Stewards ordered that this suspension be served concurrently with a 10-meeting suspension incurred in race 8.
When questioned as to the riding tactics adopted on ROCK CAFÉ, N. Jolly stated that he had been instructed to allow the horse to stride forward, and after obtaining the lead, he was then pressured by SPECIAL LANGFUHR. He stated that he had indicated to the rider of SPECIAL LANGFUHR, apprentice R. Mason, that he was intent on leading, however R. Mason continued to apply pressure rounding the first turn, and N. Jolly stated that this had the effect of causing his horse to overrace. He added that he was surprised R. Mason maintained pressure endeavouring to lead until approaching the 1400m.. When questioned as to her riding tactics, R. Mason stated that she had been instructed to lead if possible and after applying some pressure she felt that N. Jolly might surrender the lead, bearing in mind the 6.5kilogram weight difference. Trainer T. Hall confirmed his instructions to lead if possible as the horse had been successful racing in that fashion previously. He felt that apprentice Mason may have overdone the tactics in continuing the pressure for the lead, and after considering the evidence, both riders were advised that their tactics in pursuing the lead were not in the best interests of their respective mounts. Both riders were advised that they should make greater effort to ride the race as it presents itself to ensure their horses are more competitive at the finish.

Rounding the first turn, WELCOME SITE hung out and the horse continued to hang out until near the 500m. when the horse shifted wider on the track, placing D. Evans at a disadvantage in riding his mount for the remainder of the race. Trainer R. Mackay was advised that WELCOME SITE will be required to trial to the stewards’ satisfaction before racing again.
Near the 1000m., GO ROCK AND ROBIN (S. Galloway) was inclined to race ungenerously and the horse then overraced for some distance, and near the 800m.,shifted out abruptly, taking MASAI PRIDE wider on the track. SACRED MOUNTAIN (C. SACRED MOUNTAIN was obliged to race wide throughout.
When questioned concerning the performance of ICE CHARIOT, C. Colless confirmed that the horse was disappointing and felt that ICE CHARIOT was not focused and seemed to lose concentration at various stages of the race. He added that nearing the 600m. the horse was under pressure, however in the straight seemed to finish the race off reasonably over the concluding stages. C. Colless further suggested to connections that the horse may be looking for further in its races and recommended adding blinkers to assist the horse’s concentration. Trainer R. Maund indicated that he would experiment with blinkers and whilst he may consider giving ICE CHARIOT an ease up, he felt that the horse would be better suited stepping up in distance. A swab sample was taken from ICE CHARIOT following a veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormality.

Near the 150m., MISTER DE BALI shifted ground abruptly and interfered with PAST TENSE. Over the final 100m., MISTER DE BALI again shifted ground under pressure, causing WRONG DOING to be checked. R. Stewards Report
Date: Tuesday 20 September 2005
Queensland Racing Deagon
Stewards today continued the inquiry which was opened into J McKinnon’s riding of Black Ink in Race 4 at Doomben on 3 September 2005.
After hearing further evidence from J McKinnon, trainer L Kelly and representative Mr K Kemp, Stewards charged J McKinnon with contravening AR135(b) & (c) in that as the rider of Black Ink he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure Black Ink was given fill opportunity to win or obtain the best possible place in the field.
After considering all evidence J McKinnon was found guilty of the charge in that approaching the 500metres and until near the 300metres he failed to maintain a position following Past Tense and failed to make sufficient effort to improve his position on the home turn.
After considering submissions in relation to penalty the Stewards noted that J McKinnon was due to complete his apprenticeship on 21 September 2005 and after taking into account relevant submissions it was decided that his application for a Metropolitan Jockey’s licence be rescinded and he be issued a Provincial licence with the order that he would not be eligible for an upgrade to ride in the Metropolitan area for the next six months.
