acceptance and subsequent scratching of SASSY. Mr Webb stated that following SASSY’s trial on Monday, 25 October, it was his intention to run the horse and had engaged a rider for today’s event. However, on assessing the filly this morning, he was not entirely happy with her condition and subsequently scratched SASSY from today’s event. Stewards accepted the explanation.

Race 5: CSR CEMINTEL MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Winning Dreams 2nd – Watch The Show 3rd – Little Flute 4th – Winning Again

Track temperature: 20 degrees celsius

The start of this race was delayed as stewards held for an interstate harness event.

Trainer W. Baker pleaded guilty a charge under AR. 140A in that he presented WINNING AGAIN to race without the lead bag, which was part of that horse’s gear, and was fined $500.

WINNING AGAIN (S. Bayliss) began awkwardly and lost ground.

SIR SCISSORS (W. Clasohm) was slow to begin.

WINNING DREAMS (J. Letherby) overraced during the early and middle stages of the event.

SIR SCISSORS raced wide for the majority of the event.

Near the 600m WINNING AGAIN was disappointed for a run between LITTLE FLUTE (N. Yamada), which shifted out, and SIR SCISSORS, which shifted in. Both apprentice N. Yamada and jockey W. Clasohm (SIR SCISSORS) were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Near the 400m KESTHIN (S. Egan), which was racing ungenerously, shifted out abruptly when attempting a run to the inside of ELLIES WAY (M. Dolendo). KESTHIN then shifted back in, became unbalanced and lost ground.

SMARTY SMART (K. Mizobe) laid in under pressure rounding the home turn.

Approaching the 100m KESTHIN shifted in abruptly to obtain clear running.

Race 6: XXXX GOLD CLASS 1 PLATE – 1850M
