FRISCO'S LASS (G. Colless) and ORIENTAL PEACE (A. Pattillo) made contact on jumping away.
Leaving the 600m., DAILY CONNECTION (M. Pelling) was forced 3 wide by SHEEMA (G. McKeon), which left the rail as a result of overracing.
Near the 50m., ALLY BEE (Y. Yamazaki) had to be eased away from the heels of DAILY CONNECTION.
The connections of SHEEMA were questioned in relation to the disappointing performance of the horse, which was hard ridden and under pressure on straightening and eventually compounded to finish at the rear of the field. Trainer D. Forster advised that she had instructed Gavin McKeon to endeavor to lead, however if challenged to take a trail as she did not want the horse to become involved in a speed battle. G. McKeon stated after being challenged by SIT HERE DEAR (B. Thomson), he elected to take a trail, however after restraining the mare she commenced to overrace and refused to settle. G. McKeon added that in his opinion the horse may have resented being boxed in and he elected to move away from the rails before the home turn, however the horse was under pressure on straightening. Trainer D. Forster also indicated, in hindsight, the horse may be better suited being restricted to shorter distances. A veterinary examination of SHEEMA failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.
Race 2: Siemens Medical Solutions QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1110m.
1st - Aristocracy 2nd - Cookie Stardust 3rd - Les Jeux D'Esprit 4th - Katsidis

WINSTON (K. Pope) jumped away awkwardly.
CHEVRON ISLAND and RUMBIRD (G. Gibbons) came together on jumping away.
G. Gibbons, rider of RUMBIRD, was severely reprimanded for shifting out to improve near the 200m., making heavy contact with the hind quarters of TELETRADER, resulting in that horse being forced out on to MI CIELO (J. Taylor). As a result of this incident, RUMBIRD became unbalanced.
After passing the 100m., KATSIDIS was disappointed for a run between COOKIE STARDUST and ARISTOCRACY, which shifted in.
FLORENZA had to be steadied near the finish line to avoid the heels of COOKIE STARDUST.
MI CIELO (J. Taylor) and TELETRADER raced 3 wide throughout.

Near the 600m., POWER BREAK (G. Colless) raced awkwardly for a short distance in restricted room inside SEAHAWK LASS (A. Best).
Near the 200m., UNITE AND PROSPER (B. Hull) was disappointed for a run between KUTALO (G. McKeon) and ROYAL HERO and was obliged to shift back to the inside to obtain clear running.
SONIC PEAK (T.Pannell) was obliged to race 4 wide throughout.
Stewards questioned trainer's representative Mr P. Dawson in relation to the seemingly improved performance of SEAHAWK LASS (A. Best) in winning today as compared to the horse's previous start when finishing 10th, beaten 10.6 lengths at Toowoomba on 12 February. Mr Dawson explained that in the race at Toowoomba he was of the opinion that there would be no pace in the race, so he elected to instruct his rider to go forward, and as a consequence the horse raced outside the leader and compounded. He felt in hindsight SEAHAWK LASS may not have been suited to leading, and with genuine pace in today's race he was of the opinion that the horse may be better suited when being ridden off the pace. Whilst stewards noted Mr Dawson's explanation, he was reminded of his obligations to advise stewards of any significant variation in riding instructions.
Race 4: Stryker QTIS Class 6 3yo H'cap - 1615m.
1st - Modest Miss 2nd - Pager 3rd - Don't Tell Clang 4th - Hit The Road

KING KADE had to be checked near the 200m. when racing between MODEST MISS (N. Jolly), which shifted out slightly, and HIT THE ROAD (D. Browne), which shifted in under pressure. D. Browne was severely reprimanded and advised to take greater measures to keep his mounts straight in future.

COLD START (N. Jolly) was slow to jump.
Trainer T. Catip advised stewards that he would be instructing J. Powell to endeavor to ride UNION RULE back in the field today if possible as the horse overraced at its previous start. J. Powell stated he endeavoured to position the horse back in the field, however passing the winning post on the first occasion the horse commenced to overrace, and making the first turn, COLD START, which was racing forward of him, shifted out, forcing him wider on the track. J. Powell added that the horse continued to overrace and he had no alternative other than to allow UNION RULE to progress forward to lead. The explanation was noted.
Race 6: Grant Thornton Class 6 H'cap - 1615m.
1st - Champion Star 2nd - Hissy Fit 3rd - Jimmy The Bear 4th - Fil The Bill
QUAYTMAN (N. Jolly) and FIL THE BILL (J. Powell) came together at the start.
Jockey A. Best reported that THE AWESOME CHANCE faltered near the 1400m. and after travelling a short distance, he felt there was something amiss with the horse and he eased it wider on the track, intending to retire the gelding out of the race. He added that after travelling some distance down the back straight, the horse then commenced to stretch out better and he elected to complete the race. A veterinary examination of THE AWESOME CHANCE revealed no significant abnormalities other than an increased pulse in the near foreleg, which may have been consistent with the horse having struck itself.
FIL THE BILL was crowded for room near the 1400m. when racing between SABRE KNIGHT (B. Hull) and BLU SKY MINING (M. Pelling), which shifted in slightly.
BLU SKY MINING was caught 3 wide rounding the first turn and the horse raced 3 wide throughout.
FIL THE BILL, which also raced 3 wide, got its head up and raced ungenerously when overracing at the heels of BLU SKY MINING near the 1100m..
