SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT:
From Warwick 21.4.12 – Race 1: Jockey B. Appo (ALL IS GOLD) was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m in a forehand manner. Stewards took into account that it was jockey Appo's first race ride in more than three years.
GENERAL:
As apprentice J. Brown was ill and I. Coombes was indisposed, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: HERON OPTOMETRISTS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1500M
1st – Jack's Back 2nd – Jack 'N' Me 3rd – Noela's Romp 4th – Perfect Days
Track temperature: 15 degrees Celsius
Turning into the back straight, after establishing the lead, UNCLE HEAVEN (A.Taylor) then steadied the pace in front. DEVIL'S DASH (J. Letherby), which was following, commenced to race keenly and was checked from behind the heels of UNCLE HEAVEN. NOELA'S ROMP (S. Bogenhuber), which was following DEVIL'S DASH, then became awkwardly placed inside DEVIL'S DASH and had to be checked and shifted out near the 900m.
Jockey N. Nishio (AI JO) reported that racing into the first turn when he elected to steady his mount, the saddle then shifted forward when racing wide without cover and for this reason he had little option but to allow it to stride forward to the lead near the 800m.
Race 2: THE MOTOR SHOPPE C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M
1st – American Eagle 2nd – Dhacourt 3rd – Dark Warrior 4th – Silverado
Track temperature: 15 degrees Celsius
HONOURED (G. Geran) reared as the gates opened, bounded at the start and lost considerable ground.
Shortly after the start DHACOURT (L. Appo) shifted out slightly, resulting in CONYUEN (A.Taylor) and ARCTIC GREY (S. Bogenhuber) being crowded.
A post-race veterinary examination of DARK WARRIOR (N. Nishio) revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer S. Field was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the horse prior to its next start.
Race 3: RANGE ANTIQUES/JEN TAYLOR PROPERTIES F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Give Me Room 2nd – Monde Bijou 3rd – Glimmering 4th – Atlanta Queen
Track temperature: 15 degrees Celsius
No racing incidents.
Race 4: OPUS BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 850M
1st – Gran Torino 2nd – Dr Barnard 3rd – Big Is Big 4th – Emma Kate
Track temperature: 15 degrees Celsius
BOARDIES (S. Drake) was slow to begin.
TOUGH TAIMZ (K. Yoshida) hung in throughout.
Making the turn near the 550m BIG IS BIG (A.Taylor) shifted in and bumped the rail.
In the straight BIG IS BIG hung in very badly and proved difficult to ride out.
Race 5: ATOMIC CLEANING SERVICES MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Star Of Maher 2nd – Heavenly Heights 3rd – Bonnay Flyer 4th – Queen Rose
Track temperature: 14 degrees Celsius
No racing incidents.
Race 6: CRANBROOK PRESS QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1050M
1st – Bradbury Chocolate 2nd – Tomcat 3rd – Wigpool 4th – Wee Bit Snobby
Track temperature: 14 degrees Celsius
MR THATCHER (R. Goltz) began awkwardly, struck the inside gate and then bumped TOMCAT (A. Best).
Shortly after the start OUTBACK BABE (J. Letherby) was steadied when crowded for room between BRADBURY CHOCOLATE (N. Nishio) and WIGPOOL (G. Geran), which jumped in.
In the early stages MR THATCHER, which was endeavouring to find a position behind TOMCAT, proved very difficult to settle and raced wide.
MONJAYA BOY (A. Fancourt), which was endeavouring to be restrained, got its head up making the turn near the 800m. OUTBACK BABE, which was following, was awkwardly placed close to that horse's heels.
Jockey R. Goltz (MR THATCHER) explained that the horse raced very keenly in the early stages and refused to settle for him. He said despite his best attempts he was unable to find cover and consequently, with horses racing on both sides, MR THATCHER was inclined to fire up and overrace badly and he was of the view that because of the manner in which it raced during the first half of the race, it failed to respond to his attempts in the straight and was somewhat disappointing. He said although its recent form has been good, it has been on tracks of different surfaces and he is of the view that it may not be suited by the cushion track.
