SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

FROM DOOMBEN MEETING SAT. 15.08.09: Jockey L. Cassidy was reprimanded under AR. 137A(5) for using his whip on BELL ACADEMY in excess of the allowable amount in consecutive strides over the last 200m.

Race 1: JOHN BARBER MEMORIAL H’CAP – 1200m
1st – Lifeboat 2nd – Ulladulla 3rd – Albert Cadabra 4th – Kalkie Kane

As S. Galloway was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of ROTARIAN. S. Galloway was fined $100 under AR. 120(b).

K. Pope was dislodged from his mount CALL TO ORDER when proceeding to the barriers. CALL TO ORDER was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field. K. Pope was cleared to ride by ambulance officers.

Shortly after the start CENTENNIAL SON (L. Cassidy), which was a little slow to begin, had to be steadied when tightened for room between MONASHEE KNIGHT (M. Cahill) and LIFEBOAT (T. Bell).

CALL TO ORDER (K. Pope) and ROTARIAN (J. Taylor) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 400m MONASHEE KNIGHT improved up on to the heels of the tiring CALL TO ORDER and had to be steadied.

Jockey J. Byrne was reprimanded under AR. 137A(5) for using his whip on ULLADULLA in excess of the allowable amount in consecutive strides over the last 200m.

KALKIE KANE lost its off fore plate in running and was exhibiting soreness in that foot post-race.

Race 2: FOGS TOSSER TURNER MEMORIAL H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Sarthemare 2nd – Falling Star 3rd – Lilleelavee 4th – Seething Duck

FRISCO MISS (J. Taylor) overraced in the early stages.

SEETHING DUCK (A. Spinks) raced ungenerously for a short distance approaching the first turn.

Near the 700m FALLING STAR (L. Cassidy) improved up on to the heels of SLEEK REPEAT (M. Hellyer) and when being steadied shifted out and made contact with FRISCO MISS, resulting in FALLING STAR becoming unbalanced.

AWASE OUGI (L. Herne) raced wide three wide for the entire event.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey S. Katsidis regarding his riding of LILLEELAVEE in that he positioned the mare in a more handy position than it had raced at its most recent starts. S. Katsidis stated that today’s race appeared to be somewhat devoid of speed and after beginning well he decided his best option was to attempt to take up a position close to the lead and in reflection he felt that the sectional times vindicated his decision. The explanation was accepted.

A post-race veterinary examination of SLEEK REPEAT revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer R. Coveney will be advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness for the horse before it is permitted to race again.

Race 3: WOOLLAM CONSTRUCTIONS H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Forestreno 2nd – Michelle Cafea 3rd – Mister Celestial 4th – Bitabiff

TERANABA (J. Byrne) raced three wide for the majority of the event.

MICHELLE CAFEA (M. Hellyer) laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

The track rating was upgraded to GOOD 2 following the running of this event.

Race 4: CENTENARY CONCRETING QTIS H’CAP - 1615m
1st – Shadow Buster 2nd – Charmingly 3rd – Show A Lion Heart 4th – Some Journey

MR TRACEY was declared a late scratching at 2.29 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice when that horse was found to be sore in the off foreleg after it had knuckled over during its preliminary. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on MR TRACEY be refunded, with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets to apply.

IDEOLOGICAL (J. Taylor) began awkwardly.

CHARMINGLY (S. Katsidis) was slow to begin.

PANNINGEN (J. Byrne) raced in restricted room rounding the first turn when racing to the inside of PHARONIC (M. Speers).

SANDERSON (M. Cahill) and CRAIGLEA KING (A. Pattillo) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

PANNINGEN had a tendency to lay our for a short distance leaving the 800m.

M. Speers, the rider of PHARONIC, stated that the horse failed to show its customary early speed and only travelled fairly throughout the event and near the 600m when he asked the filly for an effort he became concerned with the horse’s action and due to this concern retired PHARONIC from the race in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of PHARONIC revealed that the filly was showing signs of soreness in front. Trainer L. Birchley will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to the horse’s next start.

