SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From ITC meeting, 3.2.12, Race 9.

Trainer R. Heathcote advised that DIAMOND HEIST underwent a veterinary examination after returning to his stables and was found to be sore in both forelegs. He added that DIAMOND HEIST would now be treated and would have a short let up from racing.

Race 1: Skyracing.TV QTIS 2-Year-Old H'cap - 1110m
1st – Doubtfilly 2nd – Optionality 3rd – Wonderful Jester 4th – Ain’t She Sweet

DOUBTFILLY (J. Byrne) was tightened for room on jumping away between INFAMOUS (C. Munce) and AIN’T SHE SWEET (J. Brown), both of which shifted ground.

ACCIDENTAL (G. Colless) and WONDERFUL JESTER (T. Bell) jumped away awkwardly.

When the pace steadied leaving the 800m, ACCIDENTAL improved up on to the heels of WONDERFUL JESTER and when being restrained shifted out. DOUBTFILLY and AIN’T SHE SWEET, which were trailing, had to be restrained from the heels of ACCIDENTAL as a consequence. ACCIDENTAL raced ungenerously for a short distance thereafter.

ACCIDENTAL and DOUBTFILLY raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of INFAMOUS revealed the horse to be sore in both forelegs. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for INFAMOUS prior to its next race start.

Race 2: Sequalo@Lyndhurst Mares Class 6 Plate – 1110m
1st – Around The World 2nd – Al Faher 3rd – Felony Flight 4th - Zamboni

Connections advised that jockey N. Yamada has been instructed to ride AROUND THE WORLD with cover if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Trainer B. Dais was reprimanded for failing to declare a rider for BEGGIN by the prescribed time. In considering penalty, stewards took into account Mr Dais’s exemplary record regarding declaration of jockeys.

ZAMBONI (B. Richardson) and RAISE UP (R. McMahon) bumped on jumping away.

A short distance after the start, RAISE UP then made contact with NOROCOS (C. Munce).

Near the 800m, NOROCOS, RAISE UP and ZAMBONI were all forced to race in restricted room to the inside of FELONY FLIGHT (J. Bowditch), which shifted in. J. Bowditch, rider of FELONY FLIGHT, was advised to exercise more more care in future. When J. Bowditch corrected FELONY FLIGHT, it then shifted out slightly, resulting in SNIPPETS SECRET (L. Cassidy) and BEGGIN (A. Allen) being tightened for room between FELONY FLIGHT and FALVELINA (S. Bogenhuber). In this incident, FALVELINA became unbalanced.

FALVELINA and SNIPPETS SECRET and BEGGIN (A Allen) raced wide throughout.

G. Colless, rider of DEVILS MELODY, reported that he was able to secure a nice position in the early stages trailing RAISE UP and his mount travelled well, however after shifting to the outside of RAISE UP he was disappointed for a run near the 200m between SNIPPETS SECRET and BEGGIN when that runner shifted in. G. Colless advised he was forced to take hold of his mount at this point.

Both B. Looker, rider of AL FAHER, and N. Yamada, rider of AROUND THE WORLD, were issued with reprimands for permitting their mounts to shift ground over the concluding stages, which resulted in ZAMBONI being tightened for room momentarily.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of RAISE UP, R. McMahon stated that the mare travelled comfortably in a trailing position in the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure from the 500m, RAISE UP did not quicken as he expected and was disappointing in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of RAISE UP failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 3: Mitty’s Class 6 Plate – 2040m
1st – Rare Subject 2nd – Bang On 3rd – Contract Caterer 4th – Break The Ice

Trainer R. Heathcote was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for MARKED by the prescribed time.

Trainer D. Kelly was fined $200 for failing to declare a rider for BUGSYTWOSHOES by the prescribed time.

Trainer R. Heathcote advised that MARKED would be ridden further back in the field from the wide barrier if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

MAN FROM OZ (J. Taylor) overraced and refused to settle in the early stages.

Near the 700m, BUGSYTWOSHOES (B. Wallace) improved up on to the heels of HANDSOME (E. Wilkinson) and had to be steadied.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey P. Hammersley for the performance of SATCH. P. Hammersley stated that SATCH travelled quite well in running, however when the field sprinted passing the 600m, the horse failed to accelerate and proved disappointing. P. Hammersley added that SATCH had performed in a similar fashion when handicapped up in the weights in the past. A post-race veterinary examination of SATCH revealed the horse had been galloped on on the off hind leg.

J. Taylor, rider of MAN FROM OZ, which performed below expectations, reported that the horse was obliged to do some work from its wide barrier to take up a position outside the leader, however after doing so settled during the middle stages and travelled well. He added that he placed his mount under pressure leaving the 600m to take closer order, however over the final 300m MAN FROM OZ commenced to tire badly and, in his opinion, proved disappointing.

