Race 1: MAXGAMING QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1010m
1st – Pure Whisper 2nd – Gibberer 3rd – Optionality 4th – Chikabi
BARGAIN BID (A. Butler) and GIBBERER (T. Bell) were both slow to begin.
UNSHAKEN (L. Cassidy) was slow into stride.
FLYING LAMBORGINI (J. Byrne) and GIBBERER both raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 400m FIRST TO GO (P. Schmidt) shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped FLYING LAMBORGINI, forcing that horse wider on the track.
FLYING LAMBORGINI raced greenly in the home straight and was inclined to lay in under pressure.
G. Colless reported that CHIKABI raced greenly and was inclined to hang out in the middle stages and when placed under pressure in the home straight was inclined to lay in and this prevented him from riding the filly out in his normal manner.
A post-race veterinary examination of UNSHAKEN, which weakened badly in the home straight, revealed no abnormalities.
Apprentice T. Bell, the rider of GIBBERER, was fined $100 under AR. 137A(5)(a)(i) for using the whip in consecutive strides in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
Race 2: COCA COLA AMATIL OPEN H’CAP - 2100m
1st –Walpersdorf 2nd – Eureka 3rd – Grieg 4th – Chilled
Correct weight was delayed to allow apprenticeA. Butler, the rider of 5th placegetter RACING HEART, the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 3rd placegetter GRIEG (M. Hellyer). After viewing the video, A. Butler advised that he did not wish to proceed and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion BEARTRACKER (E. Wilkinson) was eased when tightened for room between RACING HEART (A. Butler), which shifted out slightly, and COMMON OBJECTIVE (J. Byrne), which shifted in slightly. GRIEG, which was following, was also inconvenienced as a consequence. BEARTRACKER then raced ungenerously for some distance and made the crossing near the 1600m awkwardly and again shifted out and had to be steadied from the heels of COMMON OBJECTIVE. BEARTRACKER continued to overrace until near the 1400m.
WALPERSDORF (P. Schmidt) raced wide in the early stages of the event.
EUREKA (L. Cassidy) raced ungenerously at the heels of CARBON ART (T. Bell) near the 1400m and again raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 900m.
CARBON ART was forced to race wide over the final 1200m when CHILLED (P. Hammersley) shifted to a one-wide position at that point of the race.
GRIEG was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.
Near the 400m EUREKA shifted out around the heels of CHILLED to improve and brushed CARBON ART.
RACING HEART was inconvenienced over the concluding stages when tightened for room between CHILLED and GRIEG (M. Hellyer), which shifted in while having a tendency to lay in under pressure. Apprentice M. Hellyer was advised in similar circumstances to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice A. Butler regarding the performance of RACING HEART. Apprentice Butler explained that he was instructed to settle the gelding behind the leaders and passing the winning post on the first occasion he elected to trail PAPER WEIGHT (J. Taylor), however he was placed further back on the rail when PAPER WEIGHT elected to surrender the position to CHILLED passing the 1600m. A. Butler added that RACING HEART then travelled comfortably but did not quicken in the straight as expected and in his view was disappointing.
Race 3: PAYNTER DIXON BENCHMARK 90 H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Wonderful Lass 2nd – Rockdale 3rd – Mr Slick 4th – Topping
The start of this race was delayed as a result of ANCHOR BOLT (L. Cassidy) having to be resaddled at the barriers.
DEACON (A. Butler) began awkwardly.
TEARY EYED (Matthew Palmer) and XANTHOS (J. Bowditch) were slow to begin.
GLOW HEART (J. Taylor) overraced in the early stages.
MR SLICK (P. Hammersley) raced three wide in the early stages until settling outside of the leader near the 1100m.
GLOW HEART had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 250m and went to the line not fully tested by its rider.
Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless regarding the performance of CORNWALL PARK. G. Colless said that the gelding travelled comfortably behind the leaders during the race and when placed under pressure upon entering the home straight failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of CORNWALL PARK revealed the gelding to have a poor recovery rate.
L. Cassidy was provided with the opportunity of explaining the performance of ANCHOR BOLT. L. Cassidy explained that when travelling comfortably he elected to shift three wide to the outside of MR SLICK near the 500m and from that point ANCHOR BOLT did not quicken under his riding and was disappointing.
Race 4: SALT DESIGN 0MW H’CAP - 1010m
1st – Double Image 2nd – Red Raiders 3rd – Bruleur 4th – Jopa
DOUBLE IMAGE (T. Bell) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers during its preliminary and as a result the start was delayed.
EXPLORE THE WORLD (N. Thomas) and DOUBLE IMAGE made contact at the start. EXPLORE THE WORLD then shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of HUSSMINDA (B. Stewart).
SEVENTH HEART (R. Goltz) was a little slow to begin.
EXTRA EXCELERATION (A. Allen) raced three wide without cover throughout.
EXPLORE THE WORLD also raced three wide throughout.
Approaching and passing the 200m JOPA (P. Hammersley) was held up when unable to obtain clear running.
After passing the winning post JOPA made the crossing near the 1600m awkwardly and fell. P. Hammersley was examined by the Club doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements. A post-race veterinary examination of JOPA revealed no significant findings.
Race 5: CLUB SUPER QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1010m
1st – Saraji 2nd – Spinhro 3rd – Seiyo 4th – Publican
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer M. Webb regarding the declaration of A. Best as the rider of EMBELLISH. N. Tomizawa was subsequently substituted as the rider of EMBELLISH.
After being loaded into the barriers PUBLICAN (J. Byrne) became fractious and as a result was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race.
Connections advised that from the wide barrier MR FAVULOUS (A. Butler) would be ridden back in the field with cover if possible. The horse settled in a midfield position after being caught wide.
