SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As apprentice R. Mercer was ill and P. Lo was not riding at the meeting, riding replacements were made as per the stewards summary.
Trainer G. Cornish was reprimanded for failing to declare S. Drake as the rider for LEMESEE (R1) KEZZ’S BOY (R4) by the prescribed time.
Race 1: Killarney Co-Op Maiden Plate 800m
TARNISHED REMARC (S. Fawke) and AMUNDSEN BOY (J. Kehoe) made contact at the start.
ALL TWISTED (D. McMaster) stood flat footed and lost ground.
LEMESEE (S. Drake) was tightened for room at the start between BEESNEST (R. Goltz) and TIPONI FORCE (B. Newport) which shifted out.
COLDWAR (D. Robinson) and VALLEY OF SUCCESS (D. McIntosh) began awkwardly.
MOOLAH MISS (A. Merritt) raced greenly in the early stages and near the 600m, shifted in taking ALL TWISTED which had improved quickly to its inside, inwards and crowding AMUNDSEN BOY which lost ground.
TIPONI FORCE shifted out abruptly at the 100m when placed under pressure.
R.Goltz reported that BEESNEST hung in for the majority of the race and that he was unable to fully test his mount in the straight until near the 100m.
Stewards questioned D. Robinson the rider of COLDWAR with regards to the performance of that runner. He stated that his mount began well and when being ridden forward, hung out from the 600m and lost ground. He added that he pulled the whip through into his left hand and that his mount straightened up approaching the home turn, however when placed under pressure, COLDWAR failed to finish the race off and was disappointing. Trainer T. Dougall will be advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of COLDWAR.
Race 2: Shirl & Sandy’s Gorgeous Coffee Lounge Class B Handicap 1100m
THAT’S JERRY (B. Newport) began awkwardly.
DUSTY PIUS (D. McIntosh) shifted out at the start and bumped MACKENZIE (K. Yoshida).
MAGIC TWIST (S. Fawke) and MR ASIA (J. Kehoe) were tightened for room between STEEL TO THE HEEL (W. O’Connell) and GEE AYE GEE GEE (S. Lanigan) which jumped out.
MAGIC TWIST, STEEL TO THE HEEL and GEE AYE GEE GEE race wide throughout.
S. Bogenhuber, the rider of MATTY’S SEQUEL, stated that her mount travelled well in the early stages however was under pressure from the 600m. She added that MATTY’S SEQUEL was having its first start since a spell and in her opinion failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.
J. Kehoe (MR ASIA) was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip in a backhand manner.
Race 3: Angus Wickham Memorial QTIS Maiden Plate 1200m
CASTLES SAKURA (K. Yoshida) and DUBSTEP (S. Apthorpe) bumped at the start.
SIR SUGARLOAF (D. McIntosh) which was slow to begin raced greenly shortly after the start and approaching the 800m resulting in that runner losing ground.
DARYL’S RUN (S. Bogenhuber) raced greenly in the early stages.
DARYL’S RUN shifted out abruptly away from HANDFUL OF SILVER (D. Robinson) near the 200m, DARYL’S RUN then hung out for the remainder of the event proving difficult to ride out.
When asked to explain the seemingly improved performance of MARY GO ROUND, trainer G. Watters stated that MARY GO ROUND had overraced at its most recent start at Beaudesert resulting in the horse failing to run out the distance of the race. He added that the horse had pulled up well from that run and had pleased him with its work during the week. He further added that while he was not confident today, he was expecting an improved performance.
A. Butler the rider of BE GOOD BELLA stated his mount never travelled at any stage of the event and weakened significantly from the 600m. A post race veterinary examination revealed BE GOOD BELLA to have mild myositis (Tying up) over the rump. Trainer L. Berger will be advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for BE GOOD BELLA before racing again.
Stewards opened an inquiry into J. Kehoe’s riding and tactics on ETERNO, in particular the reasons for him holding an extremely wide position on the track throughout the race. After taking evidence from J. Kehoe and trainer’s representative, Ms. T. Churchill, stewards adjourned the inquiry to have trainer B. Robinson present.
Race 4: Killarney Hotel/Motel Killarney Cup Benchmark 70 Handicap 1200m
Apprentice B. Newport was reprimanded for failing to claim his full allowance on HARDCORE PLAY.
STEPHEN GOT EVEN (S. Apthorpe) began awkwardly.
MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO (S. Bogenhuber) dipped at the start.
Leaving the 1100m PIPERS POINT (D. McIntosh) and MY BELLYDANCER (K. Yoshida) raced in restricted room between CAPPIN JACK (W. O’Connell) and STEPHEN GOT EVEN which shifted out.
TEA TATTLE (A. Butler) hung out under pressure in the home straight.
A. Merritt the rider of STREET SISTER, stated that it was the intention to ride his mount in a midfield position, however STREET SISTER was unable to muster sufficient speed to cross the runners to his inside and rather than race in a wide position, he elected to come back and obtain cover closer to the rail. He added that he was able to obtain inside runs and his mount finished the race off well.
S. Bogenhuber was reprimanded for failing to weigh in on fourth placegetter MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO.
Race 5: Warwick Credit Union Class 3 Handicap 1350m
HELLO I LOVE YOU (K. Yoshida) which was kicked behind the barriers underwent a veterinary examination and was passed to race.
REALEE (D. McMaster) began awkwardly and lost ground.
NIGHT WANDERER (D. Robinson) put its head down as the start was effected and lost ground.
HELLO I LOVE YOU was tightened for room between ILLUDE (J. Kehoe) which shifted out and bumped HELLO I LOVE YOU and FAIR EXPECTATIONS (S.Fawke) which shifted out and away from DOBROS (B. Ainsworth) which shifted out abruptly away from CAPTAIN FASTBUCK (R. Goltz). In this incident HELLO I LOVE YOU was crowded and lost ground.
Near the 900m SIPPIN’BUNDY (S. Bogenhuber) was eased when tightened for room by GENERAL BAXTER (B. Powell) which shifted in when not fully clear. B. Powell was severely reprimanded in this incident.
DOBROS and FAIR EXPECTATION raced wide throughout.
SIPPIN’BUNDY hung out under pressure in the home straight.
S. Apthorpe, the rider of LUCK FROM ABOVE, which performed below market expectations, stated that he was obliged to pressure his mount from the 1000m to hold his position, and in his opinion, his mount did not handle today’s track conditions.
J. Kehoe reported that ILLUDE did not handle the prevailing track conditions and felt that the horse had come to the end of its preparation. When contacted, trainer S. Hamilton was unable to explain the performance and would now discuss the future preparation of ILLUDE with connections.
