Upon arrival at the barriers AMBER ALE had to be resaddled.
HEAD STOCKMEN (N. Evans) jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
ESPRESSO (D. Brereton) jumped awkwardly.
LEICA BEACH BOY (B. El-Issa) was slow to begin.
Near the 900m AMBER ALE (C. Munce) shifted in and brushed HEAD STOCKMEN. As a result HEAD STOCKMEN became unbalanced and lost ground.
ESPRESSO was inclined to hang in under pressure over the final 100m and over the concluding stages brushed FRACTIONS (L. Cassidy).
Race 2: HARDY BROTHERS BRISBANE BLOODSTOCK BONUS H’CAP - 1030m
1st – Pyrography 2nd - Fusette 3rd – Manzanilla 4th – Diadem Trist
DANAH ROSE, which was fractious in the mounting yard and reared over, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
INFAMOUS DANCER (M. Walker) broke through the barriers and travelled a short distance. INFAMOUS DANCER was examined by the veterinary surgeon and also cleared to race.
Trainer D. Bell advised stewards that FUSETTE would be ridden off the pace today with cover as the filly has been overracing when racing in a forward position. FUSETTE was ridden accordingly.
DANAH ROSE (Matthew Palmer) blundered at the start.
LIZZEELAVEE (C. Munce) and FUSETTE (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 800m SEDUCTIVE GREY (B. Stewart), which was racing greenly, shifted out and brushed FUSETTE, resulting in FUSETTE being taken wider on the track.
Approaching the 600m DANAH ROSE, which was racing greenly, shifted in after being brushed by PYROGRAPHY (D. Ganderton).
Apprentice D. Ganderton, the rider of PYROGRAPHY, was issued with a reprimand under AR. 137(a) for permitting his mount to shift out whilst under riding with the whip when not fully clear of MANZANILLA (J. Byrne), which resulted in MANZANILLA having to be momentarily steadied and obliged to alter course.
A post-race veterinary examination of LIZZEELAVEE, which weakened badly in the home straight, revealed no significant abnormalities.
C. Grylls, the rider of NOSHOWS, was reprimanded under AR. 137A(5)(a)(i) for using his whip on that filly in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
Race 3: CARLTON MID PLATE - 1110m
1st – Zippy Lou 2nd – Silver Spur 3rd – Peelings 4th – Baroque Pearl
Trainer T. Gollan advised stewards that if circumstances permit BAROQUE PEARL will be ridden off the pace with cover as in previous starts when sitting up on the speed it has not been finishing its races off. The horse was ridden accordingly.
GULF RIVER (C. Grylls) and REALI RO (C. Small) jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
VENCEDOR (J. Byrne) jumped awkwardly, resulting in rider J. Byrne becoming unbalanced in the saddle for a short distance.
Shortly after the start VENCEDOR shifted out slightly resulting in BAROQUE PEARL (L. Cassidy) making heavy contact with VENCEDOR’s hind quarters. As a consequence, VENCEDOR shifted out further and BAROQUE PEARL was taken in on to the hind quarters of TRADIES HOPE (D. Browne) which became unbalanced and shifted in. BAROQUE PEARL then had to be checked across the heels of VENCEDOR. As a result of TRADIES HOPE becoming unbalanced after receiving heavy contact from BAROQUE PEARL, TRADIES HOPE shifted out and made contact with PEELINGS (K. Fuji) which was taken out on to DOLLED UP (R. McMahon), causing both those runners to become unbalanced also.
PEELINGS raced wide throughout.
Near the 600m MISS MADI (L. Rolls) shifted out and brushed TRADIES HOPE. A short distance later TRADIES HOPE shifted back in and bumped MISS MADI, which had to be eased to avoid the heels of ZIPPY LOU (J. Taylor).
When racing greenly rounding the home turn ZIPPY LOU shifted in and tightened the running of BAROQUE PEARL.
VENCEDOR raced greenly in the straight and was unable to be fully tested by its rider.
SILVER SPUR shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
J. Taylor reported on return to scale that ZIPPY LOU raced greenly throughout.
When questioned as to the performance of SILVER SPUR, apprentice D. Ganderton explained that connections had instructed him to allow the horse to progress forward into the race from the 600m and after positioning the horse with cover it was inclined to overrace. He added that the horse is rather immature and felt that it would benefit from further racing and also would be better suited when stepped up in distance.
