Race 1: PSP VIDEO CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Bullova Lady 2nd – Set The Bar 3rd – Scarlett Sun 4th – Zero Limit

Track temperature: 43 degrees Celsius

Stewards accepted trainer T. Wolfgram's explanation for the late declaration of N. Nishio as the rider of BULLOVA LADY.

Both FELINE GREIGHT (L. Cheshire) and ZERO LIMIT (J. Letherby) were slow to begin.

In the early and middle stages ZERO LIMIT raced ungenerously with its head up.

In the early stages when racing outside the leader TENT HARMONY (R. Goltz) raced very keenly.

Apprentice L. Tarrant (SCARLETT SUN) reported that his mount hung out throughout the event.

Jockey K. Yoshida explained that from the inside draw YOGO BEAR enjoyed a nice run behind the leader throughout, however from the 800m he was concerned that the horse was not travelling and appeared to resent some kickback. He added that when he placed the gelding under pressure it never responded and commenced to give ground badly rounding the home turn and turning into the home straight. Trainer N. Peterson advised that he was unable to put forward any explanation for the horse's somewhat poor performance and advised Stewards it is now his intention to spell the gelding with a view to transferring it out of his stable. A post-race veterinary examination of YOGO BEAR found the horse to have a cough.

Race 2: BRISBANE BLOODSTOCK CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Angelus Belle 2nd – Fast Lover 3rd – Ain't She Sweet 4th – Doug's Jet

Track temperature: 38 degrees Celsius

Stewards accepted trainer J. Thomas's explanation for the late declaration of A. Taylor as the rider of SWEET HUSSY.

FAST LOVER (N. Nishio) was slow to begin.

Near the 500m SWEET HUSSY (A.Taylor), which was weakening, was checked when crowded to the inside of ANGELUS BELLE (G. Goold), which after establishing a tight run to the inside of ZAKATO (C. Eaton) was itself taken in slightly by ZAKATO, which shifted in slightly despite the efforts of its rider to keep her mount three wide. As the Stewards were unable to ascertain any one rider was fully responsible for the incident, no action was taken.

Race 3: XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP – 1050M
1st – Silver Scholar 2nd – Bannett 3rd – Reilly Blue 4th – Gatineau River

Track temperature: 34 degrees Celsius

GATINEAU RIVER (K. Yoshida) stumbled on jumping.

Shortly after the start LENNY'S LOT (R. Goltz) and ZAHBAJ (N. Nishio) were both crowded by BANNETT (A.Taylor), which shifted in slightly.

Race 4: NEIL MANSELL GROUP CLASS 2 H’CAP – 2000M
1st – Non Dimenticar 2nd – Sandy's Dragon 3rd – Sell The Silver 4th – Major General

Track temperature: 28 degrees Celsius

Shortly after jumping SANDY'S DRAGON (D. Missen) was checked between LOXLEY (A.Taylor), which shifted out slightly, and SELL THE SILVER (G. Goold), which got its head up and ran in away from SONIC HILL (J. Kehoe).

Near the winning post on the first occasion COLOUR CODE (J. Letherby) took control of its rider, locked its jaw and commenced to run out, resulting in SONIC HILL being severely checked. COLOUR CODE then continued to race towards the middle of the track, taking NO HOOPS (N. Nishio) extremely wide on the first turn before NO HOOPS was eventually checked near the 1600m and shifted back in. Trainer C. Weston (COLOUR CODE) was advised that the performance of the gelding was considered unacceptable and he was advised that COLOUR CODE will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial of at least 800m before being permitted to start again.

Near the 500m SELL THE SILVER and NON DIMENTICAL (M. O'Brien) jostled for some distance due mainly to NON DIMENTICAL endeavouring to shift to the outside of the heels of MAJOR GENERAL (S. Drake) to obtain clear running.

Race 5: MAINZ DEVELOPMENTS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
1st – One Stop 2nd – Bituminous 3rd – Bundu Boy 4th – Majestic Charmer

Track temperature: 23 degrees Celsius

REAL DYNAMITE was a late scratching at 7.42 a.m. for veterinary reasons due to having an elevated temperature.

On jumping ONE STOP (G. Goold) was bumped by BEESNEST (J. Kehoe), which shifted in.

PLAIN KITTY (M. O'Brien) and OKINAWA (L. Cheshire) were slow to muster speed.

Approaching the first turn ONE STOP hung in and then when endeavouring to be corrected lost momentum, losing some ground.

Near the 500m BUNDU BOY (R. Goltz) was crowded slightly when racing tight to the inside of FAIRFIELD LASS (J. Letherby), which was weakening. For some distance after this BUNDU BOY was then held up behind BEESNEST (J. Kehoe), which was weakening, and then after being shifted away from that horse's heels was again held up until straightening, racing tight to the inside of BITUMINOUS (N. Tomizawa).

Race 6: WAYNE'S WORLD DISCOUNT VARIETY STORES MAIDEN PLATE – 1625M
1st – Town Dazzler 2nd – Not Courageable 3rd – Relle's Tag 4th – Strong Stitch

Track temperature: 24 degrees Celsius

Connections advised that it will be the intention to have ARAGON (M. O'Brien) ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

ANNEKE (L. Tarrant) stood flat-footed when the gates opened, resulting in it losing considerable ground. Trainer M. Hemmings advised that in his opinion the mare has had enough this preparation and it is now his intention to send it for a spell. Mr Hemmings was advised that he would be required to obtain a barrier certificate for ANNEKE before the horse is permitted to start again.

Near the 1500m MOPPSY GOLD DIGGER (K. Yoshida) was steadied to avoid the heels of STRONG STITCH (A.Taylor), which shifted in abruptly when not properly clear. A. Taylor was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Racing into the first run near the 1400m RELLE'S TAG (R. Ride), which was racing keenly and on the heels of other runners, was shifted out and allowed to stride forward.

Race 7: NEW YEARS EVE AT THE CLUB CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1625M
1st – Spinada 2nd – Mako Shark 3rd – New Ranger 4th – Suyama

Track temperature: 24 degrees Celsius

Trainer T. Sears was fined $100 for failing to declare N. Tomizawa as the rider of SPINADA by the prescribed time.

As W. O'Connell had been stood down at Goondiwindi for medical reasons, L. Cheshire was substituted as the rider of MADA.

After MAKO SHARK arrived on course Stewards were advised that in the days leading up to the race it had sustained minor abrasions to the upper hind limbs in the stifle region. Trainer P. Butterworth provided a veterinary certificate stating the horse had been examined by his vet who was of the view that the horse was fit to race. After arriving on course, MAKO SHARK was examined by the on-course veterinary surgeon who concurred with the views of the stable that the horse was suitable to race.

MADA (L. Cheshire) began awkwardly and then was crowded for room between NEW RANGER (K. Yoshida) and SPINADA (N. Tomizawa), which was taken out by SUYAMA (R. Goltz).

Near the 800m MADA became badly unbalanced when crowded for room by SUYAMA, which shifted in after bumping with SPINADA.

Rounding the home turn SPINADA was inclined to lay in behind NEW RANGER.
