GENERAL
Stewards inquired into a complaint lodged by Bookmaker’s Clerk, Mr. Paul Turner against Licensed Bookmaker W. Leyden regarding issues at Bluff on 23rd February and Thangool on 25th May, 2013. After hearing evidence from Mr. Turner, Mr Leyden, and Bookmaker’s Clerk, M. Edmonston, Mr Leyden admitted to refusing Mr Turner a bet in breach of BR 8. Whilst Stewards considered imposing a more severe penalty giving consideration to the mitigating circumstances Mr Leyden was fined 200.
Stewards opened an inquiry into a further complaint lodged by Mr. P Turner against Licensed Bookmaker, Mr R. Crow (Snr) from Thangool on 12th September, 2013. After hearing initial evidence, this matter was adjourned to allow further investigation.
Race 1: The Paint Barn QTIS 3YO Handicap - 900 metres
1st –GYMNASTIQUE 2nd – TALK TOUGH 3rd – CHATEAU D’OR 4th- SIMON BON ROCKET
Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey D. Evans and Stewards to view the patrol film of the start to ascertain if SIMON BON ROCKET was afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected, the gelding reared, was slow to begin and, as a result, lost ground. Jockey Evans did not wish to proceed with an application to be declared a non-runner and correct weight was declared. A warning would be placed against SIMON BON ROCKET.
Jockey Evans reported SIMON BON ROCKET was inclined to lay out in the straight.
BELLA ROCKET began awkwardly, was slow into stride and lost ground.
Near the 600 metres, DAZZLING MAGIC (D. Philpot) brushed the running rail and shifted out slightly, taking CHATEAU D’OR (D. Hayse) outwards and cause TALK TOUGH (L. Dillon) to be tightened between CHATEAU D’OR and GYMNASTIQUE (A. Coome) and checked after shifting out across the heels of GYMNASTIQUE.
Race 2: Pacific Hotel Maiden Handicap - 1100 metres
1st – COPY THIS 2nd – COOLOWIE 3rd – ROYAL JESS 4th – JACKSON MAGIC
On jumping, I’LL GO IF HUGO (D. Hayse) shifted out abruptly and dislodged Jockey Hayse. Trainer J. Pointon advised the gelding will be required to trial prior to its next race start.
ROYAL JESS (J. Stephens) and COOLOWIE (A. Coome) made contact when ROYAL JESS jumped inwards.
From approximately the 800 metres until near the 400 metres, MIMI’S ROCKET (C. Pye) hung out severely. A post-race veterinary inspection did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised the mare would be required to trial over 800 metres or more prior to its next race start.
Jockey D. Hayse stated he was capable of fulfilling his remaining engagements.
Race 3: Bank of Queensland Yeppoon Class B Handicap - 1000 metres
1st – ISA TALA 2nd – PAPARAZZI 3rd – LATIN KING 4th – THE CONDUCTOR
APACHE SOX (D. Hayse) began awkwardly.
ME FAST TOO (D. Whitmore) and PASEEM (C. Pye) made contact on jumping and as a result PASEEM lost ground.
Near the 800 metres, ME FAST TOO hung out slightly and raced wide for the remainder of the race.
THE CONDUCTOR (D. Philpot) and ROSE OF LAWRENCE (E. Heinemann) raced wide throughout the race.
Correct weight was delayed to permit Jockey D. Philpot to view the photo finish print for third. After doing, Jockey Philpot was satisfied as to the judging’s placing and correct weight was declared.
Race 4: Regal’s Dental Class 3 Plate - 1400 metres
1st – THE PANTZ 2nd – NORDIC JET 3rd – GAILAMOUR 4th – DANE FIRE
The start of this race was delayed when NOBODY’S BOY (A. Coome) required re-saddling on arrival behind the barriers.
NORDIC JET (L. Dillon) over-raced in the early stages.
NORDIC JET and SOUTHSIDE (S. Evans) raced three wide in the early stages.
Near 200 metres, THE PANTZ (S. McGovern) was accidently struck by the whip of Jockey D. Hayse.
Regarding the performance of NOBODY’S BOY, Jockey Coome reported the gelding had failed to travel well throughout and that connections had indicated NOBODY’S BOY may now be spelled. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed a small laceration to its off hind fetlock.
Race 5: G. J Gardner Yeppoon Newmarket Open Handicap- 1300 metres
1st – SCHRAPNEL GULLY 2nd – RED STORY 3rd – DUMUZI 4th – FICKLE BUSINESS
The start of this race was delayed when STREETFIRE (L. Dillon) required re-saddling on arrival behind the barriers.
RED STORY (C. Pye) raced three wide throughout the race.
Leaving the 800 metres, FALLS CREEK broke down and was retired from the race. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed the gelding has fractured both sesamoids in its near fore fetlock and was subsequently euthanized.
