SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From Bell 7.1.12 – Race 4: Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reasons for THATSWHATYOUGET being forced to check near the 800m. Stewards today took evidence from jockey N. Evans (STREAKER) and also took further evidence from S. Apthorpe (FINAGLE) and J. Hoopert (THATSWHATYOUGET). After taking evidence it was established that STREAKER shifted in despite the best efforts of its rider and as a result FINAGLE was taken in on to THATSWHATYOUGET, which was tightened for room and forced to check. As Stewards deemed that jockey Evans had made sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in, no action was taken.

Race 1: COUNTRY RANGE FARMING CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1625M
1st – Blackgold 2nd – Griffith Lad 3rd – Lady Innocent 4th – Punto Vista

Track temperature: 37 degrees Celsius

As J. Warrington failed to arrive on couse in time to fulfil his engagement, R. Goltz was substituted as the rider of RAGING RASTUS. J. Warrington was fined $100.

GRIFFITH LAD (N. Yamada) was inspected by the veterinary surgeon prior to the event after that gelding slipped in the washbay and sustained some minor abrasions to the front of both hind fetlocks. GRIFFITH LAD was passed fit to start.

SARS MARIO (J. Hoopert) and BELLESPY (J. Letherby) both raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned jockey S. Bogenhuber and trainer D. Gollan in relation to the disappointing performance of TEMPLE COURT. Jockey Bogenhuber advised that the gelding travelled well throughout the run, however when placed under pressure from the 400m failed to respond to her riding and in her opinion proved very disappointing. Mr Gollan also expressed disappointment with the performance of TEMPLE COURT and the only explanation he could offer was that perhaps the gelding resented the tongue tie in which it was racing for the first time tonight. Mr Gollan advised Stewards that it is his intention to have an endoscopic examination carried out on the horse in the days following tonight's event and will forward the results of that examination to the Stewards. A post-race veterinary examination of TEMPLE COURT failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Stewards questioned jockey N. Evans and trainer's representative Mr C. Richardson regarding the disappointing performance of WESTERN RUN. Jockey Evans advised that the gelding settled well during the event, however from the 600m it failed to respond to his riding and proved very disappointing. Mr Richardson was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of WESTERN RUN and advised that connections may review the gelding's curent preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of WESTERN RUN failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr Richardson undertook to advise Stewards in the days subsequent to the event should any abnormalities become apparent which may have affected the performance tonight.

Race 2: HUTCHINSON BUILDERS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Jetalong 2nd – Sangro 3rd – Silver Tongue 4th – The Cat Can Dance

Track temperature: 30 degrees Celsius

BESSWISHES (W. O'Connell) was hampered at the start by JETALONG (R. Goltz), which jumped out.

Near the 800m STRONGHOLD (W. Clasohm) was momentarily eased to avoid the heels of KEZZ'S BOY (N. Tomizawa), which shifted in.

Stewards questioned apprentice J. Letherby and trainer P. Sexton regarding the poor performance of HEART OF MY HEART. Apprentice Letherby advised that he was instructed to obtain a forward position on the filly tonight in an attempt to allow the horse to finish the race off in the best possible fashion. Apprentice Letherby further advised that the horse travelled well until being placed under pressure near the 400m where it failed to respond to his riding. Apprentice Letherby advised that in his opinion HEART OF MY HEART was very disappointing tonight. Mr Sexton confirmed the instructions given to apprentice Letherby as he was of the opinion that the step up in distance of tonight's event would allow the filly to obtain an easy lead. Mr Sexon advised that whilst he was disappointed with the performance of HEART OF MY HEART he added that the step up in distance tonight in hindsight may not have suited the filly. A post-race veterinary examination of HEART OF MY HEART revealed no abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of KEZZ'S BOY, which compounded from the 600m to finish a distant last, revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B. Ahrens advised that following the disappointing performance the gelding will no longer be trained by him.

Riders W. O'Connell (BESSWISHES) and N. Tomizawa (KEZZ'S BOY) were reminded of their obligations in relation to raising their whip arm above shoulder height.

Race 3: PSP VIDEO C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Gimmemore 2nd – Outback Grande 3rd – Captain Fun 4th – Eskervinth

Track temperature: 24 degrees Celsius.

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer T. Sears in relation to the late declaration of N. Yamada as the rider of ESKERVINTH.

RUSHATUS (S. Bogenhuber) began awkwardly.

CAPTAIN FUN (W. Clasohm) jumped out at the start making heavy contact with OUTBACK GRANDE (K. Yoshida).

Shortly after the start MR PIN WA (J. Warrington) was tightened for room between ESKERVINTH (N. Yamada) and SPARTANEOUS (I. Coombes) and was forced to ease.

CAPTAIN FUN laid out throughout and was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

ESKERVINTH was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Approaching the 100m CAPTAIN FUN and ESKERVINTH raced in restricted room to the inside of OUTBACK GRANDE and to the outside of STROMBERG GOLD (N. Tomizawa), which shifted out marginally.