J. Byrne reported that PANNINGEN hung out badly in the middle stages resulting in him being placed at a disadvantage for this part of the race. J. Byrne added that once the horse entered the straight, although PANNINGEN still had a tendency to lay out, he was able to place the horse under pressure and it ran home reasonably well. Trainer Brian Smith advised stewards that he would spell the horse immediately and undertook to trial PANNINGEN before resuming racing.

Race 5: BRONCOS CYRIL CONNELL MEMORIAL H’CAP - 1615m
1st – Shady Prospect 2nd – Charvicky 3rd – Eddie Rapido 4th – Come Said The Boy

SHADY PROSPECT was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon prior to the start and passed fit to run.

EDDIE RAPIDO (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.

MORGALICIOUS (L. Cassidy) raced wide in the early stages before improving forward and assuming the lead near the 700m.

SANDTON (J. Byrne) and REIZARB (S. Katsidis) bumped leaving the 200m.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of REIZARB, S. Kadsidis stated that he was able to position the horse in a good spot one off the fence, however added that at a point near the 600m the horse to him did not feel like a winning chance and this was confirmed when COME SAID THE BOY (B. El-Issa), which was racing to his inside, was able to move him wider on the track. S. Katsidis added that in his opinion the horse did not run out the 1600m today. Trainer L. Brazier could not offer any explanation for the horse’s poor performance today and indicated that he would recommend that the horse go for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of REIZARB immediately following the event failed to reveal any abnormalities, however a further veterinary examination of REIZARB revealed the horse to be showing post-race distress and suffering from the thumps.

The Club’s veterinary surgeon reported that MORGALICIOUS sustained a laceration to the offside hock.

Race 6: CAMILLERI@PINKENBA HOTEL 6TH SEPTEMBER H’CAP - 2100m
1st – Eureka 2nd – Shooting Scene 3rd – Lander 4th – Derry City

LANDER (S. Katsidis) lost its footing behind at the start and as a result lost ground.

Jockey B. El-Issa, the rider of FAMOUS FORTUNE, was charged with careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that near the 1500m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of BARCLAYS (J. Taylor), resulting in that horse having to be checked. After hearing further evidence from B. El-Issa and J. Taylor, stewards did not sustain the charge and afforded jockey B. El-Issa the benefit of a doubt as to whether he had taken sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting in causing BARCLAYS to be checked.

Race 7: MEN OF LEAGUE & OPTUS H’CAP - 1615m
1st – Secrets Untold 2nd – Save A Buck 3rd – Little Stranger 4th – Thin And Crispy

IN REHEARSAL (J. Byrne) was held up over the concluding stages.

Stewards intend to interview jockey G. Colless, the rider of SAVE A BUCK, regarding his use of the whip over the concluding stages.

Race 8: CARMICHAEL BUILDERS PLATE - 1350m
1st – Heart Of The Citi 2nd – Mystic Vibe 3rd – Judge Me Not 4th – Pit Lane

HEART (L. Rolls) blundered on jumping away.

KINGS ARTIST (L. Cassidy) and BLACK MORGAN (P. Hammersley) had to be checked shortly after the start when tightened between THORONDO (K. Pope), which was taken in by FIVE WAYS (J. Byrne), and LIGHT RED (C. Reith), which shifted out slightly.

JUDGE ME NOT (S. Galloway) had a tendency to hang in in the early stages.

FIVE WAYS, which was overracing, shifted in leaving the 900m taking PIT LANE (S. Katsidis) in on to KHAIRESPRIT (B. El-Issa), which had to be steadied.

KYROS (A. Spinks) and INTERMAC (T. Bell) raced wide throughout.

Near the 200m MR ORIENT (J. Taylor) had to be steadied when momemtarily tightened for room between HEART and LIGHT RED which shifted out.

Approaching the finishing line MALELA (A. Pattillo), in an endeavour to obtain clear running, shifted out resulting in KINGS ARTIST being tightened for running between that horse and INTERMAC. MALELA was then unable to obtain clear running for the remainder of the event.