S. Galloway, rider of GOLD SHEARS, was provided with the opportunity of explaining the performance of that mare. S. Galloway stated that GOLD SHEARS settled towards the rear of the field which is its customary racing pattern, and although it was not suited to the slow tempo in the middle stages it was disappointing when it failed to respond to his riding from the 400m and, in his opinion, it may have come to the end of its current racing preparation. Trainer B Baldwin informed stewards he was disapointed with the performance of GOLD SHEARS and that he would now send the horse for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of GOLD SHEARS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 4: Sky International Benchmark 90 H'cap – 1640m
1st – Lucky Luna 2nd – Diago 3rd – Onetimeatbandcamp 4th - Narcelo

As G. Colless was to be overweight on DIAGO, E. Wilkinson was substituted as the rider of that horse. G. Colless was fined $200.

Trainer B. Laming advised that subsequent to its last start, OUR RECIDIVIST had received corrective shoeing and has worked well leading into today’s event.

DIAGO (E. Wilkinson) was slow to begin.

DIAGO hung out under pressure in the home straight.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding the tactics employed on KUMALI, particularly as it appeared he placed pressure on the leader ROCKDALE going into the back straight. C. Munce stated that he was hopeful of gaining a position one-out-and-one back behind PREACHER BOY and ROCKDALE, however after PREACHER BOY missed away, he was trapped wide to the outside of that horse approaching the first turn. He added that when PREACHER BOY did not progress forward he was forced to place pressure on his own mount to clear that horse and gain a position closer to the rail. C. Munce added that after doing so, KUMALI overraced and was reluctant to settle and as a result progressed to the outside of the leader ROCKDALE. He added that KUMALI did not settle for him thereafter and as a result failed to finish the race off. The explanation was accepted.

Stewards also sought an explanation from S. Bogenhuber regarding the tactics employed on PREACHER BOY, in particular why she did not allow her mount to stride forward rounding the first turn when there appeared to be an opportunity to take a position one off to the outside of the leader ROCKDALE. S. Bogenhuber stated that she was instructed to ride the horse in a forward position and after being slow to begin, she rode with some vigour to comply with those instructions. She added that approaching the first turn when trapped 3 wide she believed ther was an opportunity to take up a position one off the fence as she believed that ONETIMEATBANDCAMP would be able to progress to the fence behind the leader ROCKDALE. After veiwing the stewards’ patrol film, jockey Bogenhuber conceded that ONETIMEATBANDCAMP was unable to shift to the rail at that time as NARCELO was racing back to the inside of that runner. This resulted in her being forced to race 3 wide throughout. Stewards were also concerned with the reason that S. Bogenhumber shifted wider on the track from the 500m, which allowed ONETIMEATBANDCAMP and LUCKY LUNA (M. McGuren) to improve to her inside rounding the home turn. S. Bogenhuber stated that PREACHER BOY was weakening at that stage but acknowledged she should have made a greater effort to prevent the gelding from shifting ground. Stewards advised S. Bogenhuber that it would have been a better option to allow PREACHER BOY to stride forward rounding the first turn to the outside of ROCKDALE rather than allowing KUMALI to cross her mount. In all the circumstances, stewards informed jockey Bogenhuber that in their view she had ridden a poorly judged race but one that was not actionable under the rules.

Race 5: Channel Seven F&M NMW H'cap - 1350m
1st – Savage River 2nd – Product 3rd – Our Hussey 4th - Granzella

SAVAGE RIVER (K. Wharton) was held up rounding the home turn

Approaching the 200m, WITHDRU and STARLIT ANGEL (B. Wallace) became unbalanced after STARLIT ANGEL shifted in and made contact with the shoulder of WITHDRU (J. Brown), which had secured running to the inside of STARLIT ANGEL.

LADY AGULHAS (S. Galloway) was unable to secure clear running at any time in the home straight and was forced to race in restricted room and had to be steadied approaching and passing the 100m when racing between TYCOON’S HEART (L. Rolls) and LITTLE ANTICS (A. Allen), which shifted in and away from RHAPSODIC (L. Finlay).

GEBLITZ (J. Byrne), COUNT YOUR FINGERS (T. Bell) and DRIVING REIGN (G. Killen) raced wide throughout.

TYCOON’S HEART lost its near hind plate in running.

Race 6: Drumbeats@Lyndhurst CG&E NMW H'cap - 1350m
1st – The Ringmaster 2nd – Beautiful Timing 3rd – Igles Star 4th – Trombone Alley

RED STORY (M. Wood) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

B. Stewart, rider of TROMBONE ALLEY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in shortly after the start when insufficiently clear of HEARTSUN (T. Bell), resulting in T. Bell, rider of HEARTSUN, having to take hold of his mount to avoid the heels of TROMBONE ALLEY. B. Stewart was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 5 February, and to expire at mignight, 15 February.

For some distance leaving the 1100m, HEARTSUN raced fiercely at the heels of SKATER DUDE (S. Galloway).

