From SCTC, 2.12.07 – Race 2
Jockey B. Pengelly, rider of HOWDY CHELLE, pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 350m he allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of CROSS CITY (C. Eaton), which in turn shifted out, severely hampering DOUBLE DANCER (E. Wilkinson). B. Pengelly was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 December, and to expire at midnight, 21 December 2007.

TUSCAN BLAZE (Race 1), HANURABI (Race 4) and EXPENSIVE HOBBY (Race 5) were declared late scratchings at 8.55 am after stewards were informed by trainer Mr L. Manzelmann that he would not be attending the above meeting as his rider A. Merritt was indisposed. Subsequently, stewards interviewed Mr Manzelmann and charged him with a breach of AR114(c), in that, in the stewards’ opinion, he failed to scratch the above horses by the prescribed time without an acceptable reason. Mr Manzelmann was subsequently fined $900.
Race 1: Free Finance Check-Up 2yo Plate – 1010m
1st - Presley 2nd – Falzina 3rd – Que 4th – Nova Chenka
NATANE (K. Wharton) jumped away awkwardly.
After passing the 800m, FALZINA (K. Banks) commenced to hang out and did so for the remainder of the event. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that FALZINA must trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination of FALZINA failed to reveal any abnormalities.
QUE (R. McMahon) was briefly impeded when attempting to take a narrow run to the inside of NOVA CHENKA (G. Colless) approaching the 200m.
A post-race veterinary examination of NATANE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following this event the track rating was upgraded to dead.
Race 2: City Finance Franchisees 3yo Class 6 H’cap – 1010m
1st – Qualosun 2nd – Cardio 3rd – Mr Heartbreaker 4th – Carry On Kosa
MR HEARTBREAKER (A. Pattillo) jumped away awkwardly and shortly after brushed SLEEPY JACKSON (D. Peisley).
Passing the 800m, CARDIO (K. Pope) commenced to hang out and did so until after straightening. In this incident, the saddle on CARDIO rolled to the near-side, placing jockey K. Pope at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Trainer T. Miller was advised that CARDIO must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
Near the 600m, SLEEPY JACKSON, which had been forced wider on the track by CARDIO, which was hanging out, shifted in momentarily, tightening EARNSHAW, which had to be steadied. D. Peisley, rider of SLEEPY JACKSON, was advised to exercise more care.
Shortly after straightening, EARNSHAW (J. Byrne) shifted out and brushed MR HEARTBREAKER (A. Pattillo).
MR HEARTBREAKER (A. Pattillo) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
A post-race veterinary examination of EARNSHAW revealed the colt to be making an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer M. Webb was advised that EARNSHAW must undergo an endoscopic examination under exercise prior to its next race start.
Race 3: Home Buyers’ CG&E H’cap – 1200m
1st – Scoot 2nd – Wireless 3rd – Course He’s Canny 4th - Theis
Trainer P. Sexton was fined $100 for failing to amend the ownership details for ONION by the prescribed time.
MAJOR BOYINGTON (B. Pengelly) jumped away awkwardly.
KIDS SHOW (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
ONION (A. Taylor) overraced in the early stages.
Near the 300m, KIDS SHOW clipped the heels of BUCK SEASON (A. Spinks) and blundered.
BUCK SEASON and CANADIAN BUNNY (B. El-Issa) raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Business Finance F&M NMW H’cap - 1200m
1st – Lady’s Opinion 2nd – Satsang 3rd – Calchris 4th – Our Jangles
LADY’S OPINION (B. Pengelly) and STYLIZED (J. Taylor) brushed on jumping away.
DOUG’S MATE (A. Taylor) was slow to begin.
SATSANG (J. Byrne) was inclined to lay out between the 800m and the home turn.
Near the 800m, DOUG’S MATE improved up on to the heels of STYLIZED and had to be steadied.
Passing the 300m, STYLIZED shifted out and brushed POSSUM (S. Seamer).
