For some distance after the 700m HERE TO ROCK (L. Cheshire) hung in badly.
L. Cheshire (HERE TO ROCK) explained that the horse was having its first start on the cushion track. She said in the early stages she endeavoured to settle the mare, however when ORHTAC (J. Kehoe) improved up racing outside of her, HERE TO ROCK began to overrace, hung in badly and brushed the running rail on a number of occasions. She said she was relucant to allow ORHTAC to cross in the middle stages, however when that horse persisted on her outside, she had little option but to allow it to stride forward of her mount. She said from the 600m HERE TO ROCK began to weaken, hung in badly and in the home straight she eased the horse down. She was of the view that the manner in which the race was run in the first half contributed significantly to the horse compounding. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed it to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer M. Brosnan will be advised that the mare will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and she will be required to provide a veterinary certificate of fitness, including the results of and ECG, before the horse's next race start.
J. Kehoe (ORHTAC) stated that the horse pulls hard in its track work as well as in its races when unable to find cover. He said tonight from the wide draw the horse strode forward and when he attempted to restrain in the early stages the horse refused to settle and pulled its way up outside of HERE TO ROCK despite his efforts.