Race 4: BUNDABERG RED RUM PLATE - 1350m
1st – Clangor 2nd – Faenza 3rd – Red God 4th – Devil’s Angel
As B. Pengelly was injured, D. Browne was substituted as the rider of MISHANI ARCHER.
PICALUREN (M. Speers) was slow to begin.
VIPERA GOLD (C. Munce) began very awkwardly and blundered at the start.
J. Byrne, the rider of MARVELLOUSMAKEOVER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), in that approaching the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of RED GOD (L. Cassidy), resulting in RED GOD having to be checked to avoid the heels of MARVELLOUSMAKEOVER. J. Byrne’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 5 June, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 13 June 2010. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account J. Byrne’s exemplary record.
DANCING DUO (M. Hellyer), ROCKIN’ ME (C. McIver), MARVELLOUSMAKEOVER (J. Byrne), CLANGOR (G. Colless) and VIPERA GOLD all raced wide throughout.
RED GOD was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.
Stewards sought an explanation from M. Cahill regarding the performance of D’ORSAY. M. Cahill explained that the filly travelled well throughout and after being momentarily held up on the home turn D’ORSAY did not sprint as expected and at this stage of its preparation may be looking for further distance in its races.
Apprentice M. Hellyer was questioned regarding the performance of DANCING DUO. He explained that the filly was forced to race wide throughout, however shortly after entering the straight when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination of DANCING DUO revealed no obvious abnormalities.
Race 5: LYNDHURST STUD H’CAP - 1650m
1st – Pleasure Time 2nd – Troopingthecolour 3rd – Turn And Burn 4th – Topping
SAND RULER (C. Munce) jumped very awkwardly and then blundered shortly after the start.
DIENEKES (P. Hammersley), UNDER THE COUNTER (M. Cahill), MOSSVANA (J. Byrne) and MORSECODIAN (M. Hellyer) were all tightened for room shortly after the start between ATHENAS GIFT (M. Walker), which shifted in slightly, and TOPPING (S. Seamer) which shifted out.
Near the 1400m FEAR NO OTHER (C. Grylls) threw its head in the air when steadied off the heels of MORSECODIAN which shifted in. At a subsequent inquiry stewards were satisfied that the racing manners of FEAR NO OTHER were a major contributor to the incident, however they advised apprentice M. Hellyer, the rider of MORSECODIAN, to exercise care when shifting ground in the future.
UNDER THE COUNTER raced wide throughout.
FEAR NO OTHER (C. Grylls) overraced in the middle stages.
Shortly after entering the home straight DIENEKES had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of TOPPING which shifted out to improve.
PLEASURE TIME (M. Speers) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 300m.
L. Cassidy, the rider of TROOPINGTHECOLOUR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that after passing the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of SAND RULER (C. Munce), resulting in SAND RULER having to be checked to avoid that horse’s heels. L. Cassidy’s licence to ride in races was supsended for a period of 7 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 5 June 2010, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 16 June 2010.
When questioned as to the performance of and riding tactics adopted on ATHENAS GIFT, jockey M. Walker explained that he had been instructed by connections to either lead or ensure the horse was positioned close to the lead. He added that he was obliged to race wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to a position outside the leader near the 900m. Trainer R. Heathcote confirmed the instructions as in his opinion the horse races best when ridden in that fashion, however the horse seemed disappointing today and he indicated that he would have pathology tests carried out on the horse and undertook to notify stewards of the results.
Race 6: SITA ENVIRONMENTAL H’CAP - 1350m
1st – General Purple 2nd – Rambling On 3rd – Tetra 4th – Ready To Rise
Apprentice M. Wood, the rider of SMARTAAT and MR TRACEY (Race 7) was fined $200 under AR. 92(12) for failing to claim his full allowance on those mounts.
Correct weight was delayed when J. Holder, the rider of BEARHART GOLD, exercised his right to view the film, and after viewing the film sought a ruling from stewards that the horse had been denied the opportunity of a fair start. After hearing evidence from the starter and J. Holder, stewards were satisfied that whilst BEARHART GOLD had received assistance from a barrier attendant, the horse had turned its head into the adjoining stall as the start was effected. In the circumstances, stewards were satisfied that the horse had not been denied the opportunity of a fair start and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.
