GENERAL:
At tonight's meeting stewards inspected riding gear, in particular the safety vests of all riders.
Apprentice S. Egan was interviewed regarding the ownership of a modified safety vest found. Race 1: LEON PETTET PLUMBING CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1050M
1st – The Jazzy Prince 2nd – Boardies 3rd – Uphebobs 4th – Edwardscissorhands
Track temperature: 16 degrees Celsius
Upon returning to scale jockey N. Yamada, the rider of ZOSO, which was placed 5th, weighed in 1kg less than the weight the horse should have carried. Acting under AR. 143(a), stewards disqualified ZOSO from its 5th placing. At a subsequent inquiry jockey N. Yamada pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 143(b) and was fined $400.
EDWARDSCISSORHANDS (J. Hoopert) was bumped at the start by BOARDIES (S. Drake) and then shortly after was steadied when crowded by BOARDIES which was taken in by STALLONE (S. Egan).
For some distance approaching the 600m CONSULATE (A. Best) hung in badly.
Making the home turn STALLONE hung out.
Race 2: WATER SKIERS WAREHOUSE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1500M
1st – Mymatemarty 2nd – Morongla 3rd – Husson's Fortune 4th – Starburst
Track temperature: 14 degrees Celsius

Race 3: BROWN GOUGE DRY CLEANING MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
1st – Bemuse 2nd – Monde Bijou 3rd – Caulfield 4th – Get It Right
Track temperature: 14 degrees Celsius.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, W. Clasohm, the rider of 4th placegetter GET IT RIGHT, exercised his right to view the stewards' patrol film to ascertain whether he had grounds on which to lodge a protest against CAULFIELD (P. Wolfgram) being declared 3rd, alleging interference leaving the 800m. After viewing the film, jockey Clasohm formally lodged a protest. After taking evidence from all parties and apprentice J. Brown, the rider of MORGAN MISS, stewards were not comfortably satisfied on the available films that the interference sustained by GET IT RIGHT was solely attributable to CAULFIELD and further could not be totally satisfied that had the interference not occurred GET IT RIGHT would have finished in front of CAULFIELD and therefore dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judge's placings of 11, 12, 2 and 9. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that as CAULFIELD endeavoured to cross MORGAN MISS, MORGAN MISS then improved up slightly, resulting in CAULFIELD shifting in when not properly clear of MORGAN MISS, which was taken in on to GET IT RIGHT which as a result was crowded for room and checked. Whilst stewards were unable to be satisfied that CAULFIELD was fully responsible for the incident, they did not take any direct action, however P. Wolfgram was advised that he should at all times ensure he is properly clear when shifting ground in future.
HAPPY HOOLIGAN (N. Yamada), WINNING MOMENTS (M. Abe) and PEAK PERFORMANCE (T. Banks) were slow to begin.
Near the 900m WOODLAKE (J. Hoopert) hung in momentarily, resulting in IMPEDING (K. Yoshida) having to be steadied. PEAK PERFORMANCE, which was following, had to be checked in consequence.

As A. Best was suffering a migraine headache following the running of Race 5, L. Cumberland was substituted as the rider of CRIMSON FIRE.