Stewards questioned jockey R. Goltz and trainer P. Sexton in relation to the improved performance of GIMMEMORE. Jockey Goltz advised that at its last start the gelding showed very little pace and never travelled throughout the event and proved disappointing. He added that in tonight's event, after beginning fairly, GIMMEMORE settled towards the tail of the field, however tonight travelled comfortably during the middle stages of the event when able to trail the favourite OUTBACK GRANDE. Jockey Goltz added that when the field bunched near the 400m he improved to the outside of the field and continued a sustained run from that point. Mr Sexton advised that he was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance of GIMMEMORE at its last start as the gelding had worked well in preparation for that event. Mr Sexton added that as a result of the poor performance he modified his training of GIMMEMORE by not galloping the horse in the week preceding tonight's event, based on the knowledge that the CATBIRD breed race best on light preparations. He added that he expected a forward showing tonight and had supported the gelding. Stewards noted the explanations.

Race 4: SOUTHERN CROSS FORD F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – Outback Legend 2nd – My Bellydancer 3rd – No Monica 4th – Monde Bijou

Track temperature: 24 degrees Celsius.

Stewards questioned trainer D. Handford regarding the nomination, acceptance and subsequent scratching of BOLD OPTION. After considering the explanation tendered by Ms Handford, who also had accepted with MY BELLYDANCER in the same event, Stewards advised her that she was being given the benefit of the doubt as to whether she had breached Local Rule 38, which requires that no trainer shall nominate or accept with a horse for the sole purpose of affecting the number of horses in the field.

TYCOON COUGAR was declared a late scratching at 11.15 a.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.

NO MONICA (J. Letherby) jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.

NO MONICA bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the first occasion on which the mare has bled, trainer P. Facoory was advised that under the provisions of AR. 53A(4)(b) NO MONICA would be barred from racing for a period of three months and before resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

Stewards questioned jockey A. Best and trainer M. Webb in relation to the disappointing performance of HEARTBROKEN. Jockey Best stated that the filly was first up tonight after a spell and was carrying 59kg. Jockey Best further added that the horse got back in the field in a fast-run race and as a result struggled to make ground in the straight. Jockey Best further added that as a result of these factors he was not entirely disappointed with the performance of HEARTBROKEN tonight. Mr Webb agreed with jockey Best that the filly was not entirely disappointing tonight, given the weight the horse was allocated to carry. Mr Webb further advised that the filly will derive fitness benefit from the first-up run tonight.

Race 5: SEDL AGENCIES BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1850M
1st – Bang On 2nd – The Clandy Man Can 3rd – Without Reproach 4th – Run Jake Run

Track temperature: 20 degrees Celsius.

BAHA (J. Kehoe) began awkwardly.

RUN JAKE RUN (S. Drake) raced keenly during the early and middle stages of the event.

HEATHEN CHEMISTRY (A. Best) raced wide throughout and had a tendency to lay in during the early and middle stages.

THE CLANDY MAN CAN (J. Brown) raced wide until a point near the 1000m, at which point it obtained a position outside the leader.

J. Kehoe, the rider of BAHA, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(3) of excessive use of the whip in a backhand manner and was fined $200.

Race 6: CENTRAL JEWELLERS CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1200M
1st –Handsupfordetroit 2nd – Blow A Kiss 3rd – Dont Call Me Crazy 4th – Alinga Star

Track temperature: 20 degrees Celsius.

DONT CALL ME CRAZY (N. Tomizawa) jumped out at the start making contact with SAVAGE RIVER (K. Yoshida).

Race 7: YOUR COMPANY QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1300M
1st –Granzella 2nd – Peterhof 3rd – Peace Talks 4th – El Jackino

Track temperature: 20 degrees Celsius.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, A. Best (PEACE TALKS – placed 2nd by the Judge), N. Tomizawa (PETERHOF – placed 3rd by the Judge), the trainer of both horses, Mr M. Webb, and the Stewards viewed the Stewards' patrol footage over the concluding stages to determine whether there were grounds for a protest to be lodged against the winner. After both riders and Mr Webb indicated that they did not wish to lodge an objection against GRANZELLA being declared the winner and furthermore that jockey Tomizawa and Mr Webb did not wish to enter an objection against PEACE TALKS being declared 2nd based on interference over the concluding stages, the Chairman of Stewards, Mr R. Hitchener, lodged a stewards' objection on behalf of 3rd placegetter PETERHOF against PEACE TALKS, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After evidence was taken from all parties, including Mr Hitchener, Stewards deliberated on the protest, in the absence of Mr Hitchener, and found that over the concluding stages PEACE TALKS shifted in abruptly, making heavy contact with PETERHOF, resulting in its rider having to momentarily stop riding and PETERHOF being forced inwards and making contact with GRANZELLA (R. Goltz). In the circumstances Stewards were satisfied that the amount of ground lost by PETERHOF exceeded the margin of a nose separating both horses at the finish and upheld the objection, with correct weight being declared on the Judge's amended placings of 2, 5, 3 and 4. At a subsequent inquiry A. Best was reprimanded and advised that he should make greater effort to straighten his mounts when they are shifting ground.

GRANZELLA jumped out at the start making contact with PETERHOF.

GRANZELLA overraced in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the 800m EMBELLISH (M. O'Brien) which was racing in restricted room, was forced to ease to avoid the heels of AFFIRMATIVE (S. Egan), which shifted in and away from DECLARE (J. Brown), which shifted in marginally. Apprentice Brown was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