Near the 50m, DOUG’S MATE and STYLIZED were placed in restricted room between ANCIENT IMPULSE (Michael Palmer) and OUR JANGLES (K. Pope), which shifted out.
POSSUM (S. Seamer) raced wide throughout.
Race 5: Equipment Funding 4yo & Up Class 6 H’cap – 1010m
1st – Mono Mac 2nd – Girls Jeuney 3rd – The Chanster 4th – Easy Rocker
EASY ROCKER (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
GIRLS JEUNEY (Michael Palmer) was tightened for room on jumping away between MONO MAC (A. Spinks) and PICWORTH (S. Drake), both of which shifted ground.
Near the 700m, JUST THE STAR (L. Morrison) laid in across the heels of PICWORTH (S. Drake) and had to be steadied.
PRIMAL IMPULSE (J. Taylor) raced wide throughout.
A post-race veterinary examination of REGAL EVENT revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore knee. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for REGAL EVENT prior to its next race start.
Race 6: Call 13 62 55 1MW Last Year H’cap – 1110m
1st – Piccohi 2nd – Picture Book 3rd – Spur Me On 4th – That’s Better
PICTURE BOOK (A. Pattillo) and JESTER’S DANCE (B. El-Issa) came together on jumping away.
MI CIELO (A. Taylor) and SPUR ME ON (D. Griffin) also bumped at the start.
Shortly after the start, JESTER’S DANCE (B. El-Issa) and MI CIELO were placed in restricted room between SPUR ME ON and PICTURE BOOK, both of which shifted ground.
Approaching the 800m, MYNDOS (L. Morrison) had to be steadied off the heels of BROMS GIRL (C. Spry).
THAT’S BETTER (J. Byrne) raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned jockey R. McMahon regarding his riding of TUDOR QUEST, in particular between the 600m and 100m. Apprentice McMahon stated that his instructions were to have the horse in a forward postion. He added that after beginning well, TUDOR QUEST obtained a position behind the leaders, and rounding the home turn he was slightly inconvenienced when placed in restricted room between THAT’S BETTER (J. Byrne) and PICTURE BOOK (A. Pattillo), which shifted out. R. McMahon further added that, in his opinion, TUDOR QUEST was under pressure prior to the home turn. Trainer S. Jones confirmed apprentice McMahon’s instructions. Stewards noted their explanations, however advised apprentice McMahon that in similar circumstances they would expect him to show more urgency in the crucial stages prior to the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
A post-race veterinary examination of BROMS GIRL failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 7: City Pacific Finance Open H’cap - 1350m
1st – Omnitrader 2nd – Legendary Man 3rd – Umaprince 4th – Daring Fortune
DIAMONDSONDINSIDE (J. Taylor) was forced very wide on the home turn.
WILLY LEICA (G. Colless) had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages.
ADAVALE HORNET (S. Drake) raced wide throughout.
Jockey B. Stewart, rider of the 4th placegetter, DARING FORTUNE, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR145, in that he returned to scale 1.5 kilograms in excess of the horse’s declared weight. B. Stewart was suspended from riding in races for a period of 2 weeks, to commence at midnight, 8 December, and to expire at midnight, 22 December 2007.
Race 8: Finance Formguide Class 6 Plate – 1350m
1st – Showify 2nd – October Sky 3rd – Montoux 4th - Matzumi
As apprentice D. Peisley was to claim his full allowance, S. Drake was substituted as the rider of WINSOME LOOT. An inquiry into the reason for D. Peisley being unable to claim his full allowance was adjourned to Queensland Racing offices on 11 December 2007.
MOGLICH (J. Taylor) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Shortly after straightening, MOGLICH (J. Taylor) shifted out and made contact with BESORAA (L. Morrison).
MOSSO (K. Forrester), GREENFINDER (D. Griffin) and WELL RESEARCHED (A. Spinks) raced wide throughout.
