Race 1: St Patrick’s Parish School Class 3 H'cap – 1200m

Track temperature – 40 degrees Celsius

On return to scale J. Letherby, rider of the 4th placegetter, ALBION, requested to view the replay of the race in the home straight to see if he had grounds to lodge a protest against PROTO being declared 2nd. After viewing the film, he decided to proceed. On the evidence it was established on straightening ALBION improved into clear running inside PROTO and then after the 200m PROTO shifted in on 2 occasions resulting in ALBION being cramped for room near the 150m and again over the latter stages. Whilst stewards were of the view that ALBION was inconvenienced on 2 occasions, they were not satisfied that the extent of the interference exceeded the 1¼ lengths margin between the 2 horses at the finish, and the protest was subsequently dismissed and the Judge’s placings confirmed. Subsequently, A. Best, rider of PROTO, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in gradually over the final 200m of the race.

On jumping away, ITALA PRINCE (D. Robinson) was crowded for room between HARDCORE PLAY (R. Goltz) and ALBION (J. Letherby), both of which shifted ground.

SKEYANA (W. O'Connell) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, HI HI (J. Kehoe) shifted out slightly and clipped the heels of DARLINGTON COUNTY (N. Tomizawa) and blundered.

Mrs L. Paton, trainer of the winner MAKER’S MARQUE, explained that in its recent starts the mare has drawn inside gates and has always shown a reluctance to race truly inside other horses or when covered up. She said MAKER’S MARQUE is a horse which usually has performed best from wider draws and when able to race outside other runners. Mrs Paton added that its previous start was on a very heavy track and prior to that had not been beaten a great distance. She further stated that the mare has generally performed well on the cushion surface, having had 10 starts and been placed in 6 of those.

Race 2: Wagners Class 1 H'cap – 1200m

Track temperature – 35 degrees Celsius

DREAM BELLA was declared a late scratching at 9.30 am when the mare was found to be lame.

L. Tarrant was dislodged from CAMARA LAD en route to the barriers without apparent injury. CAMARA LAD was recaptured after a short distance and proceeded to the barriers.

ILLUDE (J. Kehoe) was slow to begin.

Approaching the first turn, DIAMOND DELIGHT hung out badly, clipping the heels of MISS MEGA HERZ (R. Goltz) and blundering. DIAMOND DELIGHT then shifted further out, causing TENT HARMONY (A. Merritt) to be severely checked. Trainer M. Webb advised that it was now his intention to spell the mare and when it resumed he would consider varying its racing gear. Stewards ordered that DIAMOND DELIGHT would have to barrier trial, which would include travelling around a bend, before being permitted to start again.

Jockey C. Eaton was reprimanded and reminded of her obligations regarding using the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

Trainer G Blades (SCARLETT SUN) was afforded the opportunity to explain the improved performance. He explained the mare was unsuited last start in the wet track conditions even though not beaten that far. He said prior to that the horse struck severe inteference and on that occasion it also was not beaten too far. He added although the horse had a trouble free run tonight its winning time was somewhat off the Class record indicating the form of this race may not have been strong.

Race 3: Hannas Family Department Store Benchmark 60 H'cap – 2000m

Track temperature – 35 degrees Celsius

The explanation tendered by trainer M. Simpson for the late declaration of K. Yoshida as the rider of NO GUESSING was accepted.

Near the 600m, L. Tarrant, rider of WITHOUT REPROACH, dropped his whip.

D. Robinson, rider of SONIC HILL, dropped his whip near the 200m.

Race 4: The Billiard Shop QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1200m

Track temperature – 29 degrees Celsius

MY BOY LUCKY (N. Tomizawa) bounded at the start and lost ground.

In the early stages, CAPTAIN SPUR (R. Goltz) raced very keenly close to the heels of TENT FIGHTER (L. Tarrant) and near the 900m shifted in and made heavy contact with THOMAS’S TRAIN (L. Cheshire).

Near the 900m, TORNADO FORCE (D. Robinson) shifted out slightly, causing MY BOY LUCKY to be steadied.

Rounding the home turn, THOMAS’S TRAIN (L. Cheshire) was badly held up behind DEVIL’S HALO, which was giving ground.

On straightening, THOMAS’S TRAIN was checked when disappointed for a run between DEVIL’S HALO (J. Letherby) and TENT FIGHTER, which was taken in slightly by CAPTAIN SPUR.

BEADSWORTH (A. Best) raced very keenly in the lead and refused to settle in the early and middle stages.

Race 5: SEDL Contractors Maiden Plate – 1050m

Track temperature – 22 degrees Celsius

SWEET SUGAR (A. Best) was slow to begin and was then hampered slightly by RELENTLESS HEART (R. Goltz), which shifted out.

Rounding the home turn, TRUE MALT (K. Yoshida) hung out.

Race 6: Dean Lyons Building Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1625m

Track temperature – 27 degrees Celsius

Connections advised that PROFESSOR would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. PROFESSOR was ridden in a handy position.

R. Jamieson, rider of VALIANT HEART, was reprimanded for shifting in near the 1500m when not sufficiently clear of VIVAHEART (L. Cheshire).

Near the 900m, O’GRADY (N. Evans) raced keenly and was eased off the heels of DAADS ORDER (K. Yoshida).

Leaving the 900m, BLACKGOLD (R. Goltz) broke down in the off fore fetlock and was retired from the event. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for BLACKGOLD prior to its next race start.

PROFESSOR bled during the event. Connections were advised that the horse would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

Race 7: Harvey Norman Toowoomba Electrical Class 2 H'cap – 850m

Track temperature – 20 degrees Celsius

MEDEYA (N. Evans) jumped outwards at the start and bumped SHOESHINE BOY (K. Yoshida).
