WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD RAIL - TRUE POSITION
RACE 1: JACOBSEN BLOODSTOCK H'CAP - 1010M.
EYECUE and AFRICAN QUEEN were slow to begin.
FAIRY QUEEN jumped away very awkwardly and shifted in abruptly, hampering CHRISCAY.
Soon after the start, KOOTENAY attempted to buck. This was drawn to the attention of trainer J. P. Wallace.
RACE 2: DOOMBEN DOUBLE H'CAP - 1010M.
NEDSCAY raced greenly in the middle stages and was reluctant to hold its position inside DARBUNDY.
On the home turn and again upon straightening, MALTESE LINER was inconvenienced by WEARING THE GREEN, which was inclined to lay in when racing greenly.
Approaching the 300m., MALTESE LINER made contact with WEARING THE GREEN when shifting out to obtain clear running.
RACE 3: GOLDEN SNAKE SUPER QRIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.
Leaving the 800m., POETIC HEIGHTS had to be steadied off the heels of OCTAVIAN when taken in slightly by BAAL YABBA.
At the 500m., ROAD TO HEAVEN had to be checked off the heels of EMPEROR STAR, which at that stage lost a little ground. MIGHTY STRONGHOLD, which was following, was also checked.
Near the 250m., RUN JUST RUN had to be checked when disappointed for a run to the inside of CAPE SERIUS where there was doubtful room.
Approaching the 200m., MIGHTY STRONGHOLD was impeded for a run between POETIC HEIGHTS and OCTAVIAN, which shifted out slightly under pressure.
BAAL YABBA was obliged to race wide during the event.
RACE 4: HARRY PLANT H'CAP - 1615M.
ERIC blundered on jumping away.
Shortly after the start, SPORTS FREAK was hampered when tightened for room by PUKEKO, which shifted in.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ERIC, apprentice L. Meech stated that after blundering at the start, ERIC again had a tendency to overrace in the early stages. Trainer P. Moody indicated that ERIC would be sent for a spell.
RACE 5: MR INNOCENT H'CAP - 2100M.
At the 1400m., KINGCIDON improved quickly behind LEGAL EXPRESS, clipped the heels of that gelding and blundered badly. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that LEGAL EXPRESS had sustained lacerations to the outside of the near hind cannon and off hock.
When SANDY SEA commenced to lost ground quickly approaching the home turn, KINGCIDON was obliged to shift out abruptly off the heels of that gelding, resulting in LITTLE KATERI being severely crowded. A veterinary examination of SANDY SEA, which compounded badly in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 6: ATHOL MULLEY H'CAP - 1350M.
VIANGAR and MALLET were slow to begin.
SIR PAK was obliged to race wide in the event.
A veterinary examination of FRISKY STAR, which performed poorly, revealed the gelding to be suffering from heart arrythmia. Trainer J. Fitzgerald was advised that FRISKY STAR must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and undergo an ECG test prior to racing again. A swab sample was taken from FRISKY STAR.
RACE 7: BERNBOROUGH H'CAP - 1615M.
PRINCE HAKEEM was declared a late scratching at 12.52 p.m. acting on veterinary advice from the club's veterinary surgeon, who indicated that the horse was found to be bleeding from the off nostril on arrival at the course.
KIWI WARRIOR was slow to begin.
Leaving the 800m., STORMY LODGE had to be checked off the heels of FEDERAL AGENT, which at that stage lost a little ground when pulling hard.
At the 500m., BAILS was momentarily placed in restricted room between SEA BREEZE and PLAY STATION.
G. Duffy, rider of SEA BREEZE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he directed his mount out around the heels of FEDERAL AGENT near the 200m. when not clear of SO PRECISE, resulting in SO PRECISE being checked when tightened on to ALPINE EXPRESS. G. Duffy was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 6 January, and to expire at midnight, 20 January 2002. It was established that BAILS had also shifted in slightly near the 200m., hampering ALINE EXPRESS and thereby contributing slightly to the tightening suffered by SO PRECISE. S. Katsidis, rider of BAILS, was cautioned and reminded of his obligations to keep his mounts on a true course.
THIS MANSHOOD was forced to race wide during the event.
RACE 8: CHIEF DE BEERS H'CAP - 1110M.
Approaching the first turn, AVON JEWEL had to be steadied to avoid the heels of COMMAND FORCE, which shifted in. L. Meech was cautioned and reminded of her obligations to provide 2 lengths clearance when shifting ground.
ALL WINNERS AND FRISKY STAR WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
