Race 1: The Rock Building Society Maiden Handicap- 1100 metres
1st Alyichi 2nd Alotta Mojo 3rd Tent Humour 4th- Coolowie

The start of this race was delayed approximately 15 minutes when the veterinary surgeon was late arriving on course.

When the nasal strip was unable to be applied to GO LADDIE (K. Gates), stewards permitted it to race without the nasal strip. A public announcement was made.

ALOTTA MOJO (C. Pye) had to be resaddled at the barriers.

COOLOWIE (D. McWhinney) began awkwardly.

GEE I MAY (T. O'Hara) was slow to begin.

MUM SAID NO (D. Hayse) jumped in at the start and tightened ALOTTA MOJO on to ALYICHI (I. Coombes).

Near the 700m TENT HUMOUR (T. Bannon) hung out.

Near the 700m MUM SAID NO hung out and lost ground, and in doing so GOTTAGET (D. Missen) was taken wider on the track, and raced wide for the remainder of the race.

Near the 100m COOLOWIE shifted out slightly, taking GEE I MAY out, causing CRYSTALS’N’PEARLS to be hampered.

A. Kitson (CRYSTALS’N’PEARLS) reported that her mount was inclined to lay in throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from D. Missen regarding the performance of GOTTAGET. D. Missen stated that the gelding had sweated up badly due to the delayed race start and after suffering inconvenience near the 700m had failed to travel for the remainder of the event and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of GOTTAGET revealed no abnormalities.

Race 2: Ironfarmers Parts & Equipment Maiden Handicap- 1100 metres
1st Arcano 2nd Iriana Wil 3rd Kidancho’s Delight 4th- Afleet Assassin

Due to the delay in the start of Race 1, Race 2 was rescheduled to start at 12:50 PM, and Race 3 to start at 1:28 PM.

IRIANA WIL (S. McGovern) shifted out abruptly at the start and inconvenienced BJORN (I. Coombes) and COCO HEART (A. Kitson), which were tightened between IRIANA WIL (S. McGovern) and ARCANO (S. Sheargold).

HEJARA PRINCESS (T. Bannon) and KIDANCHO’S DELIGHT (D. Simmons) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 700m BJORN, which had commenced to overrace, hung out and had to be checked from the heels of BATTLER'S GOLD (D. Missen). BJORN then continued to overrace in the middle stages and near the 200m was awkwardly placed on the heels of BATTLER’S GOLD.

DRAGON GOLD (D. Hayse) was inclined to lay in in the straight.

Jockey S. Sheargold was fined $200 under AR. 145 for returning to scale half a kilogram over his allotted riding weight.

Race 3: Peter Conaghan Electrical QTIS 2YO Handicap- 1100 metres
1st Vicoray 2nd Showamia 3rd Rapid Crystal 4th- Ebony Echo

Trainer P. Fleming was fined $100 for the late declaration of D. Missen as the rider of RAPID CRYSTAL.

EBONY ECHO (L. Dillon) began awkwardly.

NOM DE PLUME (C. Pye) was slow into stride.

VICORAY (J. Stephens) began awkwardly.

Approaching the 700m VICORAY hung out and forced CRAIGLEA KALBAR (A. Coome) wider on the track.

A post-race veterinary examination of NOM DE PLUME revealed no abnormalities. In relation to its uncompetitive performance, trainer M. Hassam advised stewards that she would consider sending NOM DE PLUME for a spell or she would restrict it to competing at non-TAB events. On the basis of this advice, stewards took no action.

Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance and riding of CRAIGLEA KALBAR (A. Coome) in the early stages of the event where it appeared he was able to obtain a more forward position or possibly lead. Jockey Coome stated that he was of the opinion to take up a position outside the expected leader, RAPID CRYSTAL, similar to its previous start, and at that stage of the race he was unable to improve and cross to the lead when VICORAY had improved quickly to his inside. Stewards were of the opinion that while an opportunity existed for him to cross and be in a position as instructed, they were mindful that he could not have ridden accordingly as VICORAY had improved quickly to his inside. Jockey Coome further stated that after being hampered near the 700m the gelding had failed to handle the track and had proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA KALBAR revealed no significant abnormalities.

