Race 1: Warwick Dailey News Maiden Plate 800m
Stewards declared SUCCESSIVE a late withdrawal at 11.52 am when trainer M. Webb provided a veterinary report stating that the mare had an abscess in its mouth and was unfit to race.
The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable the riders and trainers of STANDOVER and REDARELI which dead heated for second, along with stewards and the judge to view the official photo finish print. Upon viewing the print, stewards were unable to establish a margin between the runners and were satisfied with the judge’s decision and correct weight was given.
SAN TORO (C. Maund) was tightened for room at the start between GILLIAN (J. Letherby) and AS GOOD AS ME MUM (J. Kehoe) which shifted out.
CHOSEN COURT (N. Nishio) was slow to begin.
STANDOVER (N. Tomizawa) began awkwardly and then shifted out abruptly.
Near the 700m AS GOOD AS ME MUM attempted to buck for several strides and then shifted out and was checked from the heels of BEAUTIFUL BARB (A. Fancourt) which shifted in and away from CLEVER TRICK (T. Banks). Trainer K. Kelly was advised that AS GOOD AS ME MUM would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.
Near the 200m LIKE LALA (W. O'Connell) shifted out and away from REDARELI which forced SAN TORO (C. Maund) wider on the track.
REDARELI (D. Green) raced wide throughout. D. Green was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.
Race 2: Pursehouse Rural Class 3 Plate 1100m
AALEYAH was declared a late withdrawal at 1.35 pm by order of stewards after rearing in the barriers and dislodging jockey N.Tomizawa who sustained an injury to his left elbow and was declared unfit to ride.
Stewards ordered that all monies invested on AALEYAH be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1.35 pm:
10 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
12 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
11 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5
13 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #3
Trainer M. Webb was advised that AALEYAH would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. N. Tomizawa was transported to Warwick Hospital for precautionary x-rays. Rider replacements were made as per the stewards summary.
DESERT PLAYBOY (D. Green) began awkwardly and shifted out.
BUILT TOUGH (D. McMaster) raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Bill Hoiberg Memorial Maiden Handicap (1) 1200m
Subsequent to any further submissions, trainer S. Connolly was fined $100 for the late notification of a gear change of blinkers on for DON THE CAT.
Trainer B. Hudson was reprimanded for negligence, in that he incorrectly applied the saddle cloth to DAME DELLA which necessitated that runner having to be resaddled.
Stewards declared DAME DELLA (J. Grob) a late withdrawal after the mare reared in the barriers and dislodged jockey J. Grob, who sustained an injury to his left ankle and was unable to fulfil his engagement. STONEWALL (D. Green) was declared a withdrawal at 2.25 pm on veterinary advice when that runner reared in the barriers and became cast and then got down in the barriers.
Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DAME DELLA and STONEWALL be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2.25 pm:
15 cents in the dollar for the Win #7
16 cents in the dollar for place of winner #7
15 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #8
13 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #6
Trainer B. Hudson was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of DAME DELLA. Trainer M. Webb was advised that STONEWALL would be required to officially trial prior to being permitted to race again.
RAPT IN SECRECY was declared a further late withdrawal at 2.29 pm when that runner became fractious and reared up in the barriers resulting in jockey F. Jervis sustaining injuries to both lower legs and being unable to ride.
Stewards ordered that all monies invested on RAPT IN SECRECY be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed between 2.25 pm and 2.29 pm:

12 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #8

Trainer H. Bown was advised that a warning would be placed against the barrier manners of RAPT IN SECRECY.
CLUELESS (C. Maund) shifted out at the start and bumped DON THE CAT (W. O’Connell).
HENRY’S SPUR (S. Apthorpe) was slow into stride and lost significant ground.
MISS GIBRALTAR (S.Fawke) raced greenly for a short distance after the start.
Near the 1000m STRATEGIC PEACE (B. Newport) shifted in resulting in MY JOY SUE (B. Ainsworth) being steadied and shifting in and bumping BEST MEMORARY (N. Nishio) which became unbalanced. B. Newport was severely reprimanded and reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
CLUELESS hung out under pressure over the concluding stages resulting in the rider having to stop riding and straighten.
Race 4: Bill Hoiberg Memorial Maiden Handicap (2) 1200m
TONI’S LUCK (N. Ogura) was slow to begin and lost ground.
ZAHASEA (B. Newport) and OUR PLAYDOUGH (W. O’Connell) made heavy contact at the start.
LETS THINKABOUT IT (A .Fancourt) raced wide throughout.
Near the 500m MEDIA WIN (J. Kehoe) which was racing ungenerously shifted out and was steadied from the heels of OUR PLAYDOUGH.
MORVEN (N. Nishio) laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
J. Letherby reported at scale that ARAGON laid out in the home straight and as a result he was not able to fully test his mount.
A post race veterinary examination of MEDIA WIN which weakened in the home straight failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: Raheen Stud/Carey Bros Open Handicap 1200m
CAPPIN JACK (W. O’Connell) and SPINADA (N. Evans) made heavy contact at the start.
ARCTIC COMMAND (A. Fancourt) began awkwardly.
Near the 1000m CAPPIN JACK and SPINADA raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of STREET SISTER (S. Fawke) which laid in despite the efforts of the rider.
SPINADA shifted out at the 800m and in doing so, forced ARCTIC COMMAND and IMA JOKER wider on the track.
Leaving the 200m, CAPPIN JACK when attempting a narrow run, was buffeted between FEAR NO OTHER (R. Goltz) and TYCOONS PRIDE which shifted out slightly.
A post race veterinary examination of TYCOON’S PRIDE revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer P. Sexton was advised that as this was the first occasion TYCOON’S PRIDE had bled, it would now incur a mandatory 3 month bar from racing and would be required to gallop over 1000m to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.
Stewards sought comment from N. Nishio the rider of IMA JOKER with regards to the performance of that runner. N. Nishio stated his instructions were to settle off the speed due the increase in distance today. He added that after his mount began awkwardly he settled back further than he anticipated after runners to his outside crossed him. He further added that he was forced wider on the track near the 800m and instead of racing wide he elected to come back and obtain a position near the rail. He went on to say that he placed IMA JOKER under pressure from the 500m and that his mount finished the race off well.
Race 6: Membership Renewal Class B Handicap 1350m
AMBERS GOLD (B. Ainsworth) and DANZ ART (S. Apthorpe) were slow to begin.
IRISH GIG (D. Green) overraced from the 1100m and near the 800m hung out and was checked from the heels of GRAND ELEGANCE.
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 400m, in which IRISH GIG was severely checked from the heels of GRAND ELEGANCE. Stewards after taking evidence from the riders involved found that AMBERS GOLD shifted out to improve forcing IRISH GIG wider on the track, IRISH GIG then failed to make the home turn and shifted out further and was checked from the heels of GRAND ELEGANCE. In the circumstances, stewards were mindful of the evidence of jockey D. Green, specifically that IRISH GIG had hung out and given him a torrid ride throughout the event, and therefore took no further action however did advise Apprentice B. Ainsworth (AMBERS GOLD) to exercise care when shifting ground. Stewards advised trainer D. Murphy that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of IRISH GIG.