When the pace steadied near the 700m, SKATER DUDE had to be steadied from the heels of MANICERO (R. McMahon). HEARTSUN, which was following, also had to be steadied as a consequence. A short distance later, HEARTSUN again had to be steadied after improving on to the heels of SKATER DUDE.

B. Richardson restrained TELESTO WARRIOR in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the fence.

IRISHKIWI (E. Wilkinson) and PEGUNNY CAT (C. Munce) raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of IRISH KIWI failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 7: Racing Retro QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1110m
1st – Leealan 2nd – Amber’s Crown 3rd – Well Credentialled 4th – Bounding Along

Connecstions advised MR FALVULOUS would be ridden with cover if possible from the wide barrier. The horse was ridden accordingly.

EMMALENE (B. Richardson) was slow to begin.

OUTBACK LEGEND (J. Brown) and BOUNDIN ALONG (M. Wood) made contact on jumping away.

EASY SUCCESSFUL (J. Byrne) jumped inwards at the start and made contact with AMBER’S CROWN (R. Wiggins).

A short distance after the start, MISS STASH (R. Goltz) and BELLE D’AMOUR (C. Munce) came together.

For a short distance after passing the 800m, AMBER’S CROWN raced fiercely at the heels of LEEALAN (A. Allen).

JUDY’S JOY (L. Cassidy) was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

EMMALENE (B. Richardson) was held up for clear running until passing the 200m, at which stage EMMALENE shifted out, inconveniencing EASY SUCCESSFUL. B. Richardson, rider of EMMALENE, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future.

Over the concluding stages, GOLDEN TRINKETS (J. Taylor) and OUTBACK LEGEND (J. Brown) made contact when tiring.

Both A. Allen, rider of LEEALAN, and R. Wiggins, rider of AMBER’S CROWN, were reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten their mounts when shifting out over the concluding stages.

BELLE D’AMOUR, KAHUI (B. Looker) and MR FAVULOUS (J. Kropp) raced wide for the majority of the event.

L. Cassidy reported that from its wide barrier, JUDY’S JOY settled further back in the field than he anticipated when unable to gain a positin closer to the fence just behind the speed. He added that JUDY’S JOY was held up approaching and rounding the home turn but finished the race off well.

Race 8: Woolworths Open H'cap - 1200m
1st – Havatryst 2nd – The Sixties 3rd – Fangles 4th – Poor Judge

A short distance after the start, ANYWAYS (B. Looker) had to be steadied from the heels of REILLY BLUE (R. McMahon), which shifted out.

D. Browne reported that PAPRIKA raced fierecely when racing wide and he therefore elected to allow the mare to stride forward to the lead.

Near the 800, HAVATRYST (L. Cassidy) shifted in, momenarily tightening the running of REILLY BLUE (R. McMahon). L. Cassidy, rider of HAVATRYST, was advised to exercise more care. A short distance later when the speed slackened, REGAL CASTANEA (T. Bell) got its head up when being restrained from the heels of FANGLES (L. Rolls). ANYWAYS (B. Looker), which was trailing also had to be steadied as a consequence.

Race 9: Blackwoods E&G Class 6 Plate - 1110m
1st – Thefifthhole 2nd – De Bois 3rd – Come Said The Boy 4th – Rock Home

HAMDEN (P. Hammersley) and KNOX (J. Taylor) were tightened for room a short distance after the start between THEFIFTHHOLE (L. Cassidy) and OUTCROP (M. Hellyer), which shifted out.

A short distance after the start, RUMOUR AND SCANDAL (T. Bell) commenced to buck. Trainer J. Thompson will be interviewed regarding this matter in the following days.

For some distance inside the 300m, KNOX (J. Taylor) was severely crowded for room between OUTCROP (M. Hellyer), which shifted out slightly, and CYCLONE BRAD (J. Byrne), which was taken in by COME SAID THE BOY (D. Browne) which, when hanging in, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

CYCONE BRAD (J. Byrne), COME SAID THE BOY (D. Browne) and RUMOUR AND SCANDAL (T. Bell) raced wide throughout.

CYCLONE BRAD hung out in the middle stages. After hearing submissions from trainer B. Bellamy, a warning was placed on the horse.

Jockey J. Taylor and stable representative Mr E. Petrie were provided with the opportunity of explaining the seemingly disappointing performance of KNOX. J. Taylor stated that the horse only travelled fairly and was under pressure after passing the 600m. J. Taylor added that KNOX may not have handled the sharp step up in class and also not appreciated the prevailing track conditions. Mr Petrie informed stewards that whilst the horse had performed well on rain affected surfaces in the past, that was in lesser grades than that of today’s race, and he also felt that the month between runs may have had an effect on the horse’s capacity to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination of KNOX failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Jockey P. Hammersley reported that HAMDEN did not have the necessary speed to take up a forward position and in the middle stages did not feel comfortable in the prevailing conditions and did not finish the race off as expected. A post-race veterinary examination of HAMDEN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

OUTCROP lost its near fore plate in running.
