GENERAL

Trainer T. Gollan was tonight interviewed regarding the circumstances surrounding him accepting with MISS LEIBERT, AUBURN DANDY and GENTLE SPIRIT in Race 7 the 3YO Maiden Handicap 1300m.

Mr Gollan explained that he had originally nominated AUBURN DANDY for this race, however when nominations were extended he then added MISS LEIBERT and GENTLE SPIRIT to the entries.

On Thursday, 15 September, he accepted for all three runners, although MISS LEIBERT was also a dual acceptor for the Ipswich meeting on Friday, 16 September 2011.

Mr Gollan explained that after the acceptances were declared he had discussions with the owners of MISS LEIBERT who indicated their preference was to start the horse at Ipswich on Friday, 16 September. MISS LEIBERT subsequently was successful in that race, which made it ineligible for tonight's Maiden Handicap.

In relation to GENTLE SPIRIT, having accepted with that filly for today's race, he then had discussions with the owners who indicated their preference, at this stage of the filly's preparation, to start the horse on a grass surface, as it has only had two starts and they were keen to run the filly on that surface in preference to the cushion track, which he anticipates will be the case in the upcoming week.

Having regard to the evidence tendered by Mr Gollan, Stewards accepted his explanation and decided to take no action, however he was reminded of the provisions of AR. 68A(2) and told that situations such as this are continually monitored.

Race 1: WILSONTON BETTA ELECTRICAL HOME LIVING CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Whisprian 2nd – Blitzed 3rd – Munster Province 4th – Mondiah/Made 'N' Ready

Track temperature: 32 degrees Celsius

As W. Clasohm was injured, J. Kehoe was substituted as the rider of SPHENE.

After arriving in the parade yard, jockey P. Wolfgram (WHISPRIAN) had some concern with the girth which had been fitted to the horse and sought permission to be reweighed with a shorter girth. Stewards acceded to this request and as a result of this reweigh, the start of the race was delayed.

On jumping BLITZED (A. Best) and MOT DE PASSE (N. Yamada) came together.

SPHENE (J. Kehoe) was slow to begin.

Making the turn near the 900m RED HOT BRIEFS (C. Priest) became unbalanced and had to be checked when crowded between LIKE A GEE SIX (S. Bogenhuber), which shifted in slightly, and MOT DE PASSE, which shifted out.

Near the 800m HAYIL KING DAYL (W. Abbey) was steadied when crowded between MADE 'N' READY and MUNSTER PROVINCE (N. Evans), which shifted out when being steadied off the heels of MASTER PEACE (L. Finlay).

Inside the final 100m MASTER PEACE was eased when crowded between MUNSTER PROVINCE and MADE 'N' READY, which was taken in slightly by BLITZED.

Just prior to the winning post MADE 'N' READY was crowded between MUNSTER PROVINCE and BLITZED, which shifted in slightly.

Near the 100m MAYWYNS QUEST (L. Cumberland) was eased between GREYS A ROCKIN and CONVICTOR (N. Evans), which shifted out slightly.

Jockey J. Hoopert (MUSIC MAESTRO) was reprimanded under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

1st – Halo'd Be Thy Name 2nd – Night Wanderer 3rd – Pipeliner 4th – Lightning Flash

MAIANBAR (A. Best) and GOLDEN GLEAMS (M. Abe) were slow to begin.

Near the 400m LIGHTNING FLASH (N. Tomizawa) was crowded for room between CRAIGLEA ROMEO (J. Kropp) and BOLD DANCER (P. Wolfgram) which was inclined to lay in. After this LIGHTNING FLASH had to be restrained around the heels of BOLD DANCER and shifted out to improve.

CHEQUE FOR FREEDOM (L. Cumberland) began awkwardly and then hung in in the early stages.

P. Wolfgram (THE JAZZY PRINCE) explained that from the draw he anticipated being in the first three runners in the race. He said in the early stages runners to his inside showed early speed and for this reason he had to ride his horse along more than he anticipated to maintain his position. He added that he then enjoyed a nice run behind the leader throughout and when the tempo quickened from the 400m THE JAZZY PRINCE dropped the bit and did not respond as it usually does to his riding. He said in the straight, despite his riding out of the horse, it did not respond as he would have liked and in his opinion was slightly disappointing.
