Race 1: Koorelah Farms Class 1 Handicap – 1470 metres:
1st – ARISTON 2nd – HAPPY JONES 3rd – KATTER 4th – CANDY MOMENT
CANDY MOMENT (M. Elliott) was slow to begin.
COURT AFFAIRE (App E. Ljung) raced wide throughout.
SMART STUFF (M. Usher) and HAPPY JONES (T. Bannon) over raced in the early and middle stages.
Near the 150 metre mark CANDY MOMENT (M. Elliott) was disappointed for a run and had to be eased between KATTER (App S. Cook) and HAPPY JONES (T. Bannon) both of which shifted.
Race 2: Allen Hotels Maiden Plate – 1000 metres:
1st – BASHIGA 2nd – LITTLE ANNIEROCKET 3rd – GOODNESS GRACIOUS 4th – MONTAGO
At the start GOODNESS GRACIOUS (G. Kliese) was tightened for room between OAKFIELD COUNT (App S. Cook) and LITTLE ANNIEROCKET (T. Bannon) both of which shifted.
OAKFIELD COUNT (App S. Cook) raced wide throughout.
When questioned as to the seemingly disappointing performance of OAKFIELD COUNT Apprentice S. Cook stated that he was forced to raced wide throughout and had to place the gelding under pressure for most of the event. S. Cook further added that OAKFIELD COUNT may have failed to back up from its recent Mackay start on the Tuesday. Trainer J. Manzelmann stated that he agreed with the comments of App Cook and would now space the horse’s starts in the near future. Stewards noted there comments.
Race 3: QCOAL Group Class B Handicap – 1280 metres:
1st – BROCHETTE 2nd – TANMEYYA 3rd – BUCASIA BEACH 4th – SHUFFLES
Apprentice K. Grace reported that BROCHETTE was unable to lead which is its customary racing pattern as the gelding failed to muster any speed and was slow to begin.
SHUFFLES (App S. Cook) was slow to begin.
SHUFFLES (App S. Cook) raced wide in the early and middle stages.
IVERADACIOUS (G. Kliese) raced wide in the early stages.
Race 4: Whitsunday Coast Guardian – Whitsunday Cup Class 3 Plate – 1100 metres:
1st – EXCEED ALL LIMITS 2nd – WE WILL ROCK 3rd – DECADERO 4th – DANGAR DIVA
CRAIGLEA STELLAR (App S. Cook) had a tendency to lay out under pressure throughout the home straight.
On returning to the scales Jockey T. Bannon reported that her mount BEDROCK BETTY was fractious in the gates and began very awkwardly losing considerable ground. Jockey Bannon further added that the mare may have resented the tongue tie which may have contributed to the poor performance. Trainer J. Manzelmann agreed with the comments of Jockey Bannon and indicated he would now remove the tongue tie from the mares gear for its next start.
Race 5: Delacey Leading Appliance – 150 Anniversary Cup Open Handicap – 1470 metres
1st – KNUTE 2nd – BARLEY AN ANGEL 3rd – OUR BOY LUKAS 4th – MIGHTY MITE
BARELY AN ANGEL (G. Kliese) was slow to begin.
APACHE PUP (M. Elliott) over-raced in the early and middle stages and raced wide throughout.
Jockey T. Bannon reported that her mount MOHTASHEM which raced disappointingly had been competitive over further distances then todays event, adding the drop back to the 1470 metres from the 1800 metres did not suit. Trainer J. Manzelmann agreed with the comments of Jockey Bannon. Stewards noted there comments.
