SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Stewards heard a submission from Jockey S. Morris that he sought to receive payment for a riding fee that he was of the opinion he was entitled to. He stated that he was informed by Trainer W.Baker on Monday the 21st of October 2013 that he would ride one of his two horses entered in today’s maiden race. He further stated that when he saw the acceptances on Thursday the 24th of October 2013 he observed that he was not riding one of the horses mentioned. Morris also stated that he has had no communication with the Trainer since that date and felt Mr Baker was obliged to pay him a riding fee as he had given up other offers to ride other horses in that race to ride for Mr Baker, which did not eventuate.

Stewards spoke to Mr Baker and informed him of Jockey Morris’s submission. Mr Baker advised Stewards he would agree to pay the riding fee to Jockey Morris.

Approaching the turn into the straight C’MON YVONNE began to hang out badly and then veered out further towards the outside running rail. Despite the rider’s best efforts the mare it continued to hang out over the concluding stages of the event. Apprentice Jockey Ms G. Steele stated that when trying to correct her mount from hanging, the mare drifted wider and lost considerable ground when racing on an inferior part of the track. When questioned regarding the racing manners of C’MON YVONNE, trainer Mr T Mead advised stewards that he has only had the horse for a brief period of time and was working on its manners including gear changes. Mr Mead stated that the horse appeared to be travelling well early but may have been going too quickly leading into the turn adding that the horse didn’t appear to have locked onto the bit being used. Stewards in noting the comments from both rider and trainer allowed the trainer an opportunity to correct the horse’s manners however recorded an official warning against the racing manners of C’MON YVONNE.
