Race 1: JURESIC GROUP 2YO QTIS H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Seeyou 2nd – Reve D’Or 3rd – Red Sea 4th – Celerity

Following the event the Judge semaphored the incorrect number for 3rd; however prior to the announcement of correct weight, the Judge amended his placings to read: 2, 5, 4, 1.

BELLA SEA (K. Pope), FIRE OF HEART (B. Pengelly) and SEEYOU (G. Colless) were slow to begin.

CELERITY (J. Byrne) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the first turn BELLA SEA commenced to hang out. BELLA SEA then raced ungenerously for some distance.

RED SEA (B. El-Issa) was disappointed for a run where there was doubtful room near the 300m and was obliged to shift out to alter course.

G. Colless, the rider of SEEYOU, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that passing the 200m, after being taken out initially by RED SEA, he permitted his mount to shift out resulting in COUNTY RAIDER (S. Galloway) being checked and shifting out inconveniencing FIRE OF HEART. G. Colless’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday, 24 February, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 9 March 2008.

Race 2: SOUTHERN CROSS SPORTS CLUB 3Y0 QTIS H’CAP - 1615m

When the pace steadied passing the 1400m MY LIMIT had to be steadied off the heels of CAJUN MOON (M. Radecker).

LEICA DOVE (C. Spry) was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages.

Rounding the home turn ROYAL FLAG (A. Pattillo) shifted out and brushed MY LIMIT.

MY LIMIT was inclined to shift ground outwards under pressure over the concluding stages.

A post-race veterinary examination of LEICA DOVE failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3: VELOCITY SPORTS H’CAP - 2200m
1st – Art Success 2nd – Devastating 3rd – Grand Laddie 4th – Tattyam

INTHEWAY (B. Calkin) jumped out at the start and made contact with INTEMPERATE (A. Pattillo).

A post-race veterinary examination of INTEMPERATE failed to reveal any abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of TATTYAM (L. Morrison) revealed that the mare was suffering mild heat stress.

Stewards questioned jockey A. Pattillo and trainer S. Morrisey regarding INTEMPERATE leading today. Jockey Pattillo stated that his instructions were to have the horse race forward, ensuring that the horse would not overrace. He added that after being bumped by INTHEWAY on jumping, INTEMPERATE was inclined to race keenly in the early stages and he allowed the horse to roll forward passing the winning post on the first occasion under its own tempo. Jockey Pattillo also stated that approaching the 1400m he believed that COLD START (R. Mason) seemed reluctant to lead, so he allowed his mount to roll forward in an endeavour to obtain the lead. Trainer S. Morrisey confirmed the instructions, however added that prior to the race he had anticipated the horse running second behind COLD START. Mr Morrisey added that the horse has led and been successful over similar distances on previous occasions. He agreed with jockey Pattillo’s assessment of the horse overracing in the early stages and was satisfied with jockey Pattillo’s handling of INTEMPERATE. Their explanations were noted.

Near the 250m LADY’S OPINION (J. Byrne) and FAT QUARTERS (L. Morrison) brushed.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PICABLU, jockey B. El-Issa stated that after taking a position mid-field, the horse travelled well until a point passing the 600m but when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. Trainer T. Whittington was at a loss to explain the horse’s performance today, advising that it had had worked well leading into today’s event and undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in the days subsequent to the event which may have affected the horse’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination of PICABLU failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Jockey J. Byrne reported that LADY’S OPINION had a tendency to hang out for the majority of the event.

Shortly after the start MALTA (C. Reith) was tightened between ROCK OF MUFASA (K. Wharton) and VERY CANNY (C. Spry) which shifted out.

A post-race veterinary examination of INSTRUCTED revealed the gelding to be sore in the near fore knee. Trainer’s representative Mr S. Morrisey was advised that he must obtain a veterinary certificate prior to the horse’s next start.