Race 4: Thomas Betta Electrical QTIS 3YO Handicap- 1200 metres
1st Vain Dazzler 2nd Pygmy Hunter 3rd Hidden Prayer 4th- Blackjack Davey

HIDDEN PRAYER (T. O’Hara) bounded in the air on jumping.

BLACKJACK DAVEY (S. Sheargold) was slow to begin.

PYGMY HUNTER (D. McWhinney) raced keenly in the early stages and overraced for a short distance leaving the 700m.

Near the 700m VAIN DAZZLER (C. Pye) rolled in slightly and caused BLACKJACK DAVEY to be eased.

Trainer C. Garland advised stewards that jockey D. Hayse had reported that VATICAN'S STAR had overraced in the early and middle stages and that the saddle had slipped forward and that the gelding had pulled up somewhat distressed after its engagement.

Race 5: Day to Day Constructions Class 2 Handicap- 1300 metres
1st Damalo 2nd Hot Shot Sister 3rd Western York 4th- Craiglea Carina

FICKLE BUSINESS was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.31 PM after the horse became fractious and escaped under the front of its barrier. HOT SHOT SISTER (C. Pye), CRAIGLEA CARINA (D. Hayse) and WESTERN YORK (A. Kitson) were removed from their barriers, underwent veterinary examinations and cleared to take their place in the field. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on FICKLE BUSINESS be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to scratching time:

2 cents in the dollar for the Win – DAMALO
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner – DAMALO
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place – HOT SHOT SISTER

Trainer K. McGovern was advised that prior to the gelding’s next start he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for the gelding and it would also be required to barrier jump out.

VIVA FORTE (L. Dillon) began awkwardly and made contact with the hind quarters of TRYSTA (A. Pattillo), which shifted in further and further hampered VIVA FORTE.

In relation to the performance of TRYSTA, jockey A. Pattillo stated that the horse’s previous start had been on a heavy track, which may have been detrimental to its performance.

Race 6: Park Avenue Hotel Class 1 Handicap- 900 metres
1st For Love Alone 2nd Ballroom Dance 3rd Emotionally Yours 4th- Tellkane

C. McIver replaced D. Hayse as the rider of CRAIGLEA STELLAR.

DAVANNA (A. Kitson) began awkwardly.

FOR LOVE ALONE (C. Pye) raced wide throughout.

Race 7: XXXX Gold Open Handicap- 1300 metres

SIR VAN TEES (C. Pye) was slow into stride.

From near the 700m until a short distance afterwards, SPEEDSKATER (D. McWhinney) raced in restricted room to the inside of MARTIROS (S. Sheargold).

SEVENTH HEART (I. Coombes) raced wide throughout.

Race 8: www.callaghanpark.com.au BM 65 Handicap- 1100 metres
1st Harvzee 2nd Private Chat 3rd Click Up 4th- Craiglea Gee Tee

QUEEN OF HAPPINESS (C. Pye) jumped in at the start taking SUTTON BRAVE (S. Sheargold) inwards on to VANCOUVER GOLD (C. McIver), which was hampered.

BOSE (L. Dillon) began awkwardly and unbalanced the rider.

MARMILLION (D. Missen), PROSPECTOR BOB (C. Jokic) and PRIVATE CHAT (K. Gates) raced wide throughout.

Stewards sought an explanation from S. Sheargold regarding the performance of SUTTON BRAVE. Jockey Sheargold stated that the performance was disappointing and that although the gelding had travelled well, when placed under pressure from near the 300m it failed to respond to his riding. S. Sheargold further stated that at its previous start the gelding was able to lead, however when unable to do so today that may have been detrimental to its performance and that the weight carried today may also have affected it.