ROYAL SHOUT (L. Cassidy) began awkwardly.
On jumping away EMBELLISH (N. Tomizawa) had to be checked when tightened between SPINHRO (M. Gray) and SEIYO (S. Galloway), which was taken out by SOUNDS OF CRYSTAL (S. Seamer).
MILITARY GRACE (G. Colless) was eased at the start.
BONNY THE VIPER (M. Hellyer), MR FAVULOUS, ROYAL SHOUT and IN A STORM (Matthew Palmer) all raced wide throughout.
S. Seamer, the rider of SOUNDS OF CRYSTAL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of ROYAL SHOUT, which was taken outwards, resulting in IN A STORM and BONNY THE VIPER being tightened and BONNY THE VIPER having to be checked. S. Seamer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Tuesday, 8 November, and expire following the Ipswich day meeting on Friday, 18 November 2011.
N. Tomizawa, the rider of EMBELLISH, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 50m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of MILITARY GRACE, resulting in MILITARY GRACE being taken across the rightful runing of SOUNDS OF CRYSTAL, which had to be checked. N. Tomizawa’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 5 November, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 16 November 2011.
When questioned regarding the performance of MILITARY GRACE, G. Colless advised that it was always the intention, from the wide barrier, to go back at the start as it was considered that to progress forward could result in the horse being caught wide. He added that as the horse was having its first start from a spell the intention was to hold the filly up for as long as possible until entering the straight. G. Colless further stated that he considered taking a run to the inside of SPINHRO approaching the 300m, however he had to alter course when that horse commenced to shift ground. He further added that in his opinion MILITARY GRACE did not finish the race off as expected.
Race 6: SIMON GEORGE AND SONS C,G&E CLASS 6 PLATE - 1200m
1st – Havatryst 2nd – Sway To Go 3rd – Danagaze 4th – Carry Me Bluey
Upon arrival at the barriers rider P. Schmidt requested the veterinary surgeon to inspect DULBYDILLA. After inspection the gelding was cleared to race. Following the race apprentice P. Schmidt reported that DULBYDILLA did not feel comfortable in its action during the race and a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer J. Thomas was advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the horse racing again.
TIGHTROPE, which kicked out in the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to be lame in the near hind leg and to have a laceration to the nearside hock. On the advice of the veterinary surgeon TIGHTROPE was declared a late scratching at 3.16 p.m. Trainer J. Fitzgerald was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced before the horse again races. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on TIGHTROPE be refunded, with the following deductions to betting to apply:
5 cents in the dollar for the win - HAVATRYST
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner - HAVATRYST
9 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - SWAY TO GO
10 cents in the dollar for 3rd place - DANAGAZE
ROCK HOME LATE (B. Stewart) and HAVATRYST (J. Byrne) made contact on jumping away.
CARRY ME BLUEY (K. Banks) was slow to begin.
After passing the 800m RELEASE ME (Matthew Palmer) commenced to hang out and near the 700m had to be restrained from the heels of HAVATRYST. RELEASE ME continued to hang out badly in the middle stages. Trainer S. Andrew was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners.
BOOTOOLOO (P. Hammersley) was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.
Over the concluding stages BOOTOOLOO shifted in and brushed ROCK HOME LATE.
Race 7: QLD REEF AND BEEF F&M CLASS 6 PLATE - 1200m
1st – Skating On Ice 2nd - Liesele 3rd – Just Destiny 4th – Just Been Lucky
LIESELE (L. Cassidy) laid in at a point leaving the 800m.
JUST BEEN LUCKY (T. Bell), LIESELE and FIRE UP FIFI (P. Hammersley) all raced wide throughout.
IN A TANGLE (J. Byrne) had a tendency to lay out in the middle stages of the event and approaching the 700m bumped SEA MARVISTA (M. Hellyer).
In the early part of the straight HULL CITY (D. Browne) had difficulty obtaining clear running and passing the 200m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of the tiring SEA MARVISTA.
When asked to explain the performance of TAFEER, R. McMahon stated that the mare was backing up within 7 days of racing over 1350m and the shorter distance of today’s race did not suit the mare. He added that TAFEER did not finish the race off as expected when placed under pressure from the 400m. Trainer K. Schweida advised that he would now freshen the horse up.
Race 8: ‘PERFECT ITALIANO’ OPEN H’CAP - 1350m
1st – Fillydelphia 2nd – Prost 3rd – G’day Old Mate 4th – Fangles
INTERTHEBLACK (B. Looker) was slow to begin.
G’DAY OLD MATE (J. Taylor) overraced in the early stages.
OTTO'S DELIGHT (A. Taylor) raced three wide throughout.
When the pace steadied near the 700m FILLYDELPHIA (J. Byrne) shifted out from the heels of FANGLES (L. Rolls) and bumped PROST (T. Bell).
INTERTHEBLACK shifted out around the heels of POOR JUDGE (A. Butler) passing the 600m which resulted in ROYAL REIGN (S. Seamer) and OTTO'S DELIGHT being taken wider on the track.
Approaching the 300m HUMMA (D. Browne) shifted out and bumped the hind quarters of POOR JUDGE.
Approaching the 100m POOR JUDGE shifted out under pressure and made heavy contact with INTERTHEBLACK, which shifted in slightly, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
Over the concluding stages SHEEDY (E. Wilkinson) shifted in slightly under pressure and bumped SECRETS UNTOLD (L. Cassidy).
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice A. Butler regarding the performance of POOR JUDGE. A. Butler stated that the gelding travelled comfortably and after being bumped by HUMMA in the early part of the straight, POOR JUDGE was immediately under pressure and did not finish the race off from that point. A. Butler added that in his view POOR JUDGE may be better suited when ridden by a senior rider. A post-race veterinary examination of POOR JUDGE revealed no significant findings.
