WEATHER – FINE TRACK - DEAD RAIL - OUT 9.5M ALL TRACK
GENERAL: As G Colless was indisposed, stewards permitted the following riding replacements:

Apprentice S Morris was found guilty of a charge of disobeying a direction of an official in that he failed to produce a medical clearance as requested. S Morris was fined $100.
RACE 1: GUNSYND GARDEN H'CAP - 2250M
TANBRIDGE WAY pulled fiercely in the early stages.
A Pattillo, the rider of TOP KALA, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 1400m when not sufficiently clear of STYLISH CHANEL resulting in that horse being steadied.
When questioned, G Duffy stated that whilst ZATOPEK had pulled hard in the early stages, the horse relaxed after leaving the 1200m and travelled well from that point. He added that prior to the turn he felt that ZATOPEK would sprint and would be in the placegetters, however failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing in finishing last. ZATOPEK was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that he could find no abnormality at the time of inspection. A swab sample was taken from ZATOPEK.
RACE 2: FAST TRACK TO FUN H'CAP - 1200M
Y Oto was dislodged from DON’T SNOW ME after it made contact with the fence during its preliminary. DON’T SNOW ME was withdrawn acting on veterinary advice at 1.01 p.m. when that horse sustained a puncture wound to the chest and lacerations to the inside heel and the outside cannon of the off hind leg. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on DON’T SNOW ME be refunded with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets applicable.
KENSINGTON QUEEN blundered on jumping away.
SHE’S A TAAN jumped away awkwardly and shifted in taking VOWORANA in on to BALLY ROBYN, causing BALLY ROBYN to be hampered. SHE’S A TAAN continued to lay in for some distance after this incident.
L Hill, the rider of KENSINGTON QUEEN, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 1100m when not clear of NINA BALLERINA, causing NINA BALLERINA to be steadied.
RACE 3: MEMBERS H'CAP - 1200M
DASHING HERB jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Trainer P Duff indicated that he will trial DASHING HERB before starting the colt again.
Near the 400m SHADAT had to be steadied when tightened for room by FORMAL AFFAIR which improved quickly to the inside of ATTACKER.
ATTACKER was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
RACE 4: PRIVATE BOXES H'CAP - 1200M
SAHARA EXPRESS jumped away awkwardly and made heavy contact with OCHINEE, causing that horse to lose ground.
Near the 900m DISTINCTLY FRENCH shifted in when being ridden along and made heavy contact with the running rail. A veterinary examination of DISTINCTLY FRENCH failed to reveal any abnormality.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that MONSOON MARGARET sustained a laceration to the outside of the off fore cannon.
RACE 5: MIDWEEK H'CAP - 1350M
YABEEL jumped in at the start taking HIS LEGACY in on to PARIS TRIUMPH.
BEST ASCENT jumped away awkwardly.
When questioned J Taylor, the rider of YABEEL, reported that he was instructed to lead, however after jumping away awkwardly he rode the mare vigorously to obtain a position close to the lead, but was unable to do so and after leaving the 1200m had to be restrained off the heels of WHAT A DEVIL which shifted in slightly. J Taylor added that the mare wanted to hang in in the straight and was most disappointing. The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that he could find no abnormality at the time of inspection and a swab sample was taken from YABEEL.
RACE 6: DOOMBEN DASH - 1040M
FINAL FORECAST was slow to begin.
After entering the straight BOOROONGA had to be checked when tightened for room between DANAJIVA and FINAL FORECAST which improved quickly to the outside of the heels of ALANOR LAD which also shifted out. A Parramore, the rider of ALANOR LAD, was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he must ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that BOOROONGA was suffering from cardiac arrhythmia following the event. BOOROONGA must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial, undergo a thorough veterinary examination and provide stewards with the results of an ECG prior to its next race start.
RACE 7: BTC H'CAP - 1650M
CURRAJONG KING was very slow to begin and shifted out abruptly.
UNISHAK pulled hard in the early and middle stages.
After passing the 700m WHERE’S PALMWOODS shifted in and tightened the running of MIDSHIPMEN ALL. As a result of the tightening MIDSHIPMEN ALL brushed the running rail on a number of occasions and after passing the 600m shifted out and made heavy contact with WHERE’S PALMWOODS. Whilst stewards acknowledged that MIDSHIPMEN ALL had overreacted to the tightening, M Cahill, the rider of WHERE’S PALMWOODS, was nonetheless reminded of his obligations to allow sufficient racing room to runners to his inside.
After leaving the 700m CANADIAN COMET attempted to improve to the outside of the heels of WHERE’S PALMWOODS and in doing so made contact with LUKE’S LOOT on a number of occasions.
After leaving the 500m CANADIAN COMET was unable to improve and approaching the home turn had to be steadied off the heels of WHERE’S PALMWOODS which shifted in slightly.
RACE 8: TREASURY CASINO H'CAP - 1200M
GALACTIC ROMEO was slow to begin.
SOAR jumped inwards at the start and made contact with MILITARY ASSASSIN and as a result MILITARY ASSASSIN shifted in, brushed the running rail and had to be checked.
Prior to the home turn SURPRISE ATTACK had to be restrained when disappointed for a run to the inside of SHAZAM.
ALL WINNERS, ZATOPEK AND YABEEL WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
