Race 6. Rajah H'cap.
Trainer N. Stewart was questioned regarding the improved performance of the winner ZIP IT UP in the above event. N. Stewart stated in his opinion ZIP IT UP was better suited over 1600 metres, and also the addition of blinkers and being allowed to dictate the tempo of the race were all factors in the horse's improved performance. The explanation was noted.
RACE 1: BRISBANE WHOLESALE FLOWERS H'CAP - 1200M.
KID MILLIONS was slow to begin.
STRICTLY SMART jumped away awkwardly.
SIR MUKAFAST shifted out at the start, taking VEESAR out on to EMPYREAN.
Approaching the first turn, STRICTLY SMART shifted in, taking ELITE TED in on to VEESAR, which brushed the running rail.
At the 800m., SIR MUKAFAST, when being steadied off the heels of BEAMER, shifted in and brushed the running rail.
RACE 2: ALL HEART SEEDLESS WATERMELON QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1110M.
HEIR APPARENT, which had been slow to begin, was hampered shortly after the start by BULL BLINCO, which was taken out by SMALL PLANET.
R. Goltz, rider of the 4th placegetter, STAR OF THE GALAXY, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out right to the finish line.
Apprentice C. Spry was questioned regarding the performance of I'LL WAIT. C. Spry stated that the filly travelled well in the early stages however approaching the home turn when SMALL PLANET shifted out to improve and made contact with his filly, I'LL WAIT then appeared to lose momentum and responded only fairly over the concluding stages. A veterinary examination of I'LL WAIT failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 3: MINIMOVERS H'CAP - 2200M.
No incidents.
RACE 4: THE LEADING HOTELS OF THE WORLD QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1615M.
Trainer T. Gollan will be interviewed in relation to his failure to organise a licensed person to saddle KUTALO.
SPECIAL DEPOSIT shifted out at the start, making contact with DINI WHO.
KUTALO shifted out on jumping away and made contact with GENERAL SAM.
After travelling a short distance, Z. Purton was dislodged from MONCHERO after striking the heels of HOT FOOTING. The club's doctor reported that Z. Purton had sustained injuries to his left collar bone and both wrists. Z. Purton was replaced by J. Byrne on STARTELL in race 6, J. Stanley on STAR OF SEQUALO in race 7 and J. Powell on NEW TRADER in race 8.
Near the 200m., SPECIAL DEPOSIT shifted out taking LINDHOLME out on to GENERAL SAM.
RACE 5: SUNNY QUEEN EGGS H'CAP - 1010M.
After passing the 800m., KOOCHIE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CROWN REGATTA, which at that stage was taken in by JAZZ FUND.
RACE 6: CLAYTON UTZ H'CAP - 1350M.
As N. Evans was indisposed, J. Powell was substituted as the rider of TREASURE THE KWILA.
WARRIOR TRADER was a late scratching at 8 a.m.. Trainer M. Thexton will be interviewed in relation to this matter.
NAUDERS was tightened for room on jumping away between JOHANN LOVER and PERANCE.
Approaching the 1200m., SIR DAN shifted out abruptly, resulting in PEARLY KINGS and SKIDDAW both having to be checked. SIR DAN continued to shift out and made heavy contact with KEEP THE ACE, forcing that horse out on to JOHANN LOVER, which shifted out, resulting in R. Crilley, rider of NAUDERS, being dislodged. In this incident, ROW BOAT and SAMMY were also checked. Trainer J. Shelton was advised the nomination of SIR DAN would be refused in Australia under A.R. 50. In making that decision, stewards were not satisfied that the racing manners of SIR DAN could be corrected by way of trials, and that, in their opinion, SIR DAN posed a risk to the safety of other horses and riders. Stewards were also aware that SIR DAN had previously bucked at Doomben on 7 December 2002, and that a veterinary examination of SIR DAN today had failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Passing the 800m., PERANCE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of KEEP THE ACE, which shifted in.
Approaching the 400m., JOHANN LOVER was buffeted by the riderless NAUDERS.
Near the 300m., PEARLY KINGS had to be checked when disappointed for a run between KEEP THE ACE and SKIDDAW, which improved to the inside of the heels of JOHANN LOVER.
Close to the finish line, NAUDERS shifted in, taking UNDER SUSPICION in on to SAMMY, which had to be checked.
RACE 7: P& H MINEPRO SERVICES H'CAP - 1200M.
EXCELLENT ANN shifted out at the start, making contact with BRITISH LION.
After leaving the 500m., TA TA TATIANA hung in, taking EXCELLENT ANN in on to COTTON BRAE.
MISS ASTUR hung in throughout the race. Trainer J. Wallace will be interviewed in relation to MISS ASTUR'S racing manners. A veterinary examination of MISS ASTUR failed to reveal any abnormality.
G. Colless was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BRITISH LION. He stated that the mare travelled very well in the event and after straightening, angled to the outside but when placed under pressure, BRITISH LION failed to respond to his riding. Trainer A. Bailey will be interviewed in relation to the horse's performance.
RACE 8: EYE LIGHTING H'CAP - 1615M.
NATIONAL BID,which sustained bruising to the near fetlock, near hock and to the front of the off hind coronet travelling to the racecourse, was declared a late scratching at 1.19 p.m..
THE SECONDMORTGAGE was slow to begin.
Making the home turn, IMPREGNABLE had to be checked when improving quickly between KINGCIDON and JACK LIVES HERE, which shifted out when tiring. In this incident, THE SECONDMORTGAGE, which was following, was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of IMPREGNABLE, taking STORMY LODGE wider.
STORMY LODGE was obliged to race wide throughout.
ALL WINNERS AND COLD START WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
