BOUNTY MISS (J. Kehoe) was slow into stride.
SPARTANEOUS (R. Goltz) laid out during the middle stages of the event.
JAM TIN (S. Bogenhuber) laid in under pressure for a short distance leaving the 200m.
When asked to comment on the improved performance of ITALA PRINCE, trainer B. Brown advised at its most recent start at the Gold Coast on 17 March 2012 the gelding settled a number of lengths behind the second-last horse after being slow to begin, however added that ITALA PRINCE ran home reasonably on that day on the heavy track to be beaten 5 lengths. He further stated he was not entirely disappointed with the performance on that day and based on that run he was not surprised in ITALA PRINCE winning today. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 2: Central Jewellers Maiden Plate – 1100m
1st –El Vivo 2nd – Bom Chicka Wah Wah 3rd – Miss Dynamite 4th – Outback Elsa
Track temperature: 26 degrees Celsius
MISS DYNAMITE (S. Bogenhuber) and DENIM (N. Nishio) made heavy contact on jumping away when DENIM shifted in. MISS DYNAMITE then failed to muster early speed.
COLONEL SODHI (J. Kehoe) laid in for a short distance leaving the 600m.
Near the 400m, when attempting to obtain clear running, MISS DYNAMITE shifted out and in doing so COLONEL SODHI, which was racing to the outside, was forced to steady momentarily.
Rounding the home turn, BONNAY FLYER (C. Maund) shifted out, resulting in CONCEALED WEAPON (S. Drake) being taken wider on the track. As a result, MISS DYNAMITE, which was attempting to take a run between DENIM (N. Nishio) and CONCEALED WEAPON was disappointed for that run and was forced to be checked.
Stewards questioned S. Bogenhuber regarding the performance of MISS DYNAMITE. Jockey Bogenhuber stated that after being inconvenienced at the start, MISS DYNAMITE failed to muster early speed which, in her opinion, was a result of the filly beginning awkwardly. She further added that MISS DYNAMITE was hard ridden throughout the race and only commenced to improve from the 600m. Jockey Bogenhuber added that at a point near the 400m she was disappointed for a run when attempting to improve and as a result shifted ground and lost momentum. She further stated that once able to obtain clear running, MISS DYNAMITE found the line strongly and, in her opinion, was very unlucky not to win the race. Stewards noted the explanation.
S. Richardson, rider of TAMAMUSHI, was fined $200 for usng his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

N. Tomizawa, rider of ABLACKAHAWKA, was fined $100 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer G. Cornish for the late declaration of S. Drake as the rider of SIDADA. Stewards also took into consideraton Mr Cornish's good record regarding rider notifications.
The start of this race was delayed to allow the telecast of an interstate harness event.
Near the 300m, HE IS LOYAL was disappointed for a run between GRIFFITH LAD and DONT CALL ME CRAZY (N. Tomizawa) when both horses shifted ground marginally.
GRIFFITH LAD (N. Nishio) laid in when hard ridden in the early stages of the home straight and near the 150m, HE IS LOYAL (N. Race 6: Paul Hannant Meorial Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1500m
1st – Macca's Express 2nd – Professor 3rd – Artsecrets 4th – Mallory Park
Track temperature: 21 degrees Celsius
PROFESSOR (N. Tomizawa) hung in from the 700m.
Stewards questioned trainer M. Webb in relation to the tactics adopted on PROFESSOR, which settled off the pace tonight, which was in contrast to its most recent start where the gelding led. Mr Webb advised that at its most recent start in Toowoomba on 17 March, there was very little pace in that race and therefore he instructed jockey Tomizawa to lead in the event and dictate the race, which it was able to do. Mr Webb added that he anticipated there would be more speed in tonight's race and therefore instructed jockey Tomizawa to settle just off the pace. Mr Webb added that in hindsight, given how the race was run tonight, that it would have been beneficial to instruct N. Tomizawa to obtain a more forward position, however he did not feel that the tactics adopted tonight affected its overall finishing position. Stewards noted the explanation.
M. Abe, rider of ARTSECRETS, was fined $200 for returning to scale more than half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.
