Apprentice R. Ride stated that the intention was to have HYDE PARK ridden slightly more forward, however she was advised to give the horse a liven up behind and in the gates prior to the start. She said after doing this HYDE PARK then began well and raced keenly and consequently raced closer to the lead than anticipated.

Race 3: A1 FIRE & SAFETY BENCHMARK 70 H'CAP – 1625M

Track temperature – 20 degrees Celsius

MAKER’S MARQUE (A. Merritt) was crowded on jumping between GRAIN TRADER (R. Ride) and SECOND GO (S. Shield), which was taken in slightly by OFFYAROCKA (D. Robinson).

From the 800m ALBION (K. Yoshida) hung in and particularly in the straight proved difficult to ride.

When questioned as to why he did not restrain KING LUDWIG to obtain a position behind CASSE SQARETTE (B. Newport), W. O’Connell said he was happy to stay racing wide in the middle stages as he had been instructed to ensure the horse did not get cluttered up behind other runners. Trainer P. Facoory explained he did instruct jockey O’Connell to endeavour to allow the horse to be free running and not get cluttered up but denied telling his rider specifically not to get in behind other horses. Mr Facoory conceded that there may have been a slight misunderstanding in the instructions given. He said as a result of KING LUDWIG racing wide throughout, the horse weakened, however it was now the intention for the gelding to be spelled.

After arriving on course BATTLE MIST was found to have slight swelling above the off fore fetlock. Acting on this advice, Stewards ordered that BATTLE MIST be withdrawn at 6.10 pm.

YOUTHFUL PRINCE hung in around the home turn.

S. Shield (RAPID COMMAND) was reprimanded for using the whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

Apprentice B. Richardson (SPENT) explained that shortly after the start she was concerned with the filly’s action and endeavoured to ride it along for a few strides, however became concerned early on in the race that her saddle may have slipped and that there was also something amiss with the filly. She said for this reason when she relaxed on the horse it dropped the bit and then despite persisting with riding for a short distance it lost momentum quickly and became tailed off. She said for this reason she made the decision to try and restrain the filly out of the race, however had some difficulty doing this. She said on return to scale she was somewhat surprised that her saddle had not shifted as much as she thought it had in the run, and although it had shifted slightly, she was of the opinion that this had contributed to the filly feeling abnormal in her action in the early stages. Trainer T. Webb advised that the filly has performed well when racing with cover previously on the cushion surface and after viewing a replay was unable to explain the filly’s action in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination of SPENT failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr Webb advised Stewards that it would be his intention to trial the filly, however Stewards ordered that SPENT be required to trial satisfactorily in an official barrier trial over at least 850m before being permitted to start again.

Race 7: ADVANCED SERVICE CENTRE CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1200M

Track temperature – 18 degrees Celsius

In the early stages LOVE OUR GIRLS (R. Goltz) raced very keenly and for this reason had to be shifted out from behind LITTLE PIN UP GIRL (R. Ride) and allowed to stride forward.