BEARHART GOLD (J. Holder) refused to leave the barriers and took no part in the race. Stewards ordered that BEARHART GOLD barrier trial satisfactorily before racing again.
Near the 800m LEFT STANDING (M. Hellyer) had to be steadied off the heels of ST PEDRO (C. Grylls). JUST HILDA (S. Seamer), which was following, also had to be steadied.
Near the 700M GO JOHEMMA (B. El-Issa) shifted out around the heels of JUST HILDA, resulting in READY TO RISE (E. Wilkinson) and CICARELLI (C. Munce) being forced wider on the track.
GENERAL PURPLE (L. Cassidy) raced three wide without cover throughout.
Approaching the 400m JUST HILDA shifted out and bumped READY TO RISE.
Approaching the 200m RAMBLING ON (M. Radecker) had been held up for clear running, and near the 200m shifted out to obtain clear running, resulting in JUST HILDA (S. Seamer) being hampered when tightened for room. M. Radecker was issued with a reprimand under AR. 137(a).
Stewards sought an explanation from M. Radecker regarding the riding tactics she adopted on RAMBLING ON. M. Radecker explained that as the gelding had drawn wide she elected to restrain to the rear of the field to gain a position closer to the rail. M. Radecker added that RAMBLING ON travelled well and improved through the field and although it did have some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight RAMBLING ON worked to the line well.
A post-race veterinary examination of CICARELLI revealed no abnormality.
Race 7: WWW.BRC.COM.AU H’CAP - 2240m

When the pace steadied after passing the 1400m FAVOURS TRADED commenced to overrace and struck the heels of PAPER WEIGHT (M. Hellyer).
PREACHER BOY (S. Seamer) raced three wide in the early stages before crossing to race outside the leader near the 1200m.
RACING HEART (M. Speers) raced wide throughout.
An inquiry was adjourned into the reason for MOORE striking interference near the 1100m to a time and date to be fixed.
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for PANNINGEN (L. Cassidy) being checked approaching the 500m.
At the entrance to the straight FACE THE FRONT (C. Munce) had to be steadied when tightened for room between FIELDMASTER (D. Brereton) and RACING HEART which shifted out after being bumped by MONTEFALCO (C. Grylls). Race 8: DARLEY AUSTRALIA PLATE - 1110m
1st – Woorim 2nd – Seek And Find 3rd – Felony Flight 4th – Mondean
As L. Rolls was stood down by the Club’s doctor following his ride in Race 7, M. Speers was substituted as the rider of MONDEAN.
Correct weight was delayed to enable stewards to interview the starter Mr Henderson following a request from jockeys C. Munce (NIKKI BEACH) and L. Cassidy (WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY), representing connections, that their mounts be declared non-runners due to NIKKI BEACH lunging forward and breaking open its barrier gates prematurely. After hearing evidence from the starter, C. Munce and L. Cassidy, together with evidence from all other riders in the race, and having regard to the provisions of AR. 133, which states : “Unless a false start has been signaled by the Starter or the official appointed for the purpose all riders shall ride their mounts so as to fulfill their obligations under AR.135(b)”, stewards found that despite NIKKI BEACH breaking its gate open momentarily prior to the starter effecting the start, the chances of any runner had not been materially affected and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
TUSCON RAIN (C. Whiteley) was slow to begin.
SEEK AND FIND (M. Hellyer) jumped out at the start and hampered CELESTAFY (A. Pattillo).
A short distance after the start FELONY FLIGHT (J. Holder) shifted out forcing WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (L. Cassidy) outwards, making heavy contact with NIKKI BEACH (C. Munce), which was inclined to lay in. A short distance later WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY again shifted out away from FELONY FLIGHT and made heavy contact with NIKKI BEACH.
BEAUTIFUL (C. Grylls), GORM THE OLD (P. Hammersley) and TUSCON RAIN raced wide throughout.
WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.
Upon entering the home straight BEAUTIFUL shifted out and made contact with TUSCON RAIN which was inclined to hang in.
Near the 200m WOORIM (D. Browne), when taking a tight run between GORM THE OLD and NIKKI BEACH, shifted out away from NIKKI BEACH, which was also inclined to shift out. WOORIM then made heavy contact with GORM THE OLD, forcing it out on to CELESTAFY.
