BRISBANE TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.3.7.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman), Mr C. McLune, Mr D. Hensler, Mr W. Birch,
Mr G. Meek, Mr C. Waller (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 11.5M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: As G. Colless and M. McDonald were indisposed, the following replacements were approved:

G. Colless - Race 1. GAMMONUM - C. Whiteley; Race 2. MAJOR FORCE - A. Kennedy; Race 6. AWESOME SHADOW - M. Rodd.

M. McDonald - Race 1. SOME RED - M. Rodd; Race 4. RIVETTING LAD - P. Hammersley.

RACE 1: GIANNIS RESTAURANT H'CAP - 1350M.

Permission was granted for CIVICS and ANGULAR to race in blinkers. Following explanations from trainers M. Plumb and J. Morrisey, each were each fined $50 for failing to notify the proper authorities of the gear amendments.

AKERS and BARESQUE were tightened for room between TO THE TEST and CIVICS when both horses shifted ground at the start.

SOME RED was a little slow to begin.

After travelling 200m., TO THE TEST commenced to pull hard when racing in restricted room, and continued to overrace for some distance approaching the first turn.

Approaching the first turn, ANGULAR had to be steadied off the heels of PRINCE SAMURAI, which shifted in. When being steadied, ANGULAR then shifted out, making contact with THE BONDI EXPRESS. BARESQUE, which was trailing ANGULAR, also had to be restrained away from that horse's heels.

A. Kennedy was asked to explain the reason for AKERS settling at the rear of the field in today's event, which was in contrast to the horse's previous start at Ipswich on 12 June. A. Kennedy explained that at the previous start the horse settled midfield, however as the race was over 1500m., the pace slowed and as a consequence in the middle stages he was able to progress forward to assume the lead after being caught wide. A. Kennedy stated that in today's race over 1350m., the horse could not muster speed and this resulted in it losing ground and settling at the rear of the field. He added that whilst being momentarily held up rounding the home turn, the horse ran home strongly when clear, and felt it may be better suited over a longer journey. The explanation was noted.

RACE 2: CLARION HOTEL POWERHOUSE H'CAP - 1660M.

BRANAHDAN was tightened for room between MAJOR FORCE and VOLKMAN on jumping away.

When being restrained to take a trail behind BLERICK after travelling a short distance, VOLKMAN was inclined to race a little fiercely until rounding the first turn..

After leaving the 900m., BRANAHDAN had to be momentarily eased off the heels of VOLKMAN, which shifted in.

RACE 3: TMP.WORLDWIDE H'CAP - 1350M.

When questioned concerning the seemingly disappointing performance of PUKEKO, A. Erhart explained that when the pace slowed in the middle stages, PUKEKO was inclined to pull hard and overrace. A. Erhart also added that when the pace quickened rounding the home turn, PUKEKO failed to respond to his riding.

RACE 4: MCGIRVAN MEDIA H'CAP - 1350M.

MOON PIXIE was tightened for room at the start between MALABAR and RIVETTING LAD.

Approaching the 1200m., MALABAR shifted out and made contact with MOON PIXIE.

CRAIGLEA LADY improved inside the heels of FAIRTIME near the 900m. and became unbalanced after shifting in and making contact with SHE'S A DISH.

Rounding the first turn, FAIRTIME had to be restrained off the heels of INTRACTABLE. FAIRTIME then became unbalanced and shifted out, hampering MALABAR and forcing that horse wider on the track.

RACE 5: HAMILTON HOTEL H'CAP - 1110M.

After travelling a short distance, RUBY'S JESTER and TALK ABOUT REAL made heavy contact when crowded between ILONA and OCTAVIAN, which shifted in.

OCTAVIAN, which was obliged race wide, had to be eased away from the heels of ILONA rounding the home turn.

M. Dracos, rider of MY TRUE NORTH, had his whip accidentally knocked from his grasp leaving the 200m..

RACE 6: XXXX H'CAP - 1200M.

M. Dracos was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his engagement on HATTA'S DANCER. As no other claiming apprentice was available, stewards approved senior jockey L. Appo as the substitute rider.

MAGIC OF MACKAY knuckled over on jumping away.

FROM THE CELLAR jumped with its head in the air and lost ground at the start.

Approaching the 1100m., FROM THE CELLAR was obliged to race in restricted room between PEPPEN BAY and MAGIC OF MACKAY, which shifted in.

J. Stanley, rider of BAT AN EYE, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in at the 400m., causing HATTA'S DANCER to be momentarily tightened for room. AWESOME SHADOW and MAGIC OF MACKAY, which were racing to the inside, were crowded, and MAGIC OF MACKAY struck the running rail.

On straightening, BAT AN EYE, which was inclined to lay out, momentarily inconvenienced HATTA'S DANCER.

RACE 7: CARLTON DRAUGHT H'CAP - 1040M.

MALTESE EDITION blundered on jumping away and lost ground at the start.

Near the 800m., MISS CRABOPPLE shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

Leaving the 600m., MALTESE EDITION and LUCKY MOMENTS made contact on several occasions when both horses were attempting to occupy a similar position.

Approaching the 200m., JUST DEVINE was cramped for room when taking a run in restricted room between MALTESE EDITION and SHALARKO, which was taken out by MISS CRABOPPLE.

RACE 8: REWARD INSURANCE H'CAP - 1200M.

MAZZONE was slow to jump.

Approaching the 800m., AYNSLEY GOLD, when being eased off the heels of ACROBATIC, shifted out abruptly, forcing SLEEK ALI to be checked and forced across the heels of SELF TITLED. In this incident, SELF TITLED also veered wider, and BAR ECLIPSE was forced wider on the track. BAR ECLIPSE was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race.

Near the finish line, MERKABA shifted in and made slight contact with GONZO.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
