BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.25.7.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman); Mr G. Ireland; Mr C. Clifford; Mr R. Sanders; Mr W. Flynn.

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 2.5M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: FM 104 TRIPLE M H'CAP - 2100M.

No incidents.

RACE 2: MOET & CHANDON SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.

Trainer P. Moody was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for BELLATRIX by the required time.

SMART CHAT was a late scratching at 11.30 a.m. when stewards were notified by the connections that they had over looked scratching the horse by the required time. Trainer J. Beadman was fined the sum of $200 for negligence.

CANTANTES jumped away awkwardly.

MAIZY DAYS was slow to begin..

CANTANTES and ROYAL CASHEL were caught wide after the start and were obliged to race wide for the majority of the race.

When being restrained to take a trail behind MISS MARTINDALE leaving the 1000m., HAAYIL MARY commenced to overrace.

When racing in restricted room to the inside of GROOVY LADY passing the 800m., CAPTO made heavy contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.

HAAYIL MARY, which was racing greenly, shifted in under pressure, inconveniencing CAPTO near the 100m..

LADY TATIANA was held up for clear running for the majority of the straight.


RACE 3: TREASURY CASINO CONSOLATION H'CAP - 1200M.

Jockey D. Griffin was fined $50 for negligence in that he attempted to weigh out without his irons.

FLORACE jumped outwards at the start, hampering WAVERLEY WONDER and JUST THE BEST.

PINK PONTIAC and O'REILLY FACTOR made contact on jumping away.

When racing ungenerously near the 1000m., PINK PONTIAC shifted out, hampering O'REILY FACTOR. PINK PONTIAC hung out rounding the first turn and continued to do so for the remainder of the event. Trainer D. Duke was advised that the filly would be barred from racing until it trials to the satisfaction of the stewards. A veterinary examination of PINK PONTIAC revealed the filly was slightly shin sore in the near foreleg, and had sustained 2 lacerations to the front of the off hind pastern.

In the vicinity of 200m., EXCELLENT raced in restricted room between JUST THE BEST and MELOIDIA, which shifted out to improve.

MELOIDIA was momentarily unbalanced rounding the home turn.


RACE 4: GLENLOGAN PARK STUD H'CAP - 1615M.

CENTRAL WEST blundered badly on jumping away.

After being taken 3 wide to improve near the 600m., VASILIEV was inclined to lay in.

DE KOONING was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

J. Warrington, rider of LETAINE, was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out near the 300m., causing DEKOONING to be tightened for room.

DEKOONING could not attain clear running over the concluding stages of the race.

G. Colless, rider of DEKOONING, reported that his whip became entangled in the in the horse's mane after leaving the 300m..

Approaching the finishing line, VASILIEV, which had a tendency to lay in, made contact with CENTRAL WEST. As a result of its tendency to lay in, M. Pelling, rider of VASILIEV reported that he was restricted in riding his mount right out to the finish.


RACE 5: GUINNESS AUSTRALIA SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.

As N. Jolly was indisposed, S. Katsidis was substituted as the rider of ORIGINAL PRANGSTER.

KIBOSH was a late scratching at 2.28 p.m. when the horse was unable to be loaded into the barriers. Following the late withdrawal, all monies invested on KIBOSH were ordered to be refunded in full and no deductions applied. Trainer B. McLachlan was advised that KIBOSH will be required to pass a barrier test before being permitted to race again.

SANDY GALLOP jumped outwards at the start, inconveniencing PALE RIDER.

ECSTASY shifted inwards at the start and made contact with ENEMY FIRE.

Rounding the first turn, AWESOME NIGHT, when inclined to overrace, shifted out away from the heels of WAGSTAFFE, taking BE THERE wider on the track.

Upon straightening, BE THERE, when being eased into clear running, struck the heels of AWESOME NIGHT and blundered.

An inquiry was held into the apparent poor performance of ENEMY FIRE, which after being brushed by ECTASY, which shifted in at the start, failed to muster pace in the early stages and despite being hard ridden, and on occasions with the whip, failed to make any significant ground and finished at the rear of the field. M. Cahill stated that after being the first horse loaded, ENEMY FIRE was in the barriers for a lengthy period of time whilst the start was delayed due to KIBOSH proving difficult to load, and he was of the opinion that ENEMY FIRE may have lost concentration due to the lengthy time in the barriers. He further explained that after being crossed by other runners shortly after the start, the colt failed to respond to his riding and appeared to lack interest in racing. Trainer G. Ryan indicated that ENEMY FIRE had trialled satisfactorily prior to today's event and was disappointed with its performance today. In light of the poor performance, trainer G. Ryan undertook to barrier trial the horse before racing again, and advised that he would notify the stewards of anything that may come to his attention subsequent to the race which may have had any bearing on performance of ENEMY FIRE. A veterinary examination was ordered on the horse, however the surgeon reported that at the time of examination he could find no abnormality, and a swab sample was taken from ENEMY FIRE.


RACE 6: ANSETT AUSTRALIA H'CAP SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1350M.

R. Goltz did not appear as the notified rider of HE'S A TREASURE. Due to a clerical error, no action was taken.

Jockey L. Roberts was fined $50 for being late leaving the jockeys' room.

JUST CASSIDY and JAYWALKER were slow to begin.

COMET DANCER was inclined to hang in over the concluding stages of the race.

JUST CASSIDY was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 200m., ARBEE, whilst under pressure and compounding, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HE'S A TREASURE, which shifted out to improve.


RACE 7: COURIER MAIL H'CAP - 1110M.

OZZEL was slow to begin.

BOSSIE GAL jumped away awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

After rounding the first turn, AVAN RANCH shifted out slightly, forcing GRANLASSUE to be steadied off the heels of RAMSTADIUS.

When questioned concerning the performance of RAMSTADIUS, D. Wheeler explained that after being a little slow to jump, the horse was caught wide from its outside barrier and was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race. He explained that shortly after entering the straight, RAMSTADIUS had a tendency to lay in and he was obliged to change the whip into his right hand.




RACE 8: CARLTON DRAUGHT H'CAP - 1200M.

PIONEER and APPALACHE were slow to begin.

K. Bell, rider of SCHUMANN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 300m., causing MCRAVE to be checked and lose ground. K. Bell was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 29 July, and to expire at midnight, 9 August 2001.


RACE 9. HAROLD GILDER H'CAP - 1350M.

No racing incidents.


ALL WINNERS AND ENEMY FIRE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
